Creator’s Voice blog: Hidetaka Miyazaki on The Duskbloods

From was laughing stock until Dark Souls, people say Demon's Souls but that was relatively niche in the grand scheme of things. Dark Souls was their breakout hit, Elden Ring ascended them into the mainstream. Anyway, prior to Demon's Souls, they released clunky ass titles and were known as a C-tier developer, they're not immune. Anyone who partners up with Nintendo is writing their own death sentence, Platinum games is a prime example.
So only the last two decades?

It sounds like this game has been in development or pitched to Nintendo maybe 5+ years ago? It started as a Nintendo switch 1 game in the concept phase.

So people upset about his running out of new ideas are a bit off. This idea stemmed further back. His next title I imagine will have some more fresh ideas.

This year ERNR, next year DB, and the year after likely new armored core.

AC fans get hyped for 2027!!!

They should partner with Nintendo and make a mature Zelda spin-off.

Like the NES ones.

Or a LOTR game
This was my disappointment with the direct.
Tecmo should be doing a Sheik Team Ninja Gaiden type game not Koei Warriors trash, From Software a new dungeon based Zelda or a third person Metroid. Nintendo needs to bring more advanced takes on their key franchises.

Yea not my kind of Game , one special characteristic of souls games is the sence on lonelines on a savage world....this looks more like the child of Monster Hunter and Smash.

This clearly is not a Souls Game.

You mean Miyazaki fucking DIRECTED Dusk bloods.

Man, I think Nintendo might have scored the best 3rd part exclusive since Bloodborne. DAMN that's some fire.

If it was just some throwaway online game directed by an underling at a lower cost like Nightreign, it might not have moved the needle, but Bloodborne 2 directed by fucking Miyazaki...wow.

Did yall know Miyazaki directed this? This is actually a huge HUGE pro talking point for the game. Directed by one of the best game director of all time and definitely the best that is still in his prime. This game might surprise people if they think it is just another Nightreign. Nightreign is directed by Junya Ishizaki but Dusk Bloods, a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, is directed by Miyazaki. Fuuuuuuucccckkkkk. Yall people saying it's PVP or whatever, first that major damage control. All Souls games are PVPVE. Second I doubted Miyazaki before. I've learned my lesson. Obviously you have not. But you will. When this game comes out you will see a gulf of quality between it and its competitors. This man only makes masterpieces. He's the quentin tarantino of gaming. If you don't want it now, don't worry, you will. You are gonna have to buy a Switch 2 or suffer in obscurity.

I don't see this selling well...I don't think even Elden Ring can sell over 3 million on SW2. Maybe I'll be wrong about ER, but I'm willing to bet Duskbloods will flop.

For me, PvP/multiplayer stuff in Souls game was always a fun bonus, but I would never want to play a game where it's the focus.

As soon as I heard it's multiplayer only game my hype tanked and I lost interest in it

Good, it saved me 450$

Sure From has exclusively released all-time classics, but some people are absolutely sure THIS TIME will be when they release a dud. I swear it's for nothing to do with the $10 or Sony Bloodborn salt. I promise guys.
Their all time classics have mostly been single player with optional multiplayer. Nightreign and Duskbloods are multiplayer focused (even Nightreign you can play by yourself, but Duskbloods is 100% multiplayer).

Slap a close to $600 price tag on it (Switch 2, Duskbloods plus tax) and this time it probably will be a dud. Not because the game isn't fun, but because the barrier of entry is too high.

Ever heard of fatigue? No matter how good an artist or game designer is - if they are releasing games all the time (especially similar ones), they are destined to make a flop eventually.
This looks like a poor man's Bloodborne combined with Elden Ring, and some random weird shit.

I'm sure it'll be a great game, he's a fantastic director. I won't buy a switch 2, but I hope duskbloods is a success.

Armored Core V came out after Dark Souls.

Your loss, Duskbloods gonna be fire :messenger_fire::messenger_fire::messenger_fire:
It's interesting how you went from hyping it up as "totally bloodborne 2 lol Sony" to now hyping it up as a PvP game. In the end what the game is doesn't matter to you, as long as you get to hype it up for being exclusive.

It sounds to me like Miyazaki has given this a lot of thought and truly understands what fundamentally makes a good GaaS game, but with all the bells and whistles of a From Software title. There will be a lot of lore, story, and worldbuilding content baked into item customisation and character roles. The mention of events and objectives suggests possible seasonal content, while rewards and character customisation are designed to encourage the grind. This isn't a simple asset flip like Nightreign, it's a much larger project, with more maps and an entirely new game featuring fresh character and enemy designs. It definitely has a chance of being successful. Hopefully Nintendo's ass network infrastructure can handle it.

As a side note, please allow me to address one thing. As previously mentioned, this is an online multiplayer title at its core, but this doesn't mean that we as a company have decided to shift to a more multiplayer-focused direction with titles going forward.

"Online matches are generally last player standing, however there are certain cases where victory conditions differ. For example, players may be tasked with teaming up to take down a powerful boss enemy, or find themselves in other special circumstances."

Oh... Kinda like Exoprimal...

Ok GIF
I liked my playthrough of Exoprimal, but one of it's biggest faults was it's price. If Capcom had simply made it free to play with skins, it would still have a decent community size.

Fromsoft will at least have the benefit of having a fandom that buys anything they release, but I'm not sure how many casual buyers will want to spend 79.99 on this game after word of mouth spreads that it isn't Bloodborne 2 nor Elden Ring 2.

I think Nightreign will have longer legs due to it being able to be played solo (including being multiplatform).

Finally, FROM found a console platform that matches their lack of technical prowess, underpowered hardware + assets reuse up the arse + graphics straight out a 2015 PS4 game = match made in heaven.

I too agree that both Miyazaki and FROM have become creatively bankrupt - not that it matters since the myriad of fanboys will gobble this up as usual...

Man, I have the strangest relationship with this company, I LOVE most of their games but, their fucking laziness has gotten long in the tooth now - here's to another 15+ years of watching the same door opening with both hands animation, characters that speak with their mouths closed and textures from 10+ years ago !

Tech-wise they're 10 years behind.of the competition and if they don't switch things up, the time will come where the souls-like copycats are gonna be actually better than what they're putting out, bahhh...
