Games you remember, names you don't

Arcade game. It was like a two in one cabinet. One game was a fighting game, and the other was a side stroller where you play as a red and blue dude (might have been ninjas), who throw ninja stars. I thought it was made by SNK but I can't find anything about it. Plz help VG historian Gaf.

Ninja combat ?

Could someone help me figure out the name of this arcade (?) game. I've only seen screenshots of it in a really old magazine but it looked like a beat em up similar to Sengoku or Final Fight with large sprites. One of the screenshots showed the characters walking in what looked like clouds and there was a dragon-like enemy emerging from the ground. One of the characters was wearing a robin hood type of hat if I still remember it right.

Well...are you sure its not...uh..sengoku ? Or sengoku 2 ?

I remember I played I game for the Snes that was an rpg where you are a kid who use robots to fight other robots, it was like a merge of pokemon with medabots & final fantasy interface, I don't remember anything, but I think the robot you used was red, but other than that I don't remember anything

Robotrek.

Nope. I always thought it was Sengoku but I don't remember the screenshots looking like that. If only I could find that magazine again

Many dragons to be found here, couldn't find a PIC of the scene you described, but the only side scrolling beat em up I can think of with a robin hood looking character (and dragons) is

King of dragons.

Okay, let me see what I can patch together...

The game was on my school computers during third grade, so... 1995. You were climbing a snowy mountain, and it was covered with piles of snowballs, enemies that could be fought with the snowballs, and treasure that had to be accessed by solving varying math problems by stacking snowballs. Main character was wearing a purple ski jacket, I think... When you got to the top of the mountain, some Big Bad would appear and send you back to the beginning. Having beaten Bubble Bobble (twice, after the first time was solo), I remember being possessed with the idea that I was missing some treasure that would allow me to... I dunno, math the bad guy into submission, I guess. Never figured it out, looking back, it could have been a cheap gameplay loop. Still, always wanted to beat it.

I suspect this'll be one of the Super Solvers games.

(Later addition:) And looking through the range, we have Treasure Mathstorm

Okay, so here's a game I remember reading about a couple years ago or so and I can't remember the name of it:

It's a Japan-only (I think) PS1 SRPG. I believe one of the people who was a lead designer on the Fire Emblem games worked on it, and the game shares many similarities with the Fire Emblem games, especially the Super Famicom ones.

Used to play this as a kid on a TANDY laptop (throwback right?). You were a zookeeper that had to collect different gems to escape the level and these weird bipedal zoo creatures would take a life if you touched them. The main character might have been named Freddy and I remember you can fall from heights and die from fall damage.

It was not in color cause the laptop wasn't color either and i'm guessing it was ASCII graphics

eh, just throwing ideas out there, it's probably not dynamite düx, right? other than that I can think of is Quik & Silva, which are robot bears not penguins. they have to be penguins?

Ok guys, I am very sorry. I watched some videos of Quik & Silva and I was sure it was not the game I mean. But on second sight it kinda reminds me. So maybe it is the one.

But, fret not. Here is another one. Again for the Amiga 500.
You drive a tank from a tabletop view. The map is scrolling up-down (also right-left I think). There are other tanks you can blow up. And there are people, too. I always used to drive them over, so much fun. It would leave a splatterd body behind. If I recall right, you could also blow up buildings. They didn't look like high buildings though. Almost like glass buildings if that makes any sense.

Just in a tank or also on foot. I can think of a few Commando like games where you can get in a tank in places but none where you're just in a tank. i.e. Ikari Warriors, Fernandez Must Die, Leatherneck etc.

What the ? How fast are you? Did you just play the game by coincidence or how did you just remember that?

So, I assume you had an Amiga 500 back in the day, too? I was the only one, I didn't know anybody who had. Everyone had SNES/Sega. It was so lonely, being the only one enjoying these -in comparison- adult/complex games, when other kids talked about mario and sonic. I played sonic 2 and zool at my cousin, though. Tight games and slick console; no question.
You still play Amiga today?

Amiga was the THING during my childhood, well commodore in general. my brother went from c64 to amiga and so did I (basically always got his leftovers so to speak). and Firepower happened to be one of my most played PVP games back in the day! :D so, this one was easy.

I don't own an Amiga anymore. I always tried to get the emulator to work on my mac but somehow they never worked. should be easier now on my pc laptop, though.

Oh yes, that game was addicting. While watching the video I got reminded of the obsession to destroy EVERY building and drive over EVERY person. So satisfying. Even the splatter sound.

About emulating. I hear retroarch is a very good emulator working well across most OS. Maybe you give it a try?

