RUMOR: Project Beast (From Software/Sony Japan Studio, PS4) [Port begging = ban]

From Soft really needs a big break with Armored Core in the west like what they accomplished with Demon's/Dark.If they ever manage to do this (especially now that they have Kadokawa's money to back them up with bigger budgets) i can see them getting (in the future) as big as Square Enix now is.
They just need another big international break IMO.

Its funny with how they redesigned the game with that in mind, but it still didnt seem to work. The major point with the previous titles was the entry bar was way too high.

They went and lowered it pissing off old time fans and not really getting a lot of newer ones into the genre.

Kinda makes me wonder where they are going to take one of my favorite series. In my eyes personally it has been slowly going backwards over a long period of time. But thats just me from being the old school PS1 version - Project Phantasma = the peak of the series. Though some of the fights you could have in the PS2 titles were pretty insane such as this is a personal favorite.

The average player just cant keep up with all the movements and general situational awareness required to play at this level let alone control their unit correctly.

My main problem with where the series went in some ways was that they automated many of the actions, overly simplified the HUD and also kept on taking away from melee users in general with the games design. It was done to make things easier of course for people to get into the series, but Im just one of those who prefer the older type of design.

Im surprised they havent rebooted chrome hounds personally with how popular that was in the West for whatever reason. In Japan AC always stood higher with popularity.

That's just retail, PS3 version probably had a few tens of thousands more digital copies sold in NA.

Also, if I had to make a wild guess, the PC version could wind up doing similar numbers to the 360 worldwide.
Do we know how much DS1 sold on PC?

I think that the DkS2 team are going to work on a next gen Armoured Core. Its there next big IP, the DkS2 team is mainly compromised from people who made those games as well.
Is it wrong that I want to see them spinoff the IP in different genres ala Persona 4? Give me a tile based dungeon explorer for handhelds, or a kart racer. :V

They will never become SE (I don't think anyone can tbh, closest is probably Capcom)

FF13 alone has probably outsold the entire Souls series.

SE is an IP POWERHOUSE. KH, FF and DQ are by themselves already the some of the biggest RPG's in gaming. Add to that their history, and stuff like TR and Deus Ex.

That looks insane.....insanely fun. I think in the West graphics play a sizeable part unless you have a decent fan base.

I really have no excuse for not trying out Armored Core after seeing this

Welp... That's the true definition of skill.

One interesting thing is the play styles really differ between the East and West. West seems to prefer sticking to the ground more where the East is almost up in the air most of the time.

You will have to play the titles previous to V + Verdict Day as the games design totally changed in those.

Welp... That's the true definition of skill.

Asides from the missiles and such too, the weapons dont auto track as much which really makes it about how well you can maneuver your unit. Then the issue of conserving your ammo and not just trying to spam as many shots as possible, as if you do that you can run out pretty quick depending on what you are loaded out with.

I used to be one of the more vicious blade users back in my prime and would make folks literally run totally out of ammo then finish them off with the blade. It was all I was equipped with anyways, but man did that piss off folks. Im terrible at the Gundam Vs. game for example donkey and the rest of gundam gaf can attest for that, but AC was one that just sat well with me for whatever reason ever since I got into it back when the JP version first came out on the PS. lol

Its nice too not having all the extra junk loading you down weight wise and energy consumption as all of that is calculated in when you boost and such I do believe it was?

If you folks want to see some really scary shit someone had made AI for AC: for Answer.

That is a AI for ACFA called "Rhinemaiden". "She",installed in pc, analyzes the packet of online play of acfa and makes the input to the controller of ps3, separated from pc.

View from the AI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltUddSMTMQs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVj2tu7SW0Q

View from what it would look like if you were the poor bastard facing off against her.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cli0VduKPpE

As you can see the boosting timing and target tracking is pretty much inhuman expected of AI calculations.

Alright GAF, whatever game Project Beast is, and whatever its final title ends up being, what is the earliest month, within reason, in which the game could be released on PS4 ?(i.e. March 2015)

Also, what would be a likely broader release window / timeframe ? (i.e. anywhere in 2015 all the way to say, spring 2016)

There is a chance it could release this year. Not a big one but I wouldn't utterly rule it out.

If I had to make a blind guess I would say autumn 2015.

I don't think they would release a game in the same year they announce it (did Sony ever do that since the 7th generation)?

True, but apparently this was meant to be announced at TGS 2013. Although I think they don't want to have two Souls games in the same year.

Gotta go with Spring 2015 as a safe bet. As an outside chance I'd say late 2014 (hoping!)

so if this was supposed to be first shown at TGS'13, how brilliant of a move was it to delay it to next E3? Sony has been selling every PS4 they can make, they didn't really need a surprise exclusive revealed last year. Now to have it at this E3 is gonna give them a huge boost.

October 2015, worldwide release. Extremely limited closed beta September 2015

Dark Souls was released October 2011 and Demon's Souls was released October 2009 (In North America)

Im going to go with the high risk choice and say October-December 2014.

I really don't understand why more people don't buy Armored Core games. Especially after the Souls games raised awareness about From Software's name.

