Nintendo E3 2014 - discussion thread for their E3 plans

They better advertise everything they got. "Marketing campaign" be damned.
I think their "Save Money At All Costs" mentality is kinda hurting 'em. The W101 only got 1 commercial... in Germany. No where else.

As sad as it is to say, they probably won't.

I'm thinking back to last E3 with FFXV's trailer, how Watch Dogs stole the show the year before that... and basically a lot of next-gen marketing in general.

Does Nintendo have the guts (or money) to say "This new game (X) is relevant and a big deal because we say it is?" That's seems like a pretty effective way to target the 16-30 demographic from what we've seen, even if Nintendo never tries to specifically target them.

A big ad campaign? No, it probably won't because Nintendo rarely does that outside of their major franchises. I doubt it will be much more in size and scope than what they did with Bravely Default.

Yeah... man... :-/

I mean, they can do that, but it's pretty niche and on a console that not many people have. If anything, I feel as most of their marketing for the Wii U will be for Mario Kart and eventually Smash Bros. It really depends on if Nintendo sees any value in pushing a title such as X. I can't recall them pushing any of their titles with heavy marketing campaigns on the Wii U so what it comes down to is that it will be no different for X.

Edit: I can see Nintendo dedicating a Direct to X though!

Nintendo wont make a pre rendered cutscene and call it ingame graphics. They will show unfinished visuals that looks inferior compared to what the actual game is going to look like when they come out. Go look at Pikmin 3, Skyward Sword, Tropical Freeze or some other Nintendo E3 trailer and compare it to the actual game.

Personally I prefer it, but in some ways it hurts them.

They don't need to call a pre-rendered cut scene. They may not even need to use one. They just need to make one of "those" trailers, if you know what I mean. Something cool. Not "wow i'm playing this game with my family and suddenly we're in the game" things.

X is pretty enough and distinct enough so that I imagine they could make a really good commercial that let's you know it's next-gen with out resorting to bulling it up.

they also tend to use placeholder music. twilight princess was different. they did use placeholder music for a trailer or two, but actually composed something just for the trailer at e3 in 2005 and edited it with a little more panache.

Care to explain? I'm at work now and can't watch the vid. :(

It's in style with this, pretty much :D Just replace the bears with flies.

Super Mario Bros 5? I must have missed super mario bros 4.

If world was 4, then nsmb would be 5, 6, 7 and 8 and the next one would be super mario bros 9.

I say 5 because SMW was actually called SMB4 in Japan, and nothing has ever been called SMB5 before. /pedantry

A good trailer is important for generating initial hype and building momentum.

I hope they can get their Zelda U trailer right because first impressions are important seeing as people will judge the game based off it, and in Zelda's case a lot of people are expecting to be impressed.

The late trailers for SM3DW and DKCTF showed off the games really well after the initial underwhelming E3 reception they got. The smash reveal trailer was pretty good though as was the X reveal. More of those.

I dunno it looks like X is a big budget game so Nintendo would be crazy not to give it a good marketing campaign

W101 was platinum's biggest game, nintendo paid for it, yet it got little marketing...could be that it's arguably more niche and less mass marketable than X (if experienced reviewers barely understood it, what hope do the general public have?) but it deserved more.

Kamiya: We've never used this size of a team and this amount of time to build a game before, and even so, this is the first time it's been so tough for me, especially towards the end of development. I suppose I'm getting what I deserved there.

The only way I see F-Zero (or Star Fox) hitting Wii U is as eShop games. Smaller efforts they can sell for $25-$30 instead of retail. I'm not expecting either this year though. And if we get a Metroid game I'd guess it would be for 3DS.

Very interesting would have thought Bayonetta or MG Rising would require more work, Wonderful 101 was a tough sell too complicated for little kids, too ''childish looking'' for the ''Hardcore'' crowd X won't have that problem though and being the spiritual successor to one of the most critically acclaimed RPG's of the last generation will help it greatly also

IMO Metroid and Star Fox are the kind of franchises Next Level Games could work on. They even have some experience on HD consoles. That and they did say Nintendo has been giving them bigger and bigger IP's to work with so who knows. Although I think their next will be on 3DS. It's harvest time like Iwata said.

They had a WiiU game in development before they switched everything to Luigi's Mansion 2. So who knows.

I think BD is a good comparison to the level of promotion. That game actually got decent advertising (not Mario, obviously, but pretty good). I found myself pretty surprised seeing BD commercials on TV at night.

They did? I only remember what they said on Iwata Asks: Luigi's Mansion 2 which was that they were working on something for Nintendo while they called them to stop that and contribute to Year of Luigi instead. Platform of that unknown project wasn't disclosed.

