Why would people be up in arms over exclusivity? Isn't Studio Japan helping development? So... Sony... is helping development?

Am I missing something?

People often get upset at platform holders helping/funding development. It's all nonsense, of course.

I don't think From would've had any problems finding a publisher for this title, first or third party for that matter

But there's no guarantee they would get the level of funding that they wanted without going exclusive.

Lol at all the graphics whiners. You have no idea what the final specs will be, smh.

The graphics will be there, as they were with Demon's Souls. The art style itself of Demon's Souls is timeless, and if the same crew of talented individuals are working on this, I expect another masterpiece with superb art style.

To be fair, Bayonetta 2 was dropped by Sega due to lackluster interest. I don't think From would've had any problems finding a publisher for this title, first or third party for that matter

Sure, but that doesn't really matter as it could, in theory, be said for a lot of games that have existed throughout time across an assortment of platforms. Someone wanted this project made on both sides of the fence, the deal was made, and here we are.

Why does that matter? This game is being funded by Sony and it's only on Sony consoles. I didn't hear people get mad about Dead Rising 3 which could have been put on PC or PS4 as well.

guns? could be cool, dunno.

looks like ds2 pre-downgrade visually.

Yes because you can say this from screencaps from a video with probably 480p quality or less.

I mean just look at this shit, clearly a very bad video quality...

Looks like Demons Souls 2 as far as looks are concerned. The time doesn't matter - a more modern Demons/Dark Souls would be just as good (magic = bullets).

I'm ready.

and also = after the huge success of Dark Souls 1 and 2, who the fuck expects Sony just to let their Demons Soul IP just to unused? No-one, that's who.
oh course magic guns
thats how we can avoid bring modernness into the series

It's really hard to tell, the compression is horrific, but the assets look like a nice jump over Dark Souls, hopefully it's 60fps too, it looks like what a next-gen Souls should I think. The fog door is the most obvious comparison, it looks like it's built from independent alphas at various depths, a notable step up.

Eh, I've only played Dark Souls 1+2 on PC - 60fps 1080p/downscaled 4K goodness

either way, I fully believe the screenshots in the OP are from a future Demons Souls 2 for the PS4. It make sense.

I'm just trying to make sense of it. Sony own Demons' Souls as a IP. Why not elaborate on it?

I will be extremely disappointed if this is real, because if the game isn't named Demon's Souls 2, there is absolutely no reason to make the game an exclusive.

Ugh :/ Why only Sony fans will get to play it?

Why does it have to be called Demon's Souls 2? It would be a From Software/Japan Studio game, which are basically the same development teams as a Demon's Souls 2 would have/occupy. The name itself shouldn't matter.

Same to those hoping it's Demon's Souls 2. Again, what does it matter? It's still a Souls game. Being Demon's Souls 2 won't suddenly make the game better, and there are bound to be several gameplay changes from Demon's Souls too as well. I mean unless you really want them to continue the lore with the demons specifically.

Anyway, if real, cool. Doesn't really look like a PS4 game, but meh.

Cheerful reminder for the cry babies: games cost money to make. People, as in the developers, need to be paid cashmoney to spend hundreds of hours chipping away at their creations in order for them to come to fruition. If they don't have money, they cannot do this, because they need to eat, pay bills, feed families, buy cocaine, fuck hookers, and whatever else. No moneys, no games.

Enter the publisher. The developer often pitches a project they assuredly do not have money to pay for on their own. Publisher agrees to pay their wages and ensure the game actually gets made and shipped.

Catch: Publishers often have requirements to sweeten their end of the deal. This is fair. This is business. Because it's their goddamn money paying for a game that would otherwise not exist.

Example: Bayonetta 2. SEGA partially funded a project they technically owned, pitched by Platinum Games. SEGA ultimately decided "fuck that" and pulled the plug. Enter Nintendo, who struck a deal to finish paying for the project. Ergo, Wii U exclusive.

This is the same case, most likely. Project Beast/Demon's Souls 2 needed funding. Those people making the game need someone to pay their wage, so they can make the goddamn game, and eat/shit/fuck. Sony is, by all rumours, funding this project. No Sony, no game as you see it.

Hence exclusivity.

If this is in fact Demon's Souls 2 then Sony owns the IP and nobody should be shocked or upset.

This Game Informer article/interview from 2012 kind of hinted that Sony would eventually want to revisit the world:

Sony owns the Demon’s Souls IP. What are you going to do with it?

We never sell our IPs. Well, I should never say never, but it’s not our business. Our business is to grow our IP and we love Demon’s Souls. From Software is a very important business partner, so we’ll see.
