Amplitude (Harmonix) PS3/PS4 - KS (Funded, final day)

$755K. What?

Seriously. That seems a bit excessive for this. They have a good deal of engine work already done obviously and they are mostly touting it as a "remake" of those mechanics. I don't really see the need for a PS3 version at this point either. It just inflates the cost.

Oh well. I'll probably pledge anyway. I did love Frequency.

Oh man. Have to be in for this. But it also makes me furious that they aren't doing Vita, too It would be a perfect game to play all the time.

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh

I think this is the first Playstation exclusive Kickstarter title I've seen. Peculiar.

There was Sportsfriends too. They pushed that through twitter and their blog, but even that has an upcoming PC version.

So many peculiarities make this the most bizarre Kickstarter attempt I've ever seen.

If this game is going to be exclusive to Sony platforms, and by a big studio like this, either Harmonix or Sony should be funding it.

This seems like a really, really weird kickstarter. I don't feel comfortable putting money behind this.

Licensing music is expensive.

Not backing even though I love Amplitude and Frequency. Seems like a weird cash-grab from a multi-million dollar company.

The game would have cost $15 or $20 anyways once it's up to download, no?

It's not like this is one of those kickstarters where the backing options that actually give you the game are well above its future retail price.

Just to make sure I understand this correctly: http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/05/05/amplitude-reboot-announced-for-playstation-4-ps3

1.) This is Sony's IP, so it's exclusive to Sony platforms.

2.) Sony isn't funding it.

3.) Despite having a multi hundred million dollar payout from Viacom and multiple venture capitalists/angel investors backing them over time, they need to do a kickstarter for $775,000 to fund a game in an IP they don't own that the IP owner refuses to fund themselves.

This is... one of the odder kickstarters I've seen I've got to be honest.

If I had to guess, the conversation with Sony went like this:

"Can we make a new Amplitude?"

"Do what you want, but you gotta pay for it."

"Sold!"

The third part is the tricky one, though. I can't figure that out, other than this is to show proper proof of interest.

I can only imagine that Sony had no interest, because of shrinking sales in the genre and this Kickstarter might be a way to prove to Sony that there is still interest and then they probably fund the rest.
Otherwise this is very odd lol

Im surprised sony didnt pick it up considering harmonix guy even featured in the feb ps4 reveal creator showreel. And almost all of them are making something ps exclusive.
Doesn't Sony own the licence? So they would've had to atleast given their OK to this game.

Backing because 15 dollar for this game in EU is a great price. It would probably be double that at launch over here.

Anyway the real reason I hope this succeeds is so Sony and Harmonix team up on a Parappa KS later on down the road.

Gotta believe.

It isn't. At all.

KS has muddied people's understanding of game budgets. The low amounts are why delivered games are often barebones, unfinished, missing features, re-kickstarted or delayed while they find additional funding.

Yes and dosent this game need to licensed songs? Thats not cheap.

This is a gross idea.

Not the idea of a new PaRappa, I've wanted that for years, desperately. But I mean Harmonix making it. Gross.

weird kickstarter with Harmonix having money and it being a playstation exclusive anyways. They should be able to get that money elsewhere, but if people give it to them why not take it.

the goal seems too high, maybe overestimating this IP a bit... we'll see I guess.

I don't see how harmonix benefits from this either, doing all the work and funding but somebody else owns everything anyway, that just goes against why everyone goes to kickstarter in the first place, lol.

I need $100 million to make a Squirrel Girl movie.

I don't own the rights and Marvel don't want to make it, but I hope you guys will fund me.

I don't understand why they need the Amplitude IP for this. Can't they just call it Wavelength or something? People will know what it means.

Although the biggest problem for me is that current and previous generation controllers aren't going to be very good for this - you really need the three digital shoulder buttons the PS2 controller had.