Its because its not exactly friendly to new players, that and the level of those who are still online totally destroy anyone new to the genre causing them to leave quickly lol. Its basically a high bar of entry. Most folks that dabble in it suddenly write it off as "clunky" due to not learning anything about how the game works.

If it was really ready to be shown at last year's TGS then it could be further along in development than the lack of an official announcement would suggest.

Fighting and strategy games seem to suffer from this to some extent as well, yet they seem to do fine sales-wise.

I would like to think that this is going to be one of their killer items on the E3 floor which is why it was kept under such tight wraps. If they want to further kill it out there, then most def releasing this before / during the holiday rush would be the way to go.

May/June 2015.
Earlier month of next year are for Uncharted/MMolecule/Project Morpheus

About 4 month before release I think.

Yeah I remember it being close. I'm hopping for holiday 2014/ spring 2015. I don't think dark souls 2 being out this year have anything to do with it, when Sony is publishing and dark souls 2 didn't even bother to show up on ps4.

Still holding out on a dark souls 2 ps4 edition though too.

early 2015. February, maybe March.

The thing is those games are a lot easier to hop into and play. AC has a ton of shit you really need to learn. Parts, energy consumption, weight, how each weapon works etc. Then the next half which is actually controlling your core correctly.

I'm hoping for a 2014 release, but If they still are calling it "Project Beast" then probably it's still way off.

Or maybe the info we have is from the supossed reveal on last year's TGS.

This thread reminds me of how useless most of Sonys devs are, almost none of them generate this much hype. Naughty dog is the exception.

According to Verendus the captures are a couple of months old. Last year DemonNite also said TGS would be one "beast" of a show. So this indeed could have been intended for 2013's TGS.

My guess for the timeline:

E3: First trailer
TGS: New trailer, Title announcement, [possibly beta phase Nov/Dec]
Feb/Mar 2015: Release the Beast!

Souls series games already have a large established fan base and Sony doesn't seem adverse to announcing games from established franchises close to their release dates.

I suppose they're comparable to Paradox games then, in the sense that toning down their complexity/sim elements would only serve to alientate their established niche, and ruin their unique appeal. The customization/sim aspects are a big part of what makes AC what it is. From might be better off building a new IP from the ground-up if they want to take a shot at a mech game with wider appeal.

The reason too why I believe its this year as with how Sony has been very aggressive with its marketing in general esp with the PS4 and showing a lot more support for the Vita right off the bat, its whats pushing my belief that to keep the momentum up they will release the game in 2014 also.

Could be wrong, but its all part of the guessing game! :D

It doesnt matter really as From got their money anyways. Sony didnt publish Dark Souls 2 so its not like they need to be around to get more sales. If anything there will be bleed over from either or title with those buying whatever this game is buying DS2 after or those who bought DS2 will buy this game. It works out as the setting apparently from what we can guess from the shots posted up is different enough to both exist.

Its more something for BanNam to worry about and work on if they want to keep sales going.

Interesting this thread is like 14th? in place for the most views overall in the gaming section.

This thread reminds me of how useless most of Sonys devs are, almost none of them generate this much hype. Naughty dog is the exception.

Hype doesn't translate to sales. This thread is 4x bigger than the COD one and yet COD will still outsell this game on a single platform. I'm sure if GT got leaked the thread wouldn't be anywhere near as big as this is, but it would still sell ~10 million copies.

Hype also isn't determined by the quality of the game if you check out the metacritic. Hype = vocal fans shouting.

I know hype doesn't translate to sales, but many of them are very bad at generating hype. Drive club and 1800 are recent examples.

Feb/Mar 2015: Release the Beast!

I hope for a smal demo at Sony's conference.
Oh and you forgot VGX (i can see it being there since DSII was announced at VGA).

It's going to be a Spring launch imo.

e3 announcement
TGS full trailer

maybe a beta in the fall
release in Feb-April 2015.

Sony isn't going to let this get outshined by The Order and Destiny. 2 titles they are putting alot of money on. A Spring release would be a nice way to let this get some breathing room.

edit: well dude said the same thing above lol

I would happily buy a PS4 for a souls games IF it were 60FPS. Everyone who played souls on console and PC knows that it is not the same game at a stable 60FPS framerate as the stuttering mess which it is on console. And that is for a game which is so competitive...so yeah, I'm fine with PS4 only, but make it 60FPS.

Just make it stable 30 and I'm good.

Souls PvP competitive?

Hardy fucking har.

Try the netcode if you want to make it somewhat competitive.

60 FPS
It's going to be a long generation for people who expect 60 fps on consoles consistently outside of the few genres that demand it. Developers will opt for visual fidelity/image quality over frame rate in most instances.

A locked 30 fps would be a considerable improvement over their previous efforts

And a major downgrade for everyone who enjoyed Souls on PC. So yeah...I'm not happy about that rumor I must say. If From proved anything in the past then that they can do beautiful art and atmosphere, but they pretty much don't give a shit for tech, especially framerate. It's a hardcore game for the hardcores, so why not provide maximum playability and take a dump on shadow res or tesslation or whatever, if necessary...we'll see.
