RUMOR: Project Beast (From Software/Sony Japan Studio, PS4) [Port begging = ban]

Honestly out of the three souls games it's the best. It's the most well paced, has well thought out systems, the best environments of any souls game, best lore, best art design, and the best bosses.

Funny, my feelings towards DeS are the exact opposite while compared to Dark Souls

The only thing it doesn't have is a ~metroidvania~ environment but neither does the majority of Dark Souls.

I thought Dark Souls was the better game exactly for the reasons you describe DeS being better. :p

So far I've played about 20 hours of DSII and I still think DS1 is better.

In terms of the "feel" of the games in the series, I always felt that Demon's Souls was more grey and bleak, while Dark Souls and now Dark Souls II are more colorful but ruined and decayed. I prefer the aesthetics of Demon's Souls so I hope this turns out to be more like that.

Hop to it!

Anyone who missed Demons is no true fan of the series.

That's what makes these salt posts more hilarious.

I have owned every Sony system, its just I never really got excited about Demon Souls when it came out even though a few of my friends loved it. I wont be buying Project Beast either, so dont worry.

Ive never played any of the Souls games, I was put off by it being more for the hardcore gamers with its difficulty (I remember being told Demon Souls was extremely tough). I may have enjoyed that when I had more time and enjoyed playing games for hours on end but I can rarely do that these days.

Im not fussed. I like reading this thread but I dont want to play the game. It is funny to read the salty comments.

I will prefer if The Last Guardian gets announced at e3, but I am not going to stop everyone in this thread from having fun.

Don't let the emphasis on difficulty be a deterrent, and I would suggest you still give the game a shot. It's really a remarkable game. In fact, I would go so far as to say that the predecessor to the Souls series, the King's Field games, were harder than anything the Souls offers. Especially at the start of the game.

In King's Field II and IV, you can die literally 10 seconds into the game.

In Dark Souls 2, if you really are afraid of difficulty you can always summon other players to help you, or set up a summon sign to help other players (dieing while aiding others has little consequence.)

I'm up to Iron Keep in DS2 and I'd rank it.

Demon's Souls > Dark Souls 2 > Dark Souls 1.

Everything Dark Souls 2 missteps at I find is better in Demon's Souls than Dark Souls, and what Dark Souls 2 gets right I like better than the other two games.

(Keep in mind all three games are like, the bestest things ever.)

I actually can't pick one of the two. Iove both because they share gameplay elements but also for each one's individual uniqeness.
And Beast while sharing the gameplay elements of the series, looks different again compared to the previous two.

PS: I request passage in each new train :P

Having recently platinumed Demon Souls, I agree wholeheartedly with this opinion.

I never played Demon Souls....feel like Im missing out on this hype train....

Once I felt like I was done gaming on my 360 (as in, played all that I wanted to play on it) I traded it for a PS3 just to play Demon's Souls. It was TOTALLY worth it. Seriously, if Sony has this game locked in as an exclusive, I'll definitely be getting a PS4.

If Miyazaki is going to keep reiterating on his idea of whatever genre you want to call the Kings Field / Shadow Tower / Souls series with his own crew, then I really just want FROM's other Souls team to try and push the online nature of Dark Souls 2 to it's logical endpoint: A Dark Souls MMORPG (although DS2 kinda is already one.)

logical? takes away the whole point of the series.

While I agree with you, I think Odrion is making reference to the interconnectivity of Lordran. The issue here, though, is that it's pretty clearly stated that the direct interaction of worlds doesn't actually happen.

I just finished the first Dark Souls and tonight I started Demon's Souls (my second time starting, the first time I got invaded and had all my weapons and armor broken a few hours in so I stopped playing at the time).
I would hate to see this series turned into a goddamn MMORPG. MMORPGs need to die.

I would call it an dark fantasy explorative RPG. That doesn't particularly mean an MMO. In fact, is there any MMO that can emphasize the idea of basic fear for what's around the corner like From's games often do? What makes their games so fascinating is that they intimidate the player that most typical games fail to do.

You then bring up a whole series of uh ohs. An MMO could just as easily fall into the feeling of being cheap and bullshitty like Dark Souls II falls into due to some very abysmal hitboxes. It sounds disastrous.

If From Software pulls something as stupid as this I'm completely done with them. I'm not going to buy a PS4 because of them. If they do this I'm going to boycott every single one of their products. I won't support them even if I happened to buy a PS4 at some point.

That's fine by me. From Soft owes you nothing and they can make games with whomever they please. They are not the property of players of any single platform and the idea that they should 'belong' to one simply because someone has an irrational hatred of another is absolutely disgusting. Go ahead and boycott - you are in the far minority.

Increased focus on multiplayer elements is the future for Dark Souls. It'll be good to have two teams generating two different types of games, rather than one being forced to mimic the other (and being slapped with insulting tags like 'the b-team').

See? He gets it.

I'm not saying butcher it into something like TESO. I think DS2 has shown a lot of potential of how a large online world can work once you stop trying to clone WOW. Just take those elements and roll with it.

Everquest 1.

The King's Field series pulls no punches. People that thought Demon's Souls was cold blooded have no clue, this is the kinder, gentler From we're dealing with now.

That damn Passage of Death in King's Field II (III in Japan) is one of the most unforgiving areas in gaming.

I hate that term too. It's insulting considering the "B-Team" made a damn good game and I highly doubt any of the people throwing that word around can do any better.

I gave up on King's Field III, which strangely enough, reminds me a lot of Dark Souls II. It has more linear level design and seems to lack a feeling of interconnectivity that the previous games (King's Field II and Dark Souls) had with their environments. The plots were also laid bare more directly to the player!

I should get around to finishing that and Eternal Ring.

Go finish it. Still a great entry in the series, and that feeling when you first throw a shockwave at someone with the Moonlight Sword is too good.

(For those unfamiliar, the Moonlight Sword, or Greatsword as it's known in Dark Souls had the special attack even back in the PlayStation days.)

Alright, someone add me in again, I'm too lazy this time :3

Add me too if you want.

Also they really need an easier way to play the old FROM games other than hunting them down on Ebay. What I'd do for a Kings Field + Shadow Tower collection.

I was on the train, but God Gaf decided to wipe me away too.
(Someone please add poor Gaben. I work and I don't have time right now.)

Also, based on this thread, we will need at least a 4k picture of a train to have enough space to hold all the fans who want to hop onto the actual e3 hype train. The road to this e3's gonna be glorious.

that hype train is a fucking mess, it's literally driving into a blackhole

I love how stupid/funny people get here lol it's going to be an interesting E3

IMO, Dark Souls 2 gets the online interactions perfect, in that I don't have to worry much about invasions in most areas or until NG+(I'm only past the first primal bonfire). But otherwise, teaming up is quick and easy. PvP/MMO has zero interest for me, so I'm sure I won't play NG+, but that's fine. Anyone interested in that sort of gameplay is the exact type of person who is min/maxing and naturally drawn towards refining their builds, and so I don't have to deal with them for the majority of the time.

Time to go record some Shadow Tower Abyss lol (dont mind the Busin titles being in the pic, those were for another thread)

The forced story in DS2 was horrible. Why would you want more?

Story should definitely be kept minimal. That's the one thing I love about Demon's. You get your story by talking to NPC's, and reading weapon/item info. The lore of Demon's is amazing because it's told in that manner including level design and atmosphere, really gets you engrossed into the setting. Shouldn't fix what's not broken.
