RUMOR: Project Beast (From Software/Sony Japan Studio, PS4) [Port begging = ban]

No way this releases this year right, spring at the earliest maybe?

I know im off topic but seeing those images made me think of Deep Down for some reason. What is going on with that game lately?

Hopefully they'll hire Durante as a consult to get this up and running at acceptable levels. This will be the fourth Souls-game I'll buy and the fourth I won't finish due to lack of skill. But I'll enjoy every second of it. :)

Do you give up too easily? The only thing that's difficult about the series is that you have to be patient and not get discouraged if you fuck up.

All my point was is that FROM specifically managed it; it was a response to people being crass surrounding FROM's past technical failures. I know it's not hard to achieve, other people seem to think FROM is completely incapable of it though. And on newer hardware that is easier to utilize, why couldn't they do it?
It's more a question of priorities on consoles, I pointed that out because 30 FPS is the standard on consoles (at best it seems sometimes) yet you can easily push many of those games at not just 60 FPS but 120 FPS, if not higher if left unlocked (not that there's much point to it outside of minimizing input lag.) Likewise From may go for 30 on PS4 with some dips and rises every so often. Nevermind that they never REALLY specialized in visually amazing games. Otogi might be the biggest exception, even Demon's Souls and Dark Souls tend to look sub par to a lot of other games technically, carrying themselves more on the atmosphere and art style while having spots like Blighttown and skipping on stuff that's now common in almost every other game like facial animation as the standard while conversing.

I think a 2015 release is the likeliest. As for Deep Down, the beta was pushed back to summer I think.

That still doesn't mean it ran at a stable 30fps. The game chocked everytime I destroyed a crate or a barrel.

Project Beast running at a locked 30fps would already be a large improvement over previous iterations. I don't get why people would expect 60fps since from software never targeted that before in any of their souls games.
That is a bit of exaggeration isn't it. I don't remember have issues with the game dropping an incredible amount of frames compared to Blight town. I got frustrated many times playing Dark Souls and still enjoyed. However, Demon Souls felt smooth, till this day I feel that it is a much better game technically. I don't really recall what area in Demon Souls dropped, it doesn't stand out.

The Souls series is one of the few franchises that make me genuinely excited anymore.
I don't give a shit about the graphics or the resolution, give me more souls and nothing else matters.
Any Souls style game is welcome.

This makes no sense at all. I wish people would stop talking bullshit like this. I'd bet most PC gamers here on NeoGAF never played a game with a rock-solid 60fps on their PC. Please stop bringing this shit into console discussions. Framerate is a design decision, it always was.

It's pretty much a rock solid 60fps in the pc version.

And I've played a fuckton of games with locked 60fps on pc and it was pretty much always better for the feel and look of it so uh....yeaaahhh noooo. Unless by design decision you mean "making a game pretty over making it play better". If they can get it to run at 60 fps on ps4 I I'm sure they'll aim for it.

So I don't know much about what this is, but I want to know why there's so much hype surrounding it, I mean a rumoured title getting over 80 pages in a day is impressive and confusing at the same time

This isnt hard to understand at all when you consider thst the Souls games are considered by many to be among the best games of last gen, and among the best of all time by many others. Plus the combat/gameplay mechanics/atmosphere are very unique to the Souls series. Nobody does this nearly as well as From.

Would you like to go play the King's Field games again?

It makes perfect sense, and if you read my follow up you'd realize why. I was addressing someone that said:

I would like to think that GAF has collectively learned to not expect such technical proficiency with From Software. 1080p and a consistent 30 FPS would be a damn miracle.

I pointed out they managed to get it done on PC; they're not that technically incapable anymore. They've learned. I never said to expect them to do it; of course it's a design decision, I don't really even care about the framerate. It was never a criticism I carried for any of the Souls games. It can be done on console, just like PC. Does that make any sense yet?

Deep Down is living up to its name at the moment. Probably for the best, there is too much time-thief software on PS4 as it is.

The few screenshots that got released have a pirate-y feeling to it and people were derailing the thread by saying this game should have harbors and stuff.

IT'S NOT EVEN CONFIRMED IT'LL HAVE SHIPS. STOP WHINING!

