Well they need a QB. He is the best available IMO. I didnt realise that his brother went to QB (havent been following NFL for that long).

Murray, McCarron, boyd, Mettingberger, Savage or Carropolo then?

Savage randomly got heavily rumored to be their first pick of the second round, so him I guess.

Okay, I really did not want to draft Manziel, but it's really not all that bad now that I think about it. We still got a corner first and we can pick a lineman or WR early in the second in a deep draft. Plus with an additional top 5 pick next year and a bunch of other draft picks, it really hopefully won't matter too much if Manziel sucks. I'll just silently hope Watkins and Bridgewater turn out to be busts.

Why not hope they all have great careers, just Manziel has the best one? Let them all go into the Hall of Fame (Hoyer Wing) together!

Watkins won't be a bust anyways.

However, getting Gilbert, a fourth and a first next year for him is fantastic value.

I can't wait for Browns fans to see JG in the return game too. :)

Weeden is for life.

Because I am a bitter person.
No need to be bitter.

Browns are setting themselves up really well for the future. JFF is risky, but I think there's a chance he'll be spectacular as long as he's put in the right position.

Draft day, johnny Manziel. 5 years later how am I the man still?

Still can't believe last night, turned out better then I could imagine.

We added
Gilbert, JFF, 2015 1st + 4th, drake, Squicken

Gondo fill me in on Gilbert, also been thinking. We should go wr top of 2nd, seems like there will be quite a drop off after 2nd. Should still be tons of OL talent left in 3rd. We need a ILB but it's important we fill the rest of the Offense with talent. Still need Wr, OG, RB, Maybe TE depending who's available.
Edit: good to see all those people celebrating on espn, almost went to that draft party lol

Bridgewater has the best film, best stats. Fits very well at MN, great situation with weapons and time.

Really like the Vikes draft. Barr might have been a touch over drafted but I think he may be better than Mack in two years...just unbelievable athlete.

Yeah I'll be rooting for Teddy. Don't like how he was basically talked out of being the best QB.

Sounds like a good kid hopefully he succeeds. AP deserves to have a decent QB. They have weapons now.

After sleeping on it, I have come around on the Blake Bortles pick. With that said, the rest of the draft will dictate how good the Bortles pick was. I have faith in Caldwell and his staff.

You and me both, I'm just ecstatic the Jags didn't chase that Manziel fool's gold.

Chip said the Eagles wanted Cooks but the Saints jumped ahead of them. Cut the best small speedy deep threat in the draft, and try to take another small speedy deep threat.

Yeah I get that with only 6 picks this draft, they couldn't afford to move up and give up more picks but it only brings into question the other moves.

Why then give up a 5th round pick for Sproles? If Cooks is who you wanted, I'd rather keep our 5th round pick and select Cooks in the first. Even move up for him.

Losing Desean for nothing really hurts. This is supposedly the deepest draft known to man and we only had 6 picks. We should have at least gotten a 3rd or 2 picks for Desean. Could have really helped us.

Reaching for Smith in the first just hurt that much more. I hope they are right obviously but right now just frustrated by the whole FA.

Saints seem to be making the moves I wanted the Eagles to make. Signed Byrd and drafted Cooks. When FA/OFFSEASON started I really thought we would address S through FA with either Ward or Byrd and then take the BPA @ 22.

Maybe cause my son has been sick the whole week and I haven't slept but the first round really sucked the optimism I had.

Nine players left in green room for Friday night, including QB Y Garoppolo, USC WR Marqise Lee, Vanderbilt WR Jordan Matthews.

Texans gonna trade pick #33

I hope the Eagles use that extra pick they got in the 3rd to move up for Lee now. If not at 54 if Latimer is still available he has to be the pick.

Yeah I'm sorry but I'm going to give Chip the benefit of the doubt this year to see what he comes up with.

I want to my man. I really do. I love Chip but this off season has been really puzzling.

You have to admit reaching for Smith is just bizarre. I wanted them to address the LBs overall obviously but I am sick of hearing about versatility. Same shit with Malcolm Jenkins. I don't care if he can play both CB and S. He can't seem to play either position well. I love we targeted an OLB but this guy could have been had at 54. Or even the 3rd round.

WHY IN THE WORLD IN THE FIRST ROUND? If we still end up with a Lee or Latimer somehow after round 2 I'll feel a lot better.

