GAF when Beast Souls turns out to be 30 fps

I would like to think that GAF has collectively learned to not expect such technical proficiency with From Software. 1080p and a consistent 30 FPS would be a damn miracle.

Not sure I'd go that far, but this is a huge get for Sony. Even if it's not a direct sequel to Demon's Souls or even has Souls in the name and features guns, if it's anywhere near as brutal as Demon's or Dark, Sony will have a hit on their hands.

That's definitely true, the funny thing is that I was leaning on getting an Xbone at the end of this year but after seeing this I'll instead get a PS4 even if I'm not interested in anything else thus far on the system.

If MS shows a system seller at the E3 as well I'll end up with two new consoles under my TV this fall. :S

Lol you think a console Souls game is going to reach 30FPS.

You should play Dark Souls 2 on the 360, it runs at 30-40fps almost all the time. :P

I'll just chalk it down as unpopular opinion. If people are ready then so be it.
It's not about the opinion, you said you haven't played the games because they feel too frequent. This one will be much closer than the others, but the others are less frequent than many franchises. If you don't play any yearly or bi-yearly franchises, that's fine of course, but it's hardly typical.

I'm in the same spot. For 99.99999999999% you & me will be buying the PS4 hardware for this game, though. No biggie as I said earlier - the money waits in the bank.

Also:

- don't care if it is 30 fps
- don't care if it is 720p

The game could be 640x480, black & white for all I care.

Yup, pretty much this. I want to buy a PS4 anyway, so far there is just no exclusive that is worth it for me. This game might just be that title.

This is why I always wait 1-2 years before making a purchase. Chances are by then several interesting exclusives have been announced or released.

What in the world does "[Port begging=ban]" mean?

Don't make posts like "please have a PC port, there better be an XB1 port" etc.

You know what port begging is right?

What in the world does "[Port begging=ban]" mean?

It means that if you have nothing to offer to the discussion other than expressing a wish for the game to be released on another system then you're going to cop a short ban.

miracle? Nah, not really. demon's souls was pretty smooth on ps3, surely less shitty thank dark souls console version. and ... this one is on ps4.

I generally prefer games with longer development cycles since I don't have a lot of time on my hands. I usually wait for a while before I make a purchase too. To put it bluntly, I'm abnormal but there are certainly a few like me.

What in the world does "[Port begging=ban]" mean?

The few screenshots that got released have a pirate-y feeling to it and people were derailing the thread by saying this game should have harbors and stuff.

IT'S NOT EVEN CONFIRMED IT'LL HAVE SHIPS. STOP WHINING!

lol. Elitism of any kind is annoying. Though, in the case of many posts, it was simply a lack of information as people did not realise it was SCEJ.

I actually think console exclusives from third parties may be on the rise, most notably in Japan. With next gen costs rising many games that aren't big franchises already, I can see getting funded by Sony, MS and Nintendo.

For instance: Bayonetta 2, W101, Dead Rising 3, Deep Down, Beast Souls etc

I think its a good thing as these pubs possibly might not have made these games or taken the risk without funding.
Well, last gen we had the interesting situation where the PS3's fate was uncertain, Wii blew it up big out of nowhere, and 360 was initially ahead and still roughly toe to toe at worst outside of Japan, and combined with how blu-ray space wasn't QUITE essential at the start we saw a lot more hedge their bets on both, and when sales were roughly split it was probably worth the effort anyway.

This time around it seems like we may be seeing the return of the PS2/Xbox/GC dynamic, although less extreme between PS4/XB1 and MORE extreme between them and Wii U. PS4's doing mediocre in Japan but it's still clearly the choice for many Japanese developers/publishers, XB1 may not be as essential to those games outside of Japan and even last gen a lot of games were just fine staying as exclusives, with little incentive to NOT be exclusive going forward with the systems entering their last years but the PS3 going stronger relatively in Japan.

Actually, in some ways it's probably going to be worse once next gen really gets rolling. We're already seeing Dynasty Warriors hit PS4 but snub Xbox, and that was one of the few prominent multiplat Japanese series during the PS2/Xbox days. And while I imagine MGSV:PP will still be multiplatform I wouldn't be surprised if the GZ sales gave pause to whether the XB1's really worth supporting for prominent Japanese series that had most of their sales on PS3 even in the US. Might well see a bunch of them go with XB1 versions in their upcoming iteration but after that go Sony exclusive again.
Lol you think a console Souls game is going to reach 30FPS.
Well, Demon's Souls and Dark Souls WERE "it's 30 or it's 15... if not worse" but when it was 30 it absolutely was 30.

Dark Souls on PS3 had glimpses of slow down when big effects hit but I never really felt real performance difficulties with those games.
I can say though that Demon's Souls ran smoother than Dark Souls overall.

1080p with locked 30fps would be a revelation with Project Beast.

Honestly, it's probably because they already know it's coming and have very clearly defined embargoes they are trying to abide by lest they burn some bridges.

I think you're right. If anyone saw yesterday's unprofessional fridays from Giantbomb, Rorie brought up the subject, the rest of the guys just tried to ignore it but in a way you could tell they knew about it from way before that. Maybe is just me but I don't think this is fake.

