If this is legit, and it's really made by the staff behind demon/ds1, I finally have a reason to buy a ps4! :) that's a promise, souls-gaf

Looking too good to be fake

GAF when Beast Souls turns out to be 30 fps

Well done.

You're an uncouth scoundrel. I wish hitting the maiden would aggro everybody else in the Nexus. That'd be the perfect punishment for you.

That would have made things interesting.. The only ones that generally stayed on my good side were
Patches until I wanted his shield, and Ostrava, of course!

Thanks!

To do this day, after like 6 playsthroughs of DeS the only people I have killed in the Nexus are Yurt and Mephis. They are just too nice.

It'd be amazing if this game came out this year. This is definitely the first title I've seen that will sell me on the PS4.

Even though I fucking love the themes/aesthetic of Demon's/Dark I do think it's important the team doesn't simply get locked in a cycle of endlessly recycling these games just because fans love them. Even as a spiritual successor to Demon's Souls I'm glad that this, so far, looks a fair bit different aesthetically and I hope it grows and changes the formula in the same way Dark did over Demon's.

This team is incredibly talented and I don't think it does their creativity and skill a service to have them endlessly pander to one particular vision that fans find most relatable. Give us Demon's Souls 2.0, but make it something unique and fresh by its own merits.

It should be said that VG24/7 and CVG were also sourcing from the Gematsu article earlier in the day.

To their credit, GT's article actually went up this morning an hour after this monster of a thread was unleashed. So out of all the other larger news outlets, they were one of the first on the scene in terms of getting the info surrounding the leak out there.

Still, it'll be interesting to see how Sony & From play this in terms of releasing any more information or perhaps giving a nod to other outlets that do have more information, that they can go ahead and give their readers some more meat to chew on.

Missed the last 1,000 posts and only been away for the evening, miss anything important?

Amazing how much hype this has. While it's fun to see, it would have made for one hell of an E3 megaton, which is a bit disappointing.

Wow, Des spin-off is real. Remember when Demonite posted E3 countdown gifs last year, he hinted KH3, TLG, Demon's soul and many more (
HL3, Persona 4 (have no idea), FFVII

There's no way I could find this exciting when I'm still playing through dark souls 2. Could have waited at least a year, assuming it's real.

Do you have to pay for online for every game on PS4? Having to pay to accsess the online parts of the game sounds wrong. :/

So this really is what happened to Dark Souls II. Hard to believe. It seems that there's no confirmation Miyazaki is working on this, but it seems like a solid bet, so I won't begrudge all the people assuming that's the case.

I really wonder how the developers of Dark Souls II must have felt, working in the shadow of a larger, more prestigious project with better technical support. Whether DSII was actively hamstrung to make way for this project will probably never be publicly known, but it seems unfortunately plausible. We'll only be able to know for certain when this game releases, but it seems likely the "B-team" accusations were completely justified. Personally, I do feel that presenting DSII as From Software's "next big thing" while working silently on this simultaneously was disingenuous, and I'm disappointed.

Exclusivity seems like it would be detrimental financially, but the speculation others have put out that Sony will be supporting sequels to this game seems believable. Dark Souls continuing to exist alongside this as a separate, multiplatform franchise could make sense. I'm no expert, but I'm certainly curious how exactly this went down. In any case, an E3 reveal seems early for this, coming on the heels of DSII and dividing its fanbase, cutting off its longer term potential. I suppose they think it's worth it. Still, this leak must be very unpleasant for them.

In the end, this could be a truly fantastic game, but it will never be able to fully escape the tarnish of Dark Souls II's divided reception, and the possibility that it was a large factor in it. I wonder if they've made the right choice.

I'd feel the same way, but I bought PS+ for 2 years a while back for 60 bucks, because of the games, I didn't even care about the PS4 till this morning.

It already has, and it hasn't even been announced. Partly because Dark Souls II turned out to be a very good game, anyway.

Miyazaki, main programmers of the original team along with the designers were missing as soon as DkS 1 was finished. With the hints that Miyazaki wanted to work on a new title, insiders saying that Miyazaki is on board and the possibility of him working on a different title pretty much zero, I think its clear that this has Miyazaki and the original team at its helm. Many people are now realising that Dark Souls 2 was made by a inexperienced team with no Miyazaki and I think it tarnishes the Dark Souls brand rather than the Souls brand.

That's why it shouldn't have "Souls" in its title.. or even be a Souls game at all.

How exactly does it tarnish the brand? it's still an awesome game.

Good lord, this thread has been stuck to the top of Gaf all day, and I've finally decided to see what it's about. Will definitely check this out more. I just think some may be overreacting a bit, but then again, GAF overreacts to Dark Souls all the time. *shrugs*

They aren't
;)

More will come soon.

Lol people get so dramatic with the talk of DSII 'tarnishing' the brand. It is as you say. It might just be more of the same, and perhaps there is some weight to the fact that it's not as interconnected as Dark Souls, but it's still a great game and really only 'tarnishes' the brand to the pickiest of nitpickers.

I think its by far the most criticised Souls game, even with in the Souls community. Its disappointed many fans. Its still a good game yes. Again I don't think it will effect the Souls brand but maybe make people a bit more weary on a Dark Souls 3.

I hope they fix the animation up for Project Beast. For the most part, it's fine. But there's some really weird minor things that unfortunately bother me a lot, and I'm too stupid to articulate them.

Fake edit: I mean based on DS2. I have not seen PB, obviously.

I wonder how much that had to do with overhauling everything with a new engine in DS2 or the fact that the core programming team was largely different. I agree that the animations need a lot of work. The floaty and slippery-slidey feet have got to go.
