Driveclub director - 1080p/30FPS is absolutely the best for our game

It's funny how Wii U fans praised two 30fps racers (Sonic Transformed, NFS MWU) before Mario Kart and now 30fps is an unplayable slideshow for racers

This is total bullshit and you know it. Nintendo fans have been praising Nintendo for making most of its franchises run at 60 FPS to ensure the best gameplay for over 20 years.
 
Why can't they get this right:
Q: Can I get my racing game to output 60 fps?
If the answer is "yes", then good on ya.
If the answer is "no", then make adjustments until 60 fps is viable.

Smooth framerate takes precedence over global illumination or whatever the hell it is in a racer.

Hype gone.
 
What, people really choose 1080p over 60FPS?
I'm not cool with that. I'd rather have 900p and 30FPS than 1080p and 30FPS

This was not the tradeoff here.
It's 1080p / 30FPS and goddamn incredible visuals
or
1080p / 60FPS with some severe downgrades to the visual fidelity they wanted to achieve.

I'm glad they are sticking to their vision.
 
Good enough for me as long as the frame rate is solid. All I'm hoping for now is the game controls well and doesn't have evolution's bullshit rubberband AI.

Can't wait to see more. This thread, and any other Driveclub thread will instantly go to shit though with frame rate talk, unfortunately. But this thread is about frame rate though, so i guess that is to be expected.

I played SART at 60fps. Like everyone else did on PC. The console versions of SART are shit.

Meanwhile nearly every fucking Nintendo game runs at 60. Mario Kart will be no different.

What point are you trying to make.
 
Will be an interesting to see how this works out, can't wait to try it, looks gorgeous. 30 FPS is not the end of the world, Forza Horizon was great with 30 FPS.
 
was pgr2 30fps? that's the best console arcade racer of all time, and if it can manage that feat with 30fps, then driveclub will be alright.

Yes but that was bizzare and thy were gods of gameplay. Who knows how this game will feel on the track, as that is ultimately what will make the game good. If it plays like pgr, forza or horizon I'm in.

It's funny reading all the back pedaling about 60fps. If forza 6 was announced at 30fps GAF would crash.
 
Why bother downloading it? This is a deal breaker for me. If people don't mind that's fine, I don't care.
Since it would theoretically cost you nothing to download it (Except bandwidth. Which shouldn't matter unless you're capped.) there's no deal to break for at least trying it. Saying/doing such a thing doesn't speak well for your openness if you won't even try it. But like you said, it's your decision and I don't care what you do enough to egg you on more<- not necessarily completely true.

They told me that I have the last-gen console but I don't see it.

Now this is just ridiculous.

Anyway, bring it. I hope GAF can form many clubs to make things even more interesting.

Like many already said, Horizon was 30 and was a fantastic game. I actually played a lot more of it than Forza 4 (but I played Forza 3 more than both put together).

Rock solid 30fps with amazing visuals > Inconsistent or so-so visuals at 60fps.

I have a gaming PC so I get both, but for consoles that's how I like it.
 
This is really terrible news. Racing games really need to be 60 fps. I wish they would stop with trying to force every game to be 1080p at the expense of fps.

Eh? How would framerate impact on that? You get packets when you get packets, at a latency likely to be significantly higher than even the 33ms/frame of 30fps. How is the game coded in a way such that framerate impacts network updates?
 
Eh, to be fair, arcade racers need 60FPS. Maybe more than simulations.

I disagree, if the arcade game is built from the ground up for 30fps, then there is no [much] point demanding 60.

Sim games on the other hand... can easily become very hardcore. In a few days I will take a part in a organized pCARS race that lasts 1 hour. That's 1 hour wrestling with strong FF wheel (G27), on a complicated track with car that can easily slide off. Let's hope there will be no performance problems on my old PC.

Project cars was announced 1080p / 30 on both xb1 and ps4 last week.

Where did you dig that up? Officially they did not mention framerate in that reveal.

Are the visuals really considered to be the most important part of a racing game these days? How many frames of input lag are people willing to eat over that?
 
Then when GT7 is shown it'll look better while being 1080p/60fps with more cars on the track.

Man Polyphony has some extreme pressure upon them right now...i don't envy them.Really hope they have the technical power to take on the challenge of 1080p/60fps without sacrificing the visual density of the game.

No but really find me a post saying that it's okay that Sonic Transformed and NFS MWU run at 30FPS on Wii U. Except that you won't because you're full of shit. Even if you did it would be just some extra delusional Nintendo fan and it wouldn't count anyway because 30FPS is objectively shit for fast paced games like the one this topic is about and Sonic and NFS.