Haha, made me laugh out. Now i want to fight a giant demon squid on a ship. Preferably a demon ship. With demon pirates.

what is this webm stuff. i see that shit mentioned everywhere now!

Here you go! ;)

btw, my comment about AAA titles did not in any way imply that Sony should slow down or even stop indie game support. It is a common perception that despite already having quality and variety in the software it offers, the PS4 could sill use a few more blockbusters...

In fact, I have spent loads more money on indies in the PSN than on "big" titles for the last few months, and do not regret one cent spent on those games! :)

That's exactly the bullshit I'm talking about. Your statement makes no sense at all and if you had a tiny bit of understanding how these things work, you would not write such nonsense.

That doesn't explain why you're disregarding my follow-up. Do you understand why I made that point yet, or no? Don't lump me in with drive-by comments like that. Sure, I should have been clearer, but I've made the point a few times since. I was addressing peoples notion that FROM are technically incompetent. Things seem to be changing...

It's even got an option to automatically adjust the graphics to keep the game running at 60 fps even when the engine is stressed.

Please stop it.

I think you should post a thread to educate people on how higher framerates do not automatically imply better controls/gameplay. There is a lot of that confusion going on in GAF.

I just noticed this thread and it exploded in a matter of hours into page 90.... so what I gather from the OP is:

.- PS4 exclusive game co-developed by From Sotfware and a Sony Japanese studio.
.- not in any way related to any souls game.
.- these are rumors or leaks, it can still be fake.
.- people asking for a port of a game sony is going to pay for its exclusivity will result in a ban.

Anything else to collect from these 90 pages?

Speculation on the name. some say beast souls, I say soul of the beast.

and demon mermaids, gargoyles and tidal waves made out of death player's tormented souls. All in real-time, 1080p

Oh god, I can totally see that. The loneliness of being out on the ocean fits the series' atmosphere quite well.

Second part of the fight: the monsters throw you off the ship and you have to fight at the bottom of the (demon) ocean. After that you discover a sunken city. Being hollow means you don't have to breathe, right.

From, get on it!

In what way? Not necessarily at all, I'd say. Could be some sort of DeSo sequel, or a heavy spirtual successor. It's not related to Dark Souls that's for sure. But this is most definitely related to the Souls series.

Well, there is nothing to conclude from the leak yet. We don't know whether this game would or wouldn't be the next "Souls" franchise, even if the leak is real.

As for the bans, GAF has never been the same since Bayonetta 2 was announced as a Wii U exclusive. I can understand why the moderators would now want the port begging nonsense to stop.

Would you like to go play the King's Field games again?
I actually kind of would if they were at least sped up some. It's not just that Demon's Souls and its successors were much nicer looking, it's that they also were much more playable. King's Field is like the ancestor of Elder Scrolls combat really, just Elder Scrolls makes it way faster.

... Now I sort of wonder what it'd be like if someone modded King's Field games into Skyrim.

If this game is anywhere near as good as previous Souls than I will be glad to have 2 Dualshock 4's. I have had many 8+ hour playtime sessions - that would drain the DS4 battery to nothing!

It's even got an option to automatically adjust the graphics to keep the game running at 60 fps even when the engine is stressed.

So did the first one (automatic adjustment, not 60fps) afair, but without user-control to switch it off. And let's be honest, I wasn't a good PC port, far from it.

I think it's because it's a natural use of the greater GPU performance. It's expensive to implement lots of compute heavy effects, and arguably not hugely advantageous. They may simply favor greater performance with comparable visuals.

Just because Demon/Dark/Dark2 targeted 30 doesn't mean this will, they also targeted 720p, doesn't mean this will.

Hopefully this launches by spring, the wait can be unbearable at times. That undead beast looks ridiculous, has me very excite for more info/video.

Yeah the first game was terribly optimised. The second game runs so much better it's not even funny. 30 fps with heaps of drops vs 60 fps pretty much constant on the exact same PC.

People act like the worst but that's ridiculous, even when you're trying to use the standard of basic PC features. We can only wish the worst ports settled for a little above parity.

May count as one of the most mediocre though, being neither worse OR better than the other versions by default outside of defucking Blighttown.

I think some are faster than others? I just know KF4 looks painfully slow in videos.
