He's more motivated by Captain Stacey's death than Uncle Ben, didn't seem to give many fucks at all in this film.

I enjoyed the film overall, but man did it have some issues. Gwen and Peter had great own screen chemistry, but I grew tired of seeing Gwen and Peter interact, as I couldn't stand their dialogue. Rhino was okay, but definitely throwaway all the same. I quite enjoyed Harry and the Goblin in the movie. Sure, the Goblin was rushed to allllll hell, but I enjoyed it all the same. Gwen Stacey's death had true gravity, and was well executed. Sally Fields also acted her ass off. Just felt like they tried to pack in too much to this film.

I definitely think I enjoyed Electro more than other people on here. Also found Max entertaining for the sheer fact, that his hair may have been some of the worse I've ever seen in film. Dat Jheri curl comb over.
 
Anyone else say in there head "infamous second son fetch chasd" when spidy was following electro from the Oscorp building to the power plant?

Dude I think at one point they have this "remember the thing that I've told you about electricity" voice over when he's about to fight Electro in the plant ...

Completely incompetent story telling.
 
I saw this last night and posted some stuff a few pages ago.

I liked it, a lot.

But, does anyone know they named Harry's recpitionist Felicia, I mean instead of MJ in the next one (which after they cut her out of ASM2, I'm assuming the path there going down) are they going to introduce black cat? Not that I would mind at all.

Then again I could be overthinking it a ton.

I think they'll go with black cat. I think MJ won't be introduced till the end of the third film and she'll be a main character in 4 if there is one.

I'd watch a buddy cop film with Electro and Harry. Their chemistry was almost as good as Stone's and Garfield's

No it's supposed to be Felicia Hardy, introduced in the clumsiest way ever. Why did she feel she need to tell him all that information already? No development at all and then she reveals everything.

Pretty funny how that came to be. Too bad there wasn't more of their team up after Harry is the Goblin. I would watch a film soley on that, too. Hopefully the Sinister Six movie will be more like this, since Harry seems to be the guy who's leading the group.

Yeah, what the hell was that?

"Hey you, Black Cat, you just happened to be my father's assistant right?"

That was done poorly, she wasn't needed. At least Smythe was the typical A-hole boss, which was a tiny bit better. I guess.

Okay I was confused.. Because when Harry named her I was like "wait, what?"

Yeah she didn't do much. However I can easily see her as black cat in three to help peter/Spider-Man get over Gwen.

That was just a story thread that was left hanging... I was confused by why she was there mostly.
 
Went and saw the Winter Soldier for a repeat viewing with friends last night. Halfway through I popped into The Amazing Spider-man 2 on my way back from the bathroom.

I left moments after Electro slurped up the energy from the monitor in Time Square, and dropped the bass.

At least the butler was inserted in the first film.

And I thought MJ was the biggest villain in the trilogy? I guess they're tied.
 
Is everyone forgetting about that scene when they played that Phillip Phillips song?

We need to remember that scene, it's probably one of the most uncomfortable moment I've had in theater.

If so, when that song came on, everyone in the theater laughed, because we all thought it was a joke. But then it was played over the rest of the scene and we continued to sit confused.
 
I will say that this is another movie that portrays a woman as enjoying having a stalker.

There were a few bits where I turned to my fiancee and shot out a quick lyric from "Every Breath You Take"

Twilight was the first thing that I thought of when Gwen was totally ok with Peter following her many times a day.

What the hell? That sets a creepy precedence.

What a terrible choice of music. It was a montage of him piecing together his parents' past, that didn't need licensed music.

And they tried to edit the movie with the lyrics, as well. I was cringing deeply into my seat.

But then that awesome clockwork tower scene. What's wrong with you Webb?

It's a shame because everything else about their relationship was very natural and believable (setting aside the super powers, of course) but just so odd to add in the stalker angle. I mean I get that people can be obssessed and its "ok" in this case because they were both interested in each other but I would have expected a weird reaction to being watched not a flattered one.
 
Haven't read the thread but I saw this last night. Pretty entertaining though it was longwinded and seemed like it would never end. I thought it was over 3 times before it actually was. Electrode died I thought that was it and Green Goblin and Rhino would be next movie, but then they kind of introduced them here. Felt almost like this was the first movie they were setting up the big Empire Strikes Back sequel. And Gwen dying, not sure how I felt about that.

So anyway, pretty entertaining but not entirely happy with the script or the leisurely setup time for the last 15 min of action. Actually more like 5 min of action, some talking and thinking it's over, 5 more min of action, some talking and then I think it's over again, then action ending in cliffhanger.

The absolute cringiest (not actually a word) part of the movie was when Pete was crossing the road to reunite with Gwen at that fair (?). I wanted to shut my eyes but I couldn't. It was a car crash waiting to happen (pun intended).

You never saw this happen in Raimi's film, guys.

