RUMOR: Project Beast (From Software/Sony Japan Studio, PS4) [Port begging = ban]

Hopefully we get the lightning system that we were supposed to have in Dark Souls 2. No more being held back by last gen consoles.

As much as I would like for this to be a PS4 exclusive, I'm just not seeing enough evidence to support that. Isn't the From Soft / Japan Studio collaboration just rumor? Or am I missing something?

demonite has been teasing us for months about this. And miyazaki has been MIA for a while now.

I would classify myself a core gamer, and I'm fine wine 30 for this game. Don't put words in other people's mouths.

Agreed. I'm most certainly a "core gamer," insofar as that's a thing that exists, and I don't give a damn about 60fps above other things. Is it nice? Of course. Is it preferable? Absolutely. Should it be prioritized over higher resolution, better textures, or more effects? Absolutely not. But that's just one person's opinion. 60fps is one of many things a person could find important, but it's certainly not something most people are demanding, core gamers included.

Didn't that bit come from the same source as the pics? Seems strange to believe one without the other...

Since this thread has been exploding with posts all day, has there been any reason to believe this is actually related to the souls series in any way, or just wishful thinking for the time being?

That one pic which shows a "portal" over an entrance to me anyways, states that its in a similar world. Or should I say appears to be one anyways. Similar to the souls games when its usually a boss room ahead.

There are a few parts where there are enemies around and it runs at 60FPS on PS3/360. The more open areas don't, though.
Might be the case on 360, but I can't recall that ever being the case on PS3. If it actually was it was probably in a small corridor with nothing else there... and probably more like 40 then 60 anyway.

Damn...that definitely screams "Souls" to me. I'll keep my expectations low just in case, but that definitely looks like a fog gate.

We know that Sony trademarked three games recently ... This one seems to fit the bill perfectly:

Demon Souls: Bloodborne.

Or perhaps it's just going to be called Bloodborne?

We know for a fact that SERIES TITLE + SUBTITLE means bomba. We saw it happen this past generation a few times, people can't trust subtitles. Maybe they should just dare and go for Demon's Souls 2 - Bloodborne with the 2 so big it takes half cover.

From a strictly marketing perspective, doesn't it make sense to keep "Souls" in the name, though?

It would make no sense to omit it. If Sony is going after From is because they saw the IP is strong and cheap enough to capitalize on.

It's impossible to look at that image and not assume it's a spiritual successor to Demons' Souls.

I mean, fuck. You can just imagine the "enter the mist" dialog come up, and then suddenly "MASSIVE FUCK YOU DEMON" healthbar at the bottom of the screen

The fact that it's by From Software is marketing enough to the people that matter. The souls games have been two different franchises but kept the same style and gameplay. It's a bit clouded. Announcing another souls game so soon would be pretty bad, this is highly unlikely to have a Souls name in my opinion.

It really does suck that these things get leaked. Even though most of us accepted the fact that a Demon's Souls game at the very least was in development, that doesn't compare to knowing this. It'll still be a fun conference, but the big surprises are always nice. That's why I was disappointed with the MS leaks earlier this year as well even though they were kind of needed around here...lol.

I'm sure this will be a game I'll bitch about and love at the same time. Sounds like it's been in development for a long time so I'm curious to see when it comes out. Early or late 2015?

Best looking fog gate they've done. Also, love the texture detail and normal mapping of the walls.

Yeah Kamiya doesn't have anything against SCE, on the contrary he doesnt seem to mind working for anyone.

As for Mikami, I think his problem was more with Kutaragi than with SCE, can't really remember where I read it though

Actually iirc it was because Mikami's playstations would always break whenever he wanted to play Super Robot Wars. Lol

Of course that changed during PS3 since he enjoyed playing and praised both Uncharted 2 and GOW3.

Which explained Vanquish on ps3 being superior (how little but still it was) over the 360 version.

To be fair to Giantbomb, they usually dont run with the daily rumors unless Klepek vets it pretty well. Remember he sat on the (initial) Xbone 180 for a while before they ran it. DualShockers was all over this instantly of course.

Right, that's exactly what I meant. I've got a lot of respect for Klepek and GB in general doing their best to honor whatever embargo conditions they've agreed to, even so much as to err on the side of not saying anything even if it's probably ok (e.g. saying something on a Bombcast before the embargo lifts even though it'll lift the day the broadcast is posted).

My original point being that because some of these places like GB, Kotaku, Ploygon, Eurogamer, etc.. are not saying anything in fact says everything, imo.

and...

When Rorie asked them what they thought about the leak they all kinda kept quiet and said "Yep, yep. yep." Like they knew about it about didn't want to say anything.

lol classic. I love it.

just added a few things to it...

lol. Now, that's a goddamn souls game.

Hnnng!

Oh man, reading all this earlier today was so awesome. I was like a giddy child when I clicked the thread. I fully expect it to have the Souls name, but I am leaning towards it being something new like Dead Souls or something.

