PlayStation Blog Hands-on with Borderlands 2 PS Vita

While PS+ is a great service and saves consumers a great deal of money, I can't help but feel that there are hidden detrimental ramifications.

If everyone with PS+ hesitated on games released (Until they're on PS+), surely developers would stop making games for said PS systems?

I would prefer that not to happen, as I really do like my PS4/Vita systems. I try to buy games to encourage myself to try new experiences, while hoping that $ spent, encourages developers to continue creating those experiences, on said systems.

It's more about the notoriety your game gets being on PS+, than the actual money. Take Resogun, for example. I'd never heard of Housemarque before their game came out on Plus, now when their next game comes out, I'll remember what I played before and be interested in it. Same for Don't Starve and the incoming sequel.

I love Borderlands 2 (I think the 200+ hours I put into it on Xbox 360 proves that), and I really hope this version performs and controls well. Borderlands has the magical ability to turn hours into minutes for me, and I can't think of any other way I'd prefer to kill time on a long car/plane ride.

Excited as hell. I fly 5 hours a week and most portable games are a bore. I can play BL2 for hundreds of hours and have it stay fun.

I think the game looks great so far. Perhaps because I have realistic expectations.

Game looks fine, will look better on my Vita screen too.

so if you dont own the dlc on the ps3 version but buy the vita version does that mean the dlc will now be unlocked on the ps3 version? because I can't imagine cross-save working well otherwise.
Hopefully it does.

Oh, and good news for anyone who’s played the PS3 version for dozens of hours: you’ll be able to bring your save data from the PS3 version (standard or GOTY editions) of the game to your PS Vita, and vice versa. Just upload your save to the cloud when you are done playing on one device and pull it down when you want to play again. Cross-save, baby!

It just strikes me as a mismatch. Borderlands is best played co-operatively, but using 3G to play online will be laggy and use up all of your data, and playing on wifi defeats the point of an on-the-go gaming machine.

i tend to play my Vita at work in my breaks. something i can't really do with a home console. good games on a good handheld are a good match by default imo.

I'm buying it, simply because I play handhelds more than consoles. The pick up and play nature of handhelds appeals to me.

Quite easy to get in to a game and suspend it for later.

I haven't played this game yet, so even if it's a port - it'll be new for me.

Same for me. Looking forward to it

Back touchpad sprinting?

I'm out.
Game can look glorious, not using that system again. It fucking sucked in Killzone.

I liked it. It was annoying at first but it became second nature after a couple matches.

Eh, for someone who has been playing Borderlands 2 completely solo, I can deal with this.

I just pressed circle.

Screens look really bad. Everything seems really low res. The vending machines look all blurry and detail-less from. I played the PS3 version in splitscreen from start to finish and while it wasn't exactly a looker, it looked much better than this. Ouch!

It's now only 2 player online coop and only between Vita players too?

Plenty of people buy games like Wonderful 101 because they want to support a system and not necessarily because they're interested in it. I'd ask you to stop being so negative towards EVERYTHING but only rarely do people change their outlook on life.

He's not negative towards everything ;)

PS Vita less powerful than PS3 confirmed.

Going Commando on PS3, Axton is the best for soloing, with his turrets and all. Looking forward to trying Krieger and Gaige though and finally finishing all the side quests in the game.

That doesn't mean it has to look like that. They probably didn't have a huge budget to do a late port for a system with a low userbase . We saw many vita games looking much better than this.

The PS3 version already had slowdowns. Can't imagine how this version is going to perform in the long run.

Download the pics to your vita and view it there. It doesn't even look all that bad tbh.

I think I liked Roland a bit better, but then again, I did play BL1 with other people so maybe that's why I feel like I'm beasting my way through the game. Wilhelm was a piece of cake compared to solo Maya run in the 360. :S

The last thing I want to do is play a game "on the go" unless it's a shitty phone game, my Vita is my lights off in bed system.

I may, maayyy pick this up though thanks to it's cheap price.

I suspect it does need to look like that. Don't forget, we're talking about a two year old handheld here.

Personally, I think it looks pretty damned good.

I hope the sound is good. Fucked up we dont have any other gameplay videos/impressions. I hate that Sony does this with the Vita. If I'm proud of something, I wanna show it off.

I haven't played this before and have been really looking forward to it. I hope the framerate is decent. I can't handle another jak & daxter or ratchet vita.

Sounds good and the screens looks great, but I really need to see some footage from a later build.

The last released footage wasn't exactly great. Also hoping they've managed to reduce the load times from the near 30 seconds it took in earlier footage.

Missing the Tina expansion (and Hammerlock) and level is capped at 61. Not sure how the cross-save is even going to work. You'll be too high level on PS3 to transfer over to Vita if you own all the PS3 DLC because the level cap is higher than 61. And you'll be too high of a level on Vita to transfer over to PS3 if you don't own any PS3 DLC because then your level is capped at 50.

Really bizarre omissions of content on the Vita version that don't even make it possible to match your save files up unless you made very specific selections of purchased DLC on PS3. Seems like too many compromises all around to be worthwhile.

In other words, the cross-save is a useless feature because of the specific, cherry-picked DLC that the Vita version comes with that makes it unlikely to be able to successfully sync your characters properly.

Woot! Sign me up. I couldn't care less about the co-op, and remap controls sound perfect. I never got to far into Borderlands 1 on PS3 but Borderlands 2 sounded like a big improvement, by the time I was ready to play it the Vita version was announced so I've been holding out for that.

All the controls are fully re-mappable, it says in the article. I actually don't mind it, got used to it in Killzone, but if it bugs you just change it!

That's what I plan on doing. I am just going to remap controls that I don't use as much to the back touch screen. I don't tend to rely on throwing grenades and such in games so that will probably be one.

Those controls are giving me FFXIV:ARR PS4 beta PTSD flashbacks.

Eh... at least the controls for FF14 made sense on controllers for what they were doing.

I will NEVER get why they put sprint/melee/etc. on backtouch for shooters for the PSP2. It's horrible. WHY THE FUCK would anyone want a too-large back-touch control for something like movement or melee? Maybe if the backtouch didn't get in the way it wouldn't be as bad.

Most people can create a wireless hotspot with their cell phones/tablets on LTE but yes if you don't have unlimited data then that can cost you a lot.

Didnt colin moriarty say that the game sucked?

He did in his first review (badly enough that I think even I would notice the issues). He reviewed it again I believe after they had refined it. He still didn't like the controls (But honestly, some of that cannot be helped as Vita has less buttons than a console's controller and he admitted as such) but he said they did get it to run a lot better than the first iteration. His second review seemed to paint it as pretty decent (or at least enough that I know I probably won't notice too many issues but I do think I'm less picky than many people here) but with control issues.

I'm really tempted by this bundle to finally get a Vita, even if I don't know how interested I'd be to play Borderlands 2 again.

once again, view these natively on your Vita screen for best results :)

game looks great quite honestly

I second (third?) this. The distant stuff doesn't look so good but to be fair the draw distance in BL2 is huge, so that's no surprise. The close up stuff, like the screenshot with the pirates, looks great on the Vita.

For some reason it's impossible to see a bigger version of what seems to be the best looking screenshot without a Yahoo account

EDIT:
same for the others lol