Thanks bro, feels good to talk about amiga games with another person, even if it's more than 10 years later.

Been trying to remember the name of theis PC game, it's a real recent one like it came out in the last 3 years. It's an action RPG I think and you could marry different princesses and one of them was a zombie leader of the undead or something.

That must be Dragon Commander, a pretty unique RTS/RPG hybrid from Larian Studios. It has you choose from several princesses to marry, including an undead one.

I just realized that this thread passed its fifth birthday a few days ago. People who were born when I created this thread are now in kindergarten. And we owe it all to Tokyo Wars.

There was this old two-game arcade cabinet I played in a local pizza place a while ago. One game was a Street Fighter knockoff with even more egregious stereotypes (American black dude was a straight-up football player). The other game was a professional wrestling one, or at least it took place in what looked like a wrestling ring. Both games were pixel based, 2-D.

When my cousins and I were given the prompt to waggle the joystick in the wrestling game, the game completely crashed with what sounded like stock videogame sound effects used in TV shows and the display became corrupted, looking like a dying Atari game's psychedelic pre-death visions.

2 games in one usually means NeoGeo cabinet.
Fighter with football player character sounds like world heroes 2
Being NeoGeo games, I think we can assume wrestling game was 3 count bout

I got a question from someone about a game. The description is:

"There was a game with/about a labyrinth, the goal was to move some colored balls. It is a 2-player game"

The description is prett vague, but i'm pretty sure that it is a NES or a SNES game (i have an ad out where i have some NES and SNES games for sale, and i got this question through the ad). It doesnt ring any bell for me unfortunately.

Marble Madness.

Marble Madness.
Thanks, i'll suggest that game for the person who asked me :) I'm not 100% sure if that is the game though, because i understood it more as that another person/player moved some colored balls, but i might be mistaken. Marble Madness also never came out to NES were i live either, although an import from Germany or France was always possible. It might not even be a NES or SNES game as well, i just assumed that since i was only selling NES and SNES games, and i was asked about a game.

In a similar vein to Marble Madness (ie direct control of the ball) there's also On The Ball for the SNES. It's two player, although not simultaneous.

Thanks :) I did mention both Marble Madness and On The Ball to the person, but unfortunately it wasnt any of those. I also mentioned The Adventure of Lolo for NES, but it wasnt that game either. I got reply that there might have been some human/male figures that pushed some balls through a labyrinth, and you had to think while doing it, so it sounds like some sort of puzzle game.

The person didnt reply to when i asked about which platform the game was on. It might be some obscure Amiga or DOS game that only a "handful" of people have played, which makes it a lot harder to guess. Knowning the specific console/platform would narrow things down quite a bit.

I cannot seem to find the name of this game, or even anything about it, but I remember it having a level editor, and I think it had a level that looked similar to Sonic 1's Marble Zone.
It was a 2D platform game and if I can remember it correctly, it was dark themed.

I would be very happy if anybody is able to find it (BTW, it was on Windows)

Jazz Jackrabbit 2 maybe?

Sounds like a Sokoban clone, but it also might be something like Atomix?
Yeah, i was thinking about if it could be a game like that. I think i found the game. Its called Rockball:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyoYRmazYpE

Kinda lucky that i found it (if this is the correct game that is). I was thinking about unlicensed NES games, and i thought of a game that is called Magic Blocks. I checked on Youtube, but i saw that this wasnt the game. Then i saw Rockball in "related videos", which is also created or published by the same guys who made Magic Blocks, and Rockball seems to fit the description very well. Both these games were also sold where i live from what i know. Thanks for the tip about Sokoban and Atomix regardless :)

EDIT: I got a reply from the person now and the game was indeed Rockball.

Okay, this is a game thats not even out yet but I can't remember the name to get more info about it.

The only way I know how to describe it is that it looks like a really stylized 3rd person Megaman game.

I believe its indie.

Help?

This is kind of related but when I was a lot younger I stumbled across "Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow" on GBA. I told my mom that I really wanted to play that game so she ended up buying it secretly and giving it to me for my birthday.
I opened it up so god damn excited and popped that shit in my SP......only to find out that this game was not "Castle Wolfenstein" which I learned the name of later :p

But hey! Now I love Castlevania to death and went back to play every game in the series. I also eventually got around to playing Wolfenstein (I had only seen images for it in magazines), and now they both share a special place in my heart.

Heheh, cool story, got introduced to a completely different series and came to love them both. :D

I'm wondering if you mean Cloudbuilt (I think some people maybe compared it to Megaman)?