It's funny because you know it's going to happen and you're expecting Spidey to fight Harry, but damn, when it happens, you feel it. Like "Woah, okay, he's taking her, and they're going to fight. Looks like they're really doing this now. Right after Electro's defeat."

It does feel tacked on last moment, and it doesn't help he gets knocked out in a few minutes of the whole thing.

Yeah but Raimi's spidey sucks. Garfield and the writers get my stamp of approval on this spider-man. Say what you will about the scenarios surrounding him or the Peter Parker part of his life but when the suit is on, it's pretty damn close to perfect.

Sure, when Spidey is suited up and kicking ass it's fun to watch. But it doesn't make up for everything else that goes on in the film.

Raimi's Spidey doesn't suck ya'll. He's just different.
 
The scene that made me cringe the most was Max talking to himself, but I was too busy laughing to care. It definitely fell into the it's so bad it's good camp for me.

Max: Spider-Man omg you made this cake for me, just for me?

Max: *deepening his voice to sound like his idea of Spider-Man* Why yes I did Max.

Max: You took time out of you busy day, always saving people just for little ole me?

Max: *Max either does his Spider-Man voice here or is talking to his invisible Spider-Man here- I can't remember* That's why we're best friends.

I'm paraphrasing, but that was that scene in a nutshell.

That's probably what really pisses me off about these movies. How can you perfect Spider-Man and fuck up nearly everything else? It makes it really difficult for me to hate the movies, but the writers and director show a complete disregard for the characters and even for basic plot requirements.

Electro really was the worst part of the movie. A generic bad guy/asshole would have been better than this dreck
 
So I just saw it. I didn't like this movie very much at all. Its as bad or good, as Toby's Spiderman 3. And honestly, now thinking back, I was more entertained in that film.

This movie is boring. Fox is under used. The pacing and flow of the film is bad. The dialogue is bad. The villains were rushed, and I didn't really like Garfield in this at all. It is like Andrew lost all of his charm that he had in the first one. His acting was bad imo here. The best actors imo were Fox, Goblin and Gwen.

People saying they couldn't connect with any of the villains, I agree. People saying the villains had no real motivation to hate Spiderman, I agree.

I score it a 4/10. Yes, a 4

And its a shame since I give the first one an 8.


The best part in this sequel imo is the beginning with his parents on that plane. It was an awesome start to such a rubbish film.

Not gonna lie. I was legit behind Max and really felt sad for him until he just snapped at spider-man when he was really just trying to help. Real villian here is NYPD.

Nah, my issue isn't with Peter Parker, hero syndrome and all that makes him think its ok that he can just be watching people at all kinds of time during the day. The weirdness to me was that Gwen was totally cool with it and wasn't really weirded out at all, seemed unrealistic compared to the rest of their relationship which captured realism fairly well.

You don't remember Raimi's Spider-Man movies well. Peter watches Mary Jane dressing through her window. That's in the first minutes of the first film. Peter is obsessed in all these movies. At least it's consistent.
 
I thought Electro's origin was kind of lazy too. So he gets electrocuted and bitten by those eels, which turns him into Dr Manhattan? I want to know more about those eels. They can't be part of the whole genetic engineering project since that got publicly scrapped for PR reasons, right? If those were "radioactive eels" or whatever, they would have to have been in the secret projects area, right?

Comic book origins man. The eels weren't anything special, he got supercharged, fell into water, and got more supercharged from electric eels. Mix in some circumstance, fate, and luck and you have a new hero or villian.

I think it was clear that they were pretty in love with each other and broke up for complicated reasons that had very little to do with how they felt about each other. She was happy to know he cared enough to keep a look out on her. It's not like he was some random stalker.

Which is why I thought the Oxford university plot was really unnecessary. It added an odd dimension to their relationship - almost as if she was relieved to get the scholarship so she didn't have to put up with any more of Stagnant Pete's problems anymore.

It was just missing the essential part of the "silly comic book origin" formula, though, which is like a microwave emitter aimed at him while it was happening or something like that.

The more they'd try to explain it, the less sense it'll make.

They should've just made him out to be this strange homeless guy that forgot who he is, just wants to eat electricity, then he gets mad at NYPD for shooting at him, Spiderman doesn't like that, locks him up, Harry offers him the best "food" he can find (the power plant) if he can bring him Spiderman.

Boom. You just made the movie 20 minutes shorter, can now further Harry and Peter's relationship, and create a better movie.

And that's the issue, for everything that was good in the movie (and I think there was a lot of good), there was something equally unnecessary. If the audience could just take in 100% that they were still totally in love then the whole stalker thing doesn't really come off as bad, but you also have to accept the Oxford thing because it's in the movie and then Gwen comes more into question because she does seem like she is tired of Peter's problems/stagnation.

I absolutely agree.

Its what I immediately thought when watching it. After that scene, I knew the movie was going to fall way short. Which it did imo anyway.