Demon's Souls was anything but smooth.

It was not ideal but it run better than DaS probably due to the smaller levels.

That being said I'm curious to see if this game will continue the interconnected world style of DaS or the level based structure of Demon's...I can't wait to see more of this, hopefully we'll get a good amount of info about the game at this E3.

They managed 60fps on the PC version of Dark Souls II...

Either way, I'd be fine with 30 if they have to drop it down to include more striking visuals.

The fact that it's by From Software is marketing enough to the people that matter. The souls games have been two different franchises but kept the same style and gameplay. It's a bit clouded. Announcing another souls game so soon would be pretty bad, this is highly unlikely to have a Souls name in my opinion.

Do you want to know what else would be a "bad" idea? Announcing another Call of Duty or Assassin Creed game within a year of the release of a previous installment.... no wait, that's billion dollar idea... ;)

Yeah, it definitely ran better than Dark, but smooth it certainly wasn't.

I have faith that Japan Studio will play a bigger role this time, would be nice if they rope in the ICE team as well to help make sure it's as technically sound as possible.

I recall only one area which had slow down in Demons Souls and that was 2-2, when talking to the merchant and a horde of lava bugs appear.

If this is 60 fps sweet baby jesus.

Is this 100% confirm Sony exclusive? The thread title start with the word RUMOR though...

Its only put as RUMOR since it hasn't been officially announced. The evidence is telling.

Demon Souls is much smoother than both Dark iterations.

Yeah, that's certainly true. Although I might disagree on saying it ran much smoother. It definitely didn't have any many issues as Dark, but it still suffered from its fair share of horrendous frame-rate drops that sometimes required a checkpoint reload to fix.

60 FPS on PC isn't really a remarkable accomplishment especially on a 360/PS3 focused game, all it requires is not building your game around a rigid FPS limit or handicapping the engine in some absurd way; years later and I doubt you can get Witcher 1 in 60 FPS stable STILL... except maybe if you overclock your CPU to very high levels, because the engine is heavily CPU bound and to raw Hz in a single core. And you can thank Bioware for that, CD Projekt Red just pushed their engine to its limits.

I don't know, Dark Souls 2 runs GREAT on PC, even on less powerful ones.

My PC is less powerful than a PS4 and runs DS2 at max settings @ 1080p 60 fps (without any external AA or downsampling or anything though). Project beast will probably run using the same engine (since FROM said they made it with next gen in mind) so hopefully it'll run well as well.

This is just one of many armor sets. Geez. I'm not sure why people are obsessed with the characters look. This is a Souls games and not some single player uncharted game with a set look for the main protagonist.

assuming it is a ps4 sony exclusive i for one would not be surprised to see soul sacrifice crossover dlc for the game, especially costumes

It's not even a pirate-y feeling, it's more like Warhammer Empire aesthetics combined with Witch Hunt/Van Helsing stuff than pirate-y. It's not even steampunk as a couple suggested, it's more like pure Dark Fantasy that's a century or two forward in time than Sword and Sorcery Dark Fantasy (like DeS). I don't know where people saw the pirates.

Demon's was definitely more smoother although personally i always found the complaints about Dark Souls performance (on PS3) a bit exaggerated.

I think Dawg was being sarcastic.

Port begging = harbour begging.

looks cool, but i don't know how a battle system like the one of the souls series would adapt to the introduction to firearms.

All my point was is that FROM specifically managed it; it was a response to people being crass surrounding FROM's past technical failures. I know it's not hard to achieve, other people seem to think FROM is completely incapable of it though. And on newer hardware that is easier to utilize, why couldn't they do it?

Come on man the signs that this is a true Souls game by From Soft/Sony are all over the place...

1)We have been hearing rumours about Sony's and From Software's collaboration for a long while now

2)We knew that Miyazaki was working on something for quite some time along with his team that worked on Demon's and the original Dark.

3)These screens "scream" Souls Game all over them.I mean they even included a screenshot with a fog gate.

4)Demonite (a Sony employee here on GAF) has been hinting about this for a long time often using the word "beast" in his posts. And now this is leaked and guess what it's code named "Project Beast".

I really hope it's true, and it's certainly a best case scenario for me. It's just such a perfect storm for what I'd want(Souls, Dev members, exclusive ps4) that something has to wrong here.

Well, in terms of development, it's hard to guess, because we don't know when it started, or when it's going to ship, but assuming most of the Dark Souls team went on to this project with some staying on to handle the DLC, and assuming it launches sometime next year, they've had over three years, maybe closer to four.

It's actually on the fairly long side of things, but Japan seems to still be on longer cycles, so it's probably closer to the norm there.

Hopefully they'll hire Durante as a consult to get this up and running at acceptable levels. This will be the fourth Souls-game I'll buy and the fourth I won't finish due to lack of skill. But I'll enjoy every second of it. :)

Demon Souls is much smoother than both Dark iterations.
That still doesn't mean it ran at a stable 30fps. The game chocked everytime I destroyed a crate or a barrel.

Project Beast running at a locked 30fps would already be a large improvement over previous iterations. I don't get why people would expect 60fps since from software never targeted that before in any of their souls games.
