Dark souls is BEYOND goated

It STARTED an entire sub genre. If not out right genre.

The interconnected world. The amazingly cheese dialogue that's better than any movie could dream to be. The way you can goto ANY area from game on, regardless if you should be there.

The way you're rewarded for paying attention and reading lore.

Those moments like… taking the elevator down from the church, only to see firelink and going WTF BRO. HOW AMAZING.

Games, not even souls games, do it remotely like DS1 this way. It's absolutely goated in every way possible.

I agree except Bed of Chaos boss.....

Fuck this boss, it WORST puzzle boss I ever experienced.....and FROM knew this thats why its only boss which has checkpoint.
It's super duper easy to me. Now at least. Yeah. It will 100% take me 2 tries minimum. 3-5 maximum. But it's not difficult. I learned How to avoid that sweeping giant hand.

It's def a shit boss though. Agreed. But the run back is peanuts and many fault the run back. Like what? It's legit 20 seconds

Yeah once you know the solution its easy but doesn't change the fact its badly designed boss.

Tough choice for me between Demon's and Dark Souls 1. I like gimmick bosses more than endless rollspam R1 R1 R1 that the series later became. Dark Souls 1 has the best map until the last 1/5 of the game, Demon's Souls (PS3) had the best atmosphere, maybe of any game ever.

IMO they focused too much on bullshit boss fights instead of unforgiving exploration that encouraged preparation and caution as the series went on.

Elden Ring is also fantastic, incredible build diversity and a ton of interesting locations, but I'd have to give it to either Demon's (PS3) or Dark Souls. If Dark Souls' endgame wasn't kinda shit, it would probably be the clear victor.

People always make fun of Dark Souls 2 (like here in the poll) but I thought it was a much better game than Dark Souls 3 (which is the weakest in the souls series to me).
Gameplay wise my favorite is 2, but overall Dark Souls 1 is the one I prefered, especially the first half. I haven't played bloodborne or elden ring though.

I'm beyond grateful we have Elden Ring. But to me that just feels like the "new hotness" that INTRODUCED many to the genre.

DS1 is where the vets come to really play

We could be besties. DS2 is ABSOLUTELY amazing. Majula. Best hub in ALL of souls. The whole genre.

It does some amazing things. It's far too hated on and frankly, just seeing the community and such, it's quickly becoming a cult fav of the series.

Agreed. But I no Longer dread it. Not even almost. It's just "ok. Bed of chaos time." And that's about it. Again still no idea why ANYONE bitches on run back to it
I think because there is bonefire but its much closer but its hidden behind hidden wall, which kind of make people frustrated.

I discovered it AFTER beating the boss and I was like.....

Elden Ring and it's not even close. Most of them control like ass and Elden Ring not only fixed that, it made the world and exploring it much more interesting, varied, and free. It also had greater flexibility in your builds than ever before. I tried to get into Dark Souls but it was always more interested in being a pain in the ass than having good design. Elden Ring finally felt like they gave a shit about making an experience challenging and good, not just challenging in lieu of being good.

With NO checkpoint and NO hidden bonfire. Could I beat it? Shit I'm not sure lol 😂 it would genuinely have ruined it all for me if we didn't have those things

I'm weird or maybe just biased. I LIKE those areas. A) they're easy AF. B) we get the whole sun bro saga ending
I don't particularly hate them. Neither is too long, and at least parts of the Demon Ruins are well-made. Still, in terms of level complexity and intricacies, they don't come anywhere near the rest of the game. Sen's Fortress, Anor Londo, Undeard Burg, and even the often maligned Duke's Archives are much better designed. Tomb of The Giants, maybe not, but I like the gimmick and that you can see the Demon Ruins from them.

Elden Ring is an interesting case. The legacy dungeons are some of the best in the series. I think Leyndell might straight-up be From's magnum opus, topping even Anor Londo in Dark Souls, but the initially engrossing open world just becomes a chore and copy/pasted bullshit once you reach Mountaintops of the Giants. It's so good at first with Limgrave. The sheer scale, the freedom, the danger and suspense all make the opening act unlike any other open world game...and then you realize it never really gets better lol.

Kinda hit the nail on the head really. Both cases. Elden Ring. Yes. Amazing. Far overrated. Felt it basically just thought in the REST of the peeps who skipped souls games.

Demon Souls has my favorite level in the Tower of Latria and a lot of Dark Souls world is my favorite level design in the series, but Bloodborne is FromSoftware's most consistent title from beginning to end and has the right mix of their old/new combat design. Even with it's limitations in build diversity, it's my favorite Souls game.

We had the same poll last year and Bloodborne ran away with it comfortably. Interesting to see that it's lagging behind even Demon's Souls in this one. Need more votes though, The previous poll had almost 400 votes. This one is at just 158.

Take your lol off. Dark Souls 2 s a great game.

I think all the Souls games are great in their own right. DS2 wouldn't be in my top three, but I'd certainly rank it above DS3 (which kind of felt like a greatest hits album) or Elden Ring (too much recycled content and fell into the same trap most open world games do in that it's afraid to have empty spaces, not to mention making bosses a bit over the top in the name of difficulty).

Get him, Danjin44 Danjin44 ! He also thinks the Xenoblade games are terrible and that Vanillaware games are for weebs.

I like Sekiro, but it's on the lower end of my list.

I'd rank Dark Souls III as my favorite in the trilogy. The music, enemy/boss designs, and the way each area felt. I love Dark Souls for the way it flowed together. The bosses are some of the most memorable bosses to date. Dark Souls II has some amazing locations but you have to go through a few not so fun areas and good luck finding all the bonfires if you haven't played it before! Places like Dragon Arie, Grave of Saints, and several other places really stood out in DSII. Some areas place it under 2 and 3 for me. But I do try and replay them every couple years. Bloodborne is probably my favorite because it feels so well done. The locations and enemies fit so perfectly in the world. I'd probably put Elden Ring right under Bloodborne.

This is hard cause you've got an entire trilogy to consider and then the games that came out around that trilogy. I can't just say "Favorite From Software game". There's a lot to that answer.

I'm erasing you from secret Santa for this take.

DS1 is probably the most overrated as it's where all the Johnny-come-latelys jumped on the bandwagon. The last 3rd of it is terrible and playing it today, it certainly shows its' age as far as combat and boss encounters are concerned.

To me NONE of FROM game is "overrated" all them have their strong points and weak points.

For example Bloodborne has weak ass magic system but it also has most fun melee weapons in entire Souls series.