I doubt their next game will be on 3DS, traditionally they develop mostly on consoles and would probably love to make something on wiiU

Ah, you're right. I thought the profile had specified WiiU in it. Still, I'm betting their next game is for WiiU at this point.

Doubt is only natural but when Iwata says it's harvest time then they have to have some studios planting seeds too so to speak. Although I don't think a Wii U game from them is too unlikely either.

I'm honestly not sure if that's her or a sound-alike. Have you seen Noragami? I think Maaya Uchida, who voices Hiyori, is voicing the pigtail girl (or it could be a sound-alike, once again).

I think the Silver haired lady is the KOS-MOS sounding one but who knows really. We got no info on current VA's right now.

Strckers u would be amazing, me and my friends just started playing charged, we dont play it that mouch tough since we have 3 wiimotes + 1 gamecube controller + gamepad.
So all we play is wii u + 3 wiimotes or 3 wiimotes + gamecube controller.
/offtopic

Anyway, I think the nfp thing will have a base game as some people have said, nintendoland 2, or nintendoland itself.

as a lurker, i didnt like that people used to predict dreamy things, but as a memeber im having fun doing that

You mean formerly silvered-haired lady, right? She has black hair now. But yes, Mariko Suzuki (or sound-alike) would be voicing her.

Listen to the girl here, then compare her to the pigtails girl. They sound alike, don't they?

They do sound really similar. It's hard to tell though since she's yelling in X.
I'm more interested in the English voices, though. Will NoE do it again or will NoA take over and have Steve Blum and John Dimaggio voice everyone?

I definitely hope that they're planning to reveal the name and more information about their Legend of Zelda game.

There's already so many great games for the Wii U, and so many great games that are already announced. And having even more sounds really great.

I'm really curious about their 'quality of life' platform. And what they're going to do in the future in general. Though I'm always curious about the future. There doesn't really seem to be a way to 'leapfrog' wearable technology except for implantable technology.

The next step from 'mobile' is probably wearable technology. And the next step from wearable technology is probably implantable technology. But I don't think that Nintendo would be a company that would be willing to invest and create something so controversial. Implantable technology is going to be a big deal some day, and is probably the only way to leapfrog wearable technology. But it's controversial, and will slowly, but surely, become normal.

And I don't think that Nintendo would do something that would offend so many people. And Nintendo tends to be around 10 years behind in technology, rather than very forward and announcing revolutionary things. It would be pretty neat if Nintendo wanted to invest in extremely futuristic technology that will succeed mobile and wearable technology, like anti-aging medicine for 'quality of life' or implantable technology. But it really doesn't seem like something that Nintendo would do, sadly.

I don't think that their technology will be able to leapfrog wearable technology. I think that they're going to create something else which uses obsolete technology again. But I'm still excited for more technology from Nintendo.

I still say it will be a flying robotic pet that monitors your daily activities and has customizable voices.
Now you can have your favorite Nintendo characters giving you encouragement throughout the day!
It tracks your work outs, daily routine, eating habits, your bowel movements and much more!
Order now and your pet can have a limited Luigi Hat!

I wonder how many people played with japanese audio, I know I did.

Bravely Default actually got ads, which is the important thing.

I changed it to Japanese around the time you run into Xord, who has one of the dumbest voices I have ever heard.

Xord was awkward, but the plush/animal party member had some of the worst voice acting I've ever heard. It was like some old man trying to mock both the voice of Spongebob and some eastern-european accent.
Xenoblade might be a prime example of why voice acting in Zelda could actually really be an awful idea.

You're dead to me.

How do I get on this hype train?!

My expectations:
  • SSB info
  • 3DS info on known games
  • 3DS info on 2 to 5 unkown games - 1 awesome
  • 3DS hardware redesign and/or price drop (~$20)
  • WiiU NFP info - special game - how it will work with currently known titles
  • WiiU Summer update info
  • WiiU 3rd party sizzle - maybe 1 or 2 game standout
  • WiiU info dates on rest of 2014 games - X real name
  • WiiU special gamepad game that is miyamotos secret
  • WiiU ZELDA U teaser trailer - 2015!

Anything from this list will be mind=blown
  • ZeldaU release 2014 and / or tons of gameplay info
  • 3DS redesign
  • QOL info that is good (really uncertian about this topic)
  • MetroidU
  • Retro doing some awesome FPS style game
  • Major 3rd party exclusive, bigger than bayonetta2
  • Final patch to normalize NNID account system allowing you to log into more than one WiiU
  • VC games purchased can be bought once and played on any nintendo hardware with NNID logged in

Things I fully expect to not happen at all and they shouldn't
  • WiiU redesign beyond storage upgrade/bundle configurations
  • new portable or home console
  • QOL pillar coming this year - only new platform discussed will be NFP
  • WiiMusic2 or similar
  • EA support

Gonna be exciting times!
