Driveclub director - 1080p/30FPS is absolutely the best for our game

? Sorry, couldn't understand. I'm sad because I like 60fps on racers. That's the reason that I didn't buy Burnout Paradise on consoles, stopped playing NFS:Pro Street after some 30fps lock patch (old facts, I know) and didn't even got close to NFS:Rivals. Even arcade racing games could benefit from 60fps.
Wipeout 2048 being 30fps makes me sad.
Then you fucked up.

All the shit forza gets for its cardboard cutout crowds (which no one sees unless you use the fantastic inbuilt recording/screen tools), but at least they managed to deliver 60 fps racing.

Makes me wonder if the next forza will amp up the track details and tone down the fps.

Horizon will be 30 FPS I'm betting.

I'll try the Plus version before making my decision. 30fps isn't a dealbreaker for me but was hoping that after a year's delay they'd be able to hit 60.

30fps racers can be fine as long as the controls are responsive and the sense of speed is intact.

Not planning on getting a PS4 for this game, but I would not be worried about this if I was. One of the greatest racing games I have ever played is 30 FPS - Forza Horizon.

At the end of the day, this is still arcade game...

Shouldn't that be a good reason for it to be 60fps?

I mean, back in the days most (if not all) racing games in arcades were 60fps. Why is it fine for arcade games to be 30fps now while arcades were practically the definition of 60fps fast paced action?

That said, this game is designed around 30fps and I'm sure it will play just fine. The argument that it's ok because it's an arcade game is a little strange to me, though.

Good. This means that the game is gonna look better and better. I just hope they have 30fps on lock. And maybe some cool post-processing. I think minds will be blown if we ever get direct feed footage again.

Not a problem, so long as they've implemented the same motion blur that was used on PGR and Horizon, I won't even notice it's not 60fps.

Seriously, those two games have some amazing motion blur.

Next Forza will most likely be 30 FPS (Horizon 2). But it's also an open-world racer which Driveclub is not. I'm torn on this one. I'd much rather have 60 fps than pretty graphics.

Bummer. Could still be fun though, I loved Motorstorm, but at the end of the day 60fps is still king for racing games in my opinion. No day 1 for me but I'll definitely check out the PS+ version.

Horizon? Sure. Forza 6? No way man.

There's something I don't really understand... that "logic" which implies that it's no problem for an arcade racer to be 30FPS. I mean, Aren't arcade racers supposed to be fast games ? Then you would want a fast game to have 60FPS !

So be it. If the game delivers on the vision and is genuinely gorgeous I can live with it. It's hardly the first arcade racer at 30FPS, right?

Why would anyone preorder when free PS+ game package will be delivered to anyone who pays for that [great] service?

Well, we're still not quite sure of the extent of that product, so we'll have to see about that. And, for that matter, I would like them to restate that it exists, because things have been a bit quiet on that front since they announced it last E3.

Mildly disappointed. Not massively so, but prioritising fidelity over framerate is not my preference.

I personally disagree with their decision, especially given the type of racer this is, but it's their call to make.

At least it will look good.

Mandatory Shahid Kamal Ahmad quote.

Well, I played lots of 30FPS racers and enjoyed most of them.

The "in-engine" trailer was cool and all, but can we get some unedited race gameplay please? Something that features the HUD, AI, various camera angles, etc. would be appreciated.

For a sim racer yeah. But for an arcade racer that will be attempting to reach a much broader audience I'd say flashier graphics might be more beneficial.

Wouldn't flashier graphics be more beneficial for a sim racer considering sim racers go for visual flair/accuracy

What's with this idea of 30fps being fine for an arcade racer? Is this some new thing or something, because all of my arcade/kart racers I play are 60.

They've restated it in yesterday's reveal, and again in the PS Blog update.
PS+ Edition will be there day one.

So I'm guessing all the users in here who are upset about 30fps will not buy most of the racers this gen?

Most probably, I already did that with Rivals. Racing games to me are one of the only genres that I only play on 60fps, other genres I can settle for less.

30 fps worked perfectly well with Project Gotham Racing's gameplay, and Driveclub's is pretty much in the same ballpark mix of realistic/arcade handling.
I'm fine with 30 fps as long as there are no slowdowns ever, of course.

"Arcade" racer? Since when was this an "arcade" racer? It looks waaaay to realism-based to qualify for that to me.

Yeah, I'd put this is the Semi-sim category with the likes of PGR or Test Drive

With as much lavish praise given to games like PGR or Forza Horizon, I'd hope people would reserve their utter disgust, but oh well.

This is a good thing, it makes it clear that its a completely different approach from GT.

Now we have to different franchises:
DriveClub - with 30fps, fictional tracks, more arcady gameplay, eye candy.
GT - 60fps, sim, real world circuits, larger number of cars, etc.

I'm disappointed but no where near disappointed enough not to want to grab this on release day. Those videos are gorgeous.
