Nintendo E3 2014 - discussion thread for their E3 plans

The only 2015 Wii U game that has captured my interest so far is Zelda. 2014 is going to be awesome if all the games make their release dates. Yarn Yoshi, SMTxFE and Hyrule Warriors all seem to be TBA still for NA. X is slated for this year worldwide but we haven't seen more then like 40 seconds of footage and none since the new year.

Hyrule Warriors has to really sell me, I haven't played a musou game yet and the trailer was underwhelming. I don't like SMT (mostly because battles are in first person and I know I'm weird) so unless the gameplay is like Fire Emblem that's a no buy for me. Yarn Yoshi looks like a Kirby's Epic Yarn clone which is awesome.

Basically my point is, if Nintendo really is planning on keeping the Wii U alive, this E3 better spill the goods on release dates for 2014 and games coming in 2015 with actual footage, and new games not even announced yet (NFP, Star Fox, Metroid, F-Zero, something new?).

We got like 2 minutes of pure gameplay for X in February, man.

...sigh.. I dont know..I really dont know.

Yeah but I want like story details, doll combat, English language voices and text, see how the UI works, etc. And an official title would be nice. Is it Xenoblade 2 (That Shulk character?) or maybe a Xenoblade with a subtitle just so people who missed out on it for the Wii don't get confused? Is it all new? Xeno for sure will be in it.

Xenodoll?
Xenowar?
Xenosphere?

It's a new IP and spiritual successor to Xenoblade hence the gameplay system. It will obviously be named XenoTrigger, Xenogears 2, or Xenosaga 4.

Wouldn't be surprised if we got more footage at E3. KOSMOS/T-ELOS JP VA is voicing one of the characters though judging by one of the character's voices in the gameplay footage.

I think it would be best to be patient since Takahashi has yet to disappoint me.

You'll see plot snippets when they feel it is right to show it off.

I'm expecting E3 will be the first story trailer for X (also revealing the name), then they'll launch the official site with awesome looping music.

We'll start getting a lot of information at that point.

I still think X is going to be 2015 despite the release calendar (I never trust those), and as a result will probably be glossed over for the most part.

There's no reason to think it will miss 2014 unless you believe development has gone completely sour in the past few months.
i hope they dont spend much time on E3 for QoL and figures...
They don't do sales figures anymore and Iwata said QoL would be much later this year

I seriously need release dates, really hope Hyrule Warriors is this summer, even September would be fine.

I agree. I picked up Warriors Orochi 3: Hyper and I like the gameplay well enough but i have no idea what going on because it has so many characters and each one has an extensive backstory and social interactions with the others.... I'm kinda lost.

Hyrule Warriors will have that gameplay with a story that I'll be able to keep track of.

Strategic placement (plus a little extra polish never hurts, but it might just be sat on). Just like the DK delay. They need to make sure they have games lined up and maintain at least some semblance of momentum, I figure this or Bayonetta is going to be pushed back. No particular reason why I think it would be X over Bayonetta, just seems more likely to me.

I mean, I doubt they have enough games lined up to cover the first half of next year decently and release 6 games (Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta, X, Smash Bros, NFC game, other/gamepad game) between E3 and Christmas. Or maybe they do and I'm just wrong.

do you guys think Nintendo will talk about their plan with the licencing of the properties during E3 Iwata said during the Q&A that it wasn't the time to talk about that, so maybe during E3 I bring this up because I think the launch of the NFP figures should be in conjunction with a TV show or something

Imagine a Smash Bros esque platformer where you start off with a default selection of characters and you can buy different characters NFC figures from different Nintendo IP to add to the game and each character comes with its own themed levels? A bit like NintendoLand. A central hub with other games etc you can add. What if the NFC game that uses the gamepad is NintendoLand 2? :p

I don't think development is really the issue. Nintendo has delayed products in the past just because they had nothing in the months leading up to their next major release. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case with X. I would love for it to have a 2014 release, but my gut is telling me it will be a Spring 2015 release.

Ehhhh, they could do, but I doubt it. Maybe if they had a 90 minute press conference they could use shit like that as filler, but they don't so I wouldn't expect it.

Those kind of deals usually get announced out of the blue.

Probably not much. Most noteworthy products like a movie or a TV show will probably be announced by whatever company is creating/producing it and not Nintendo. And merchandise isn't really worth advertising at E3.

I would rather they didn't to be honest the more they concentrate on the games the better the though occurred to me because it's something both Microsoft and Sony have done before

Sony and MS both have interests in the TV/music market so that's why those always seem to come up in some variety at press conferences. (Well, that and Mattrick thinking the Xbox should be a set-top box, but whatever.) So you'll probably never see Nintendo talk too much about that, if at all

The Digital Event will feature mostly games I assume.

IP licensing, QoL etc. aren't subjects that belong in a more consumer targeted broadcast.

I'm honestly not sure if that's her or a sound-alike. Have you seen Noragami? I think Maaya Uchida, who voices Hiyori, is voicing the pigtail girl (or it could be a sound-alike, once again).

Didn't Iwata at one point last night say Nintendo will become more of an entertainment company ?
Yes. But that doesn't mean E3 is the right venue to talk about IP licensing, other entertainment products, QoL or whatever. If they have those, they will pick another time and/or place to talk about those endaevors. I mean, Sony has plans to step into the real estate business. But I don't think they will discuss those kinds of plans at E3.

Nintendo doesn't make games. Nintendo creates "experiences".
Ugh.

If there's one buzzword I absolutely detest, it's "experiences". You hear me Nintendo, Sony, MS and whatever? Just stop using it.

I don't remember reading that.

In any case glad to be unbanned again. I'm happy to see that people are getting hyped for the event just like in recent years. I'm actually quite hopeful that this year we will get a good show from Nintendo.

Hehe yeah. I remember when Nintendo called Wii U tech demos "experiences". Well I guess technically they are but no need to reinvent the vocabulary.

....goddammit my hype for E3 just skyrockted.

Anyone else think Nintendo isn't going to advertise X because it doesn't' really fit in with their current marketing campaign?

A big ad campaign? No, it probably won't because Nintendo rarely does that outside of their major franchises. I doubt it will be much more in size and scope than what they did with Bravely Default.
