RUMOR: Project Beast (From Software/Sony Japan Studio, PS4) [Port begging = ban]

I am playing Shadow Tower Abyss to deal with this unprecedented level of hype. It's helping. I highly recommend it as soothing entertainment to pass the time for the long ride aboard the Ancient Hype Train Vanguard. May we could do a Let's Play, LTTP, or something like that..?

...

The lineage between the KF/ST/Souls series' is no secret - it is blatantly obvious, right down to some of the fonts. If you are on this train, you must give STA a go. Scratches the itch real good. It gives a nice glimpse of gun play and setting as it may manifest in some ways in Beast. Let it quench the thirst a bit, travelers. A quality train ride needs refreshments!

never played that, is it relatively easy to find? I was also thinking about going back and replaying Demons Souls as well.

Do we think E3 or will they let Dark Souls 2 sit a bit longer?

That was probably the reason Demonite was wrong about it being on TGS, now that Dark Souls 2 is out, no reason to hold back. If it was a Kadokawa/Namco game, I can see them still wanting to hold back, but Sony has no reason to care about Dark 2 sales.

Every time I come here this thread is the top of the first page. 5,809 Replies, 1,029,529 views in less that 48 hours? Pretty popular then. :)

I think what happens is that some people think everyone who cares about 60fps is part of the same "30FPS IS A SLIDESHOW" team. I do care what the framerate is, I care a lot, but if Project Beast is a 20~30fps game, I'll still buy a PS4 to play it day one, I'll pre-order the game and even consider a collector's edition.

Who else's would it be? lol

So it's either Beast Something or Bloodborne then.

Never ever reply with a lol at the end of a post to Respawn youngling.

Fair enough. Likewise I think anyone who prefers visuals over playability is at fault for more and more developers favoring that route. I suppose we'll simply have to disagree here.

Aren't the souls games built around being 30fps? Didn't taking Dark Souls PC to 60fps cause problems? (I'm not sure if I'm remembering that right lol). The From souls games have never been about the frame rate, and were built around being completely playable at 30fps. Not every game needs to be 60 fps, I feel 60 fps is basically necessary for FPS, Racing and Fighting games, but not as much for a game like Dark Souls. It would be a nice thing to have, but for a game like this it's not gonna make or break the game.

So if this is successfully, will it be one of playstations big successes of this gen? Will it be come a major franchise for sony?

Definitely a megaton for GAF. In terms of sales/success, who knows, the Souls series still seems to be growing in popularity (dat word of mouth) and I'm guessing nobody is exactly sure where it will peak.

Pretty much and From got their money already from Namco so its not their problem basically. Namco has to push its own product more if they want it to sell. Of course the obvious is From needs to support it with patches and whatnots, but for the most part From got their money already.

Talking visuals or performance priority is a moot point right now. It's a new system with a lot of power under the hood, assuming the game is well optimised I'm sure both criterias will be achieved. After all they only have to worry about one console and Sony will put a lot of effort behind it since its definitely seen as a system seller.

Seconded. Similarly, when Dark Soul 2 hit on PC, I wished we could have had a PS4 version that simply ran like that. If it had, I would have been ecstatic. The nice thing about this is they won't be tied by legacy hardware, and to your point, only have to worry about a single set of hardware.

I don't think the games NEED to be 60 fps. In fact Demon's Souls is still my favorite Souls game despite it targeting 30. Dark Souls 2 is my least favorite even though it has a completely stable 60fps option. But the framerate has nothing to do with that. Design and framerate are separate issues and no game will be worse off for simply playing at 60fps over 30.

You're right, Dark Souls does run into a small few issues when played at 60fps because it wasn't designed by the development staff to do so. Dark Souls 2 was however and because of that it controls and feels much better at 60fps than it does at its choppy console framerate. I played both versions day 1 and know which I prefer. This isn't a matter of wanting them to compromise the game for framerate, it's simply preferring a higher one over a lower one, which by some people's reactions you would think was heresy.

