RUMOR: Project Beast (From Software/Sony Japan Studio, PS4) [Port begging = ban]

Any reasons why the major sites didn't jump on this news? It's weird that allmost none of them are reporting it, where as they never had any problems reporting rumors in the past. Maybe they have NDA's set in place?

Honestly, it's probably because they already know it's coming and have very clearly defined embargoes they are trying to abide by lest they burn some bridges.

I doubt it'll be a huge game for pushing the console, but the console is going to do fine anyway. The more interesting thing will be how viable the project is financially for both sides. The Souls games sell well, but not huge, and presumably the budget for this game is notably higher, I imagine they're looking to sell a couple of million, could be tough.

Definitely looks legit. Sony do seem to have a leaks issue. Not that I care, the sooner we get news the better

edit. I remember Tretton at one E3 saying something like 'that was one that didn't leak', what game was that?

Final Fantasy XIV

how does Sony have a leak issue after basically one game gets leaked? on top of previous months of people complaining PS4 has nothing coming, or they aren't announcing enough, as a direct result of them having a good lid on everything. Shit don't make no sense.

Every Souls fan who may have decided they didn't want a PS4 before will now consider getting one. Unless you think this franchise has very few fans outside of Sony-land, this WILL sell some consoles.

I mean it's not the kind of gangbusters as an exclusive CoD would be, but there IS an audience (no matter how small) that will bite on buying a PS4 so they can play this.

I'd really love to see a Souls game based in feudal Japan like Onimusha, fighting bunch of youkais.

Sounds ace.

More Souls style games would be cool. I still want the series to have a cool space sci-fi setting or futuristic, a polar opposite of the current high fantasy style.

Depends how its marketed. Next gen rpg's are getting more scarce, a next gen Souls game also has the benefit of having a sizeable and loyal fan base.

We saw how Infamous grew with a good marketing campaign despite a much smaller install base. Its possible for Beast do the same imo.

This will definitely sell systems, just reading comments I can see that. Its also good its coming out pretty early in the PS4's life.

Was this controlled? How do you mess up a "big" reveal like this almost a month before it is announced. It's not like the weekend before but the whole fucking month before.

If Sony's ship has this many holes in it, then let me know about Uncharted while we are at it

Well, the indications are that this was originally planned for a TGS reveal, so that means during planning phases, videos or whatever was probably prepared before last-minute changes.

VR was supposed to be unveiled at Gamescom last year, and clearly plans must have been made in advance, ( which leads to info sharing, etc) but because it didn't, stories start popping up left and right about the VR reveal that it was practically taken for granted to be real.

This looks very real. Interested in seeing if this will be the next evolution of the Soul games or something different. It will probably be fun either way. The look is already pretty cool.

I don't really believe in system sellers anymore, but I do believe that high quality games propel the system to do better. It's all about the system catalog/line up after all.

That seems plausible to me. It's easier to keep keep quiet on something leading up to when something was going to be revealed. It's another thing to try to keep that same secret after having to postpone that reveal for another 6 months.

The PS4 catalog is very rich in indie titles already, time for Sony to boost up the AAA selection now.

And if one system has a specific high quality game that the other doesn't, assuming all other games are equal, won't that make one specific console do better? That's the entire premise of "system seller".

Sure, it'll sell consoles, but not huge amounts, which is what I said. I guess in that sense Sony can justify lower sales by diverted revenue, but I'm still interested to know the sales projections.

I don't want to make it seem like I'm down on the news or anything, I'm super pumped, just curious about P&L, and even more interested in if From will be looking to make as much on Beast as a Dark Souls.

You get this game that sells a couple hundred thousand consoles, then you get another, and another, and another. Sony doesn't build its base off the back of one or two franchises. It's the strength of the entire library that keeps people interested.

This game will definitely have a greater impact than their previous From exclusive, Demon's Souls, because the franchise and developer have garnered a much bigger following.

Just a couple million? Dark Souls sold that, and it's looking like the sequel will easily do more.

So basically - The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing setting (fantasy/steampunk mix) + Souls gameplay?

I'm in.

In DeS the only way to get the Beast Soul was if you choose to kill/backstab the maiden in black at the end of the game. Which means if the title relates to the Beast Soul that then the evil ending might be cannon. Heh, would love the idea of past you being the main villain (interested to see what they decide our character would've done to the world after we stopped playing). Technically you could never kill the Maiden so it's not out of the question that she might make a return to help put the new demon back to sleep.

So I don't know much about what this is, but I want to know why there's so much hype surrounding it, I mean a rumoured title getting over 80 pages in a day is impressive and confusing at the same time

The souls franchise has become one of the most highly-regarded RPG franchises in the industry, especially beloved by hardcore gaming communities like GAF. This really isn't that strange.

A new game by the team that brought us the best game of last generation perhaps? ;)

Jeff Gerstmann is the other human on this planet that thinks the same way.

...Y'know, the camera pre-substance along with that shit radar was pretty fucking awful.
Yeah, the core game is great but the old camera system combined with the gameplay changes did not work out. I think Japanese developers were kind of stubborn on that front relative to the rest of the world though, many JRPGs (most notably FFX) still stuck with fixed cameras and it took awhile to shake that off. Hell, Tales kept on with the fixed camera until Xillia.

But Substance fixed that hugeass issue, so it's definitely MGS3 Substance > MGS4 > base MGS3 (though I do wonder even then.... greater or equal to instead?)
Good game, but a huge disappointment for hardcore MGS fans.
Also rather than trying to develop what it had for good or ill it basically just dumped it entirely for the second half. More driven by cinematics, and a lot of the stealth became outright BS. Well, the start of Chapter 3 was pretty good there, but after that it was a mess on the stealth gameplay front.

Demon Soul's spiritual successor

that is all what you need to know

It would suck if this was their TGS reveal game. That's a long wait for hear more. They should just show it at E3 now that it has already leaked.
