I hope this is not confirmed until E3 and no more media shows up. I want the actual bombs at Sony E3. E3 usually becomes dull when most is already been revealed. Keep a tight lid on the leaks Sony!!

I'm wondering how the formula is going to change.

I'm playing Dark Souls 2 right now, and while I love the game, it's definitely a refinement of the mechanics instead of a real jump.

Hopefully Project Beast provides more of a jump.

I've never played a Souls game before. Maybe I need to one day based off of the hype the games garner on GAF.

Also, the screens and the character remind me of Soul Sacrifice. Don't know why exactly, but they do.

You... understand that forum poster hype counts for approximately jack shit in the actual sales performance of a game, right?

That's fundamentally what drives this narrative of controlled leaks, I guess: forum posters thinking that as clearly the most important customers, a publisher's top priority is to ensure that they have a steady stream of "hype." In reality the publishers' priority is getting a ton of more casual buyers, who are hugely influenced by the media but almost not at all by forum hype, to be aware of the game and interested in picking it up.

You basically have to drill down to the type of ultra-niche, 50k-or-less games that only forum posters really pick up before this equation changes, and Souls is way bigger than that these days.

You think media attention will have died down or be non-existent due to this leak, but have any major sites even ran a story on this?

I don't think so, from either fear of looking foolish if it's fake or because of an NDA.

This leak is fine for the fans and consumers (who you are demeaning their value, when the Souls series was built on word of mouth). The media outlets and casuals can have their day, come E3.

Whatever it is, I want it.

Be nice to serve up some crow to all those people that yelled about From never working with Studio Japan again, never competing with themselves, and everyone who disagreed was a fanb--Aw forget it. Just happy a new compelling-looking game is being made.

Probably the push I needed to pick up a PS4. Good job, Sony & From. Make games I want, and I'll buy 'em.

If you get one soon, get Bound By Flame. been hearing good things and I'm picking it up next week. Support Console RPGs!

I'm guessing they went straight into this game after finishing KNACK.
Oh, then I WANT TO BELIEVE.
Japan Studios is much bigger than moving from project to project. The have hundreds of employees. Which is why I want to belive Sony AAA JRPG.

Yes, that Dark Souls art direction is back! DS2 was a pretty good imitation, but just didn't scratch that itch. I feel so relieved.

Looks like all that Demonite tips finally show their teal face, and it's a really wonderful surprise. I didn't buy Dark Soils 2 waiting for the inevitable next gen version, but actually getting an actual next gen (now current gen) designed game is the best.

While I'm hyped by the leak, i would have preferred to have been surprised by a surprise trailer during E3. It would have been a real Megaton announcement.

As always when people start peddling this, I ask: what's the marketing plan that puts this into place? What's the real-money return on investment that's driven by this release of information? If you're the guy who proposes this, what do you say to your boss to explain why you will make more money by releasing bad photos of your game early than you would by saving the reveal for the conference that's being covered by major media outlets?

Are you blind or something? Before the game is even officially announced there is a thread of over 60 pages (or 3000 replies) talking about it here and god only know how many replies on 4chan which are two great gaming communities on the net size wise. It creates an incredible buzz among readers even if only for the word "leak", everyone wants to know if something leaks and what it is even if you are not particularly interested on the subject in question... want an example? I don't care about the Souls series more than any other game and yet i'm here to view the news and even commenting on it, I know i'm more hyped about Sony's E3 after this "leak" even if this is a game that i'll likely not buy nor care too much.
Your "it can't be a leak because the pictures are blurry and publishers/software houses don't want that" doesn't work either because given the controlled nature of these leaks they are released only in communities where people knows way too well that this is not how the game actually looks like and that those are picture that are compressed as hell.

But sure if you want to believe those are genuine leaks feel free to, however people think about this will not stop software houses (or genuine leakers depending on what's one stance) releasing informations about stuff.

Don't know if already posted but CVG has this:

'Leaked' screenshots show From Software's rumored 'Project Beast'

Potential collaboration with SCE Japan

Dark Souls 2 developer From Software is working on a new action game called Project Beast, if screenshots posted to NeoGAF are to be believed.

They do not offer any hint at the game's platform. However, Gematsu reports that a PS4 collaboration between Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and From Software has been rumored for a while.

A Sony employee who occasionally posts on the forum teased in January that the game in question would be "a whole different beast" (emphasis added).

The screenshots are unverified at the moment and should be treated as such. If they are legitimate, we may learn more at Sony's as-yet unscheduled E3 2014 media briefing.

I know right ?

This feels appropriately gritty/dark/dreary..I can't even put my finger on it but it almost looks something like this

So... Sony and From Software get paid for each post made in a thread about their games? I take it that's your business model here since I asked you how this leak is going to turn into more actual cash money.

It creates an incredible buzz among readers even if only for the word "leak", everyone wants to know if something leaks and what it is even if you are not particularly interested on the subject in question...

I think you could stand to talk to some more normal people and a few less dedicated forum posters when forming your opinion about these things. The very fact that you're talking to me about how you're getting "hyped" about a game series you don't care about, that you're not even going to buy, because a thread got posted on an internet forum, makes it clear that you are so far from the typical purchaser as to be completely unrepresentative and, therefore, completely unimportant from a financial standpoint.

they are released only in communities where people knows way too well that this is not how the game actually looks like and that those are picture that are compressed as hell.

If that were true we wouldn't get these leaks on GAF. :P

Whats with the massive sony bias, if it's not Demons 2 it's not going to be an exclusive.

Why now would they make an exclusive when they got so much cash off the Dark Souls series being multi-plat?

Don't you folks want to see it come to xbox and pc too? I mean PC version will always be superior anyways if it's like all the ps4 games out so far and won't reach 60fps. 60fps in Dark Souls 2 makes it absolutely incredible.

What's with the massive PC bias?

Good. Glad they wasted their bullet. Now they need to roll out TLG at e3 or risk getting ashamed!

Whoa, you got your mod status back? :)

Could've sworn that you probably lost it when your username was in blue & not in red, as well as your avatar being upside down. Or was that someone else?

See, this all falls apart when you remember that we represent a tiny portion of the consumer base no matter how big we are "size wise" and the exact same (or slightly better) result would be achieved by doing a big flashy trailer at E3 without spoiling it ahead of time and keeping the novelty of the name fresher in people's minds before launch.

Also, your "given the controlled nature of these leaks" implies that you somehow have a concrete, definitive example of a compressed blurry screenshot being deliberately leaked by a company.

Yes, ntkrnl was another situation where people who didn't know what they were talking about went on and on about "controlled leaks." It really only took about five minutes of thought about things like the canceled XB1 model to understand why that wasn't a marketing-planned leak, but that didn't stop people from opining without any factual basis.

As someone who has taken part in quite a few "controlled leaks" with many of the companies I've worked for in the past, (non-gaming)

I'd like to think i knew what i was talking about, a controlled leak is more about mindshare, shock and enthusiasm. Profit margin is an afterthought. This goes for something as trivial as a video game release schedule to automobiles we would never be able to afford with both out yearly incomes combined.

If you want to believe that the whole nktrnl debacle was not a controlled leak, fair enough, but I take issue with trying to high horse and claim people who disagree with your belief "don't know what they're talking about".