What an E3 Sony has shaping up already:

-This game's reveal.
-Uncharted PS4 gameplay reveal.
-More Order:1886 gameplay/details.
-Reintroducing DriveClub.

Even if that's all they did it'd still be an amazing E3 for them. Can't wait to see if Quantic Dream or Sony Santa Monica show their new stuff.

I don't really see the point of changing the name. Didn't see the point when they changed it from demons souls to dark souls either. The dark souls series could easily have been called demons souls 2 and 3 and no one would have bat an eye. Maybe I'm missing something though, only completed a handful of bosses in demons souls before dark souls came out and I switched over to that.

What's that guy's story? Soul Sac's stories are somewhat terrifying in the way how these normal people eventually turned into those monsters.

There was once a kingdom whose queen had given birth to twin princes. Naturally, the rarity of royal twins brought a great deal of attention to the kingdom.

For the two princes, a life of sibling competition lay in store.

Who was born first?

Who would be the first to smile?

Who would be the first to turn over in their sleep?

The first to walk?

The first to speak?

"The first" this, "the first" that...

The older prince, a bright and well built boy, was loved by everyone in the kingdom.

He was also superior to his younger brother in every single respect.

As the younger prince grew older, comparisons with his brother grew more frequent, and more unfavorable. His envy was compounded, and he became a maudlin young man.

His father, the King, naturally focused all of his love and affection on the older twin.

He began to distance himself from the younger prince, finding him a singularly difficult character. They rarely exchanged words.

Though he kept him at a distance, the King still showered his younger son with gifts, trying to ensure there was plenty to keep him occupied.

The Prince would take these gifts down to his room in the castle dungeons, and smash every one to pieces.

After all, the Prince understood that his father did not love him.

On his tenth birthday, the younger prince was given a bird.

He began to torture it, and before long, it was dead.

The bird sang to its last.

A shiver ran down the Prince's spine. He had never experienced pleasure like this before...

Tormenting a weaker being had given him a momentary sensation of power.

He quickly asked his father for another bird, then another after that.

When he had grown tired of torturing birds, he turned his attention to different animals.

All sorts of creatures were delivered to the dungeon, where the Prince could toy with them as he pleased.

One day, a reptile from a distant land was delivered to the Prince. A "crocodile", they called it.

A grin spread across the young prince's face when he laid eyes on his latest plaything.

He liked the crocodile's violent nature, its jaws looked easily strong enough to mangle a man's limbs.

The Prince kept his powerful new pet in a special cage, one that allowed him to abuse it in safety.

After all, he was better than this crocodile...

This gave the younger prince, who had always been unfavorably compared to his brother and scorned as a result, a sense of self-worth.

A sense that he could only achieve by comparing himself to something else...

The Prince started to favor his crocodile over the rest of his menagerie. Of all the animals he tormented, it was abusing the crocodile that gave him the greatest sense of superiority.

Several years passed. The King grew old, and decided that it was time for an heir to inherit the throne.

That he would choose the older prince was a foregone conclusion.

A world of difference separated the princes. Compared to his sturdy brother, the little princeling was positively spindly.

The young prince spent his brother's coronation down in the dungeons, feeding his crocodile. Dark thoughts filled his mind.

If he could only release the giant crocodile from its cage and sneak it into his brother's room...

Surely even his brother couldn't overpower it.

He could kill his brother at any time...

His life was at his mercy...

He was, in other words, more powerful than his brother...

He was soon bent double in manic convulsions of laughter.

One day, the new king went to visit a neighboring country.

In his absence, the younger prince acted as though he owned the castle.

With his brother gone... Gone... Killed... Mangled...

The young prince's wild thoughts grew stronger, hardening into a firm desire that began to gnaw at him.

All of a sudden, a curious chalice appeared, and spoke to the Prince.

"I can fulfill your desire," it said. "For a price..."

These words filled the Prince with conviction. Somehow he knew the chalice was not lying.

The "price" paid was his beloved crocodile. He sacrificed it without a moment's hesitation.

The Prince began to undergo a metamorphosis.

His skin became scaly and his jaws became wide and powerful. Most notably of all, however, he became much, much bigger.

Soon he had grown too big for the dungeon, the walls of which collapsed under the pressure of his expanding body.

Soldiers and other servants were crushed as crocodile prince's body swelled.

And still he continued to grow.

"Who's the little brother now!?" he thought to himself.

His limbs burst through the castle walls, and his neck thrust out of the front gate. Still he did not stop growing, and before long the Prince was carrying the entire castle on his back as he walked around.

By the time his growth had ceased, the Prince had lost all grasp on reason.

The crocodile's cruel, violent instincts had overwhelmed him.

Though he could no longer be considered a human prince, there was one thing - one feeling - he retained from his previous life. A feeling that could not be abated.

A feeling of inferiority.

The strength of this feeling was revealed when the destination of the castle-carrying beast became apparent.

He was going to the country his brother was visiting.

Going to fulfill his original desire.

His desire to see his brother mangled in his jaws...

A Demon's/Dark Souls like game set in the Soul Sacrifice universe would be amazing.