I officially don't know what they are doing.

Yep. Manziel would have been a disaster for the Jaguars. I don't know if he will be a good quarterback or not, but he definitely would have de-railed anything that Gus and Dave are trying to do. Now its time to build the offensive line.

Howie just said on WIP that they were trying to trade back again from 26, but couldn't find the right partner. Sounds like they sort of know Smith was a reach there but when they couldn't move back, they took him as they didn't want to lose out on him.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
I still can't believe the Lions took Ebron.

I mean, I get the desire for a quality slot receiver/TE. But you just spent the #10 pick in the draft on a #3 receiver. It makes absolutely no sense. You're telling me you couldn't find a guy to fill that role in the second round?

I'm pretty excited about the Browns draft. Especially getting a 1st next year and the best CB in the draft for Pettine's system.

Getting Manziel at 22 was great too but I hope they don't force the issue and give him a chance to get used to the NFL.

I hope we go WR at 35 but I would be ok with a guard or ILB as well. Lee would be pretty great value at 35 and I'd be happy with Robinson as well.

Anyone needing a potential left tackle should look at the kid from Alabama in the 2nd. I think he would have been a top 15 pick if not for injury concerns.

But the thing they wouldn't have lost out on him. No one was picking him in the first and I doubt he was going to be gone in the 2nd round. Most people had a late 2nd or early 3rd round grade on him. We could have taken Lee there and gotten Smith at 54.

Now we risk losing out on Lee or Latimer while we reached for Smith.

I'm taking Pettine at his word that he does not want to start a rookie QB. Seriously the only thing we have to hope for is Hoyer doesn't get injured. If that happens then oh boy.

I believe Pettine will be a strong enough voice to combat anyone (ESPN, fans) who want Johnny to start.

Plus we also do have Vince Young, Tyler Thigpen and possibly one more free agent QB to sign.

i wonder if Lee from USC has some type of serious medical issue. he seemed to beast in college so i don't understand why he is dropping. maybe he'll make it to the late 2nd round and we can draft him/stash him for a year like lattimore!

Lee has the highest drop rate last year of any of the top 15 WRs in this draft, also McShay was saying there are concerns that he played poorly last year when USC was out of it. Sounds like he quit on the team when things didnt go well. I dont want another DRC type player so I really hope the Eagles dont get him.

You can't count on that though. Apparently the word around the league was that he was sliding up draft boards and may have gone as early as the top of the 2nd.

My guess is the Eagles didn't want to lose out on Smith and felt like the WR spot still had a good batch of players left (Lee, Latimer, Matthews, etc.). They felt more certain that a receiver they liked would drop to them at 54 than Smith dropping to them at 54.

Bottom line is sometimes the draft doesn't work out exactly the way you want and you just have to roll with the punches.

But on the other hand he was battling through injuries, USC went through 3 coaches in the same season, and his QB sucked.

The year before he was the best WR. I want him on the Eagles now. He isn't a Desean clone, has size, can still break the big one, and for a guy who was supposed to be a first round pick he is going to be pissed off to have dropped.

I really hope the Eagles get him because even if all things McShay said are true, he made everyone's top 5 WR list. That's the top 5 in a class where WR is the deepest position.

Apprently it was well known before the 22nd pick that the Vikings were going to trade back up for Bridgewater. The talk of them losing out to the Browns for Manziel must have been a smokescreen or they thought the Browns wanted Teddy.

Yeah obviously love JFF, but he's got some things to work on. Don't want to rush him. Love if he could sit a bit. We need more weapons though #HoHoyer

Those are all good points. The way things are going the Eagles will take a guy with a 4th round grade in the 2nd because he is versatile and an athletic freak.

Also, Kudos to the Vikings. I thought they had a great first round and I hope Bridgewater pans out for them. That bowl game against Florida was magical and I think Norvs a great coach who got fucked over by Banner and Lombardi.

Yet all my friends are Like.... WTF Y!

Bortles pick is all about next year. Caldwell and Gus know they are not ready to compete this year, so they chose the best quarterback and plan on getting him ready for next year. They still have 10 picks, so they still have an opportunity to address needs. We will have to wait until 2015 to find out if it will work out. I am excited they picked someone who isn't afraid to get hit.