Completely agree. The final battle with Grigori was one of my favourite boss fights of last gen. I loved the bit when you mount his back and the camera shifts perspective to emphasise the speed.

Still can't believe Capcom didn't announce a sequel already. Even a PS4/PC version of Dark Arisen would be pretty awesome for a decent framerate, I'd easily triple dip.

I wonder if its because the team behind DD is working on Deep Down?

I do wonder what engine they going to be using either way i hope they get some tech help from Sony .

I'm sure they will, but as evidenced by the PC version of DaS2, they've got a pretty solid engine in place that should port over nicely to the PS4 hardware. I'm sure it'll receive more features on top of that.

For the niche/hardcore crowd, yes. It will never come close to touching beasts like Uncharted/other NG games or God of War, but it could sell 2 million it would be quite the success. It's also part of variety both in terms of target market and their library.

I can't wait until E3, this better be shown!

Over a million views.
As far as I'm concerned this is the best news Sony could have announced for the hardcore this summer beating the likes of The Last Guardian etc.

Nah. While this news is big, a Last Guardian re reveal with release date will destroy project beast hype wise.

Somehow I doubt that since Id see it as the "souls" fanbase is far larger than whatever Team Ico had in general.

Holy shit this thread moves fast. I apologise for the potential derail, but did Verendus actually catch a perm or is that a bad case of NeoGAF telephone? I remember it being brought up at the same time with FM's ban, so I just wanted to be sure.

GAF telephone as no one would know if he got perm'd or not asides from the mods. So anything said by a normal member of the community (not confirmed by a mod) basically is to be taken with a grain of salt. Which then leads to massive derailings on the subject...

So, where Project Beast would sit on that list?

  1. Philosoma 2
  2. Motor Toon GP 4
  3. Gunners Heaven 2
  4. Legend of Dragoon 2
  5. Wild Arms 6
  6. Arc the lad next
  7. Thousand Arms
  8. Minna No Golf PS4
  9. Crash Bandicoot 4
  10. Omega Boost 2
  11. The Order: 1886
  12. Uncharted (PS4)
  13. DriveClub
  14. SFV
  15. Castelvania 2D made by Arc system work
  16. Goemon 2D made by Arc system work
  17. Twinbee shoot 2D made by housemarque

From the way I see. If the account has no avatar attached = perma ban... if you still can see the avatar is temp ban.

You see wrong, that isn't true.

Love how people immediately assume the worst when someone is banned when they have no idea if the member in question was repeatedly banned for trolling or whatever.

what if Namco released Souls II on PS4/X1 the same day Beasts comes out!

Imagine that they won't show this game at E3. GAF's servers would explode beyond repairs.

Evillore and Sony have an agreement to leak massive games so GAF's servers can handle the load.

I'm curious if this is a direct sequel to Demon's Souls if From would choose a definitive ending to that game. Much like Dark Souls the two are kind of at complete odds with each other.

The hunger for Demons Souls 2 was real, I thought only were few that wanted a new DS

Demons Souls 2: The Beast.

Praise the Beast....!!!

As much as I liked Dark Souls II it left me unsatisfied. There was just something off about that game. Demon's Souls and Dark Souls were way more captivating. The games had a more memorable story, better art direction, better (more terrifying) enemy designs and bosses, and superior level design. All in all, Dark Souls II was a pretty forgettable experience imo.

Can't believe how much impact Miyazaki has on this series...

I didn't purchase DaSII so Im super thirsty for a new Souls type game. I am surprised those people that have are already ready for a new one. Personally as much as I love the Souls I will not support yearly entries, only the every other year one. Don't want to get franchise fatigue and I don't feel the Souls games are immune to it either.

I really hope this trend of using "thirst", to describe one's desire for a game, continues

Its the same way like when a book for example, the series is the same but the author is different. So its no real surprise how someone like Miyazaki can have an influence on a game series.
