Johnny Manziel will absolutely thrive under Kyle Shanahan. Save this tweet for eternity if you like. Kyle is best possible OC for Manziel.

I agree with that, but the problem with JFF is he isn't RG3. He didn't run a ton of read option out of pistol. JFF was almost always a shutgun QB. It'd be better to get him under center than fashion a pistol offense

More than anything, and this goes for HoHoyer too, the Browns need a running game. All those pass attempts, and the putrid RBs last year, was awful. I think they need a good run blocking guard or RT and probably another RB for when Tate gets hurt in week 2

Not as worried about the rt play as some people. Browns know Rb isn't settled, I've seen a list of guys they're interested in. OG could be settled tonight, personally hoping first pick in 2nd is a Wr though

LTTP here, but to the people mad at Dallas for not taking Manziel or even a defensive player, Jerry made the smartest pick he could've made. Romo got a new contract and can't be traded or released for at least two more seasons. They're obviously in need of defensive players, but every player that fit well in the Tampa 2 scheme was already off the board and drafting one wouldn't have made sense in terms of value without trading down.

Jerry picked the best player on their board, which is the way smart teams draft. Bravo to him for taking a pass on the circus that is Johnny Football.

Lee seems like the obvious pick if hes still there. Should be anyway.

Have never really been a big fan of Carlos Hyde. Dude just doesn't look he has the speed to make an impact on the next level. Hope the Browns end up with somebody like Tre Mason instead.

Yup. I completely agree. Jerry followed his board and made the right call. Not to mention, Martin has often been described as the safest pick in the draft.

I am stoked for the second round. A lot of d-linemen that visited with Dallas are still available.

I didn't mind the pick at all. I let out a sigh of relief when JJ passed on Manziel.

I'll say this Hyde is deceptively quick, he reminds me Lacy.

Incompetent FO.

That hurts so much. They should have traded something to move up to 20 and get Dix, everyone on Earth knew the Pack were going to take him. I would feel a million times better about having Dix then Smith, hell I would rather have Dix then Smith + who ever they get in the 3rd/4th. I really feel like they blew the 1st round last night. I thought that the days of super questionable picks ended when Reid left town. Also 2 years in a row the first round pick is a guy that changed positions in college. They are so desperate to look smarter then anyone else that they keep going for these high risk high reward guys. Everyone on your team doesnt have to be some versatile athletic freak, some guys can just be good solid football players.

I think you are harsh on Lane Johnson. He had his ups and downs but late in the season was super solid. Our OLINE is super solid and only going to get better in year 2 for Johnson.

That said it does hurt to know that they got 0 for Desean. That's on the FO.

Then they lose out on every player they really wanted. Everyone in the world knew GB wanted Dix. So why not leapfrog them? I mean is having an extra pick that much more important than losing out on Dix? Or Cooks?

They got schooled by both the GB and NO. That's twice in one off season. First the Desean fiasco and now this.

He's in a tough spot. Can't really pull the plug on Geno after one year, and signing Vick. I just can't get over all the defensive players in the first round, year after year

This is why even though Sanchez sucks, how can we really be sure he sucks so much? They never added to the offense. He had no weapons , no run game, and then the OLINE deteriorated.

I still can't even believe the Bills gave up a first next year to move up 5 spots and draft Sammy Watkins. What a monumental blunder.

Isn't that too soon to say?

They were 6-10 last year, and that was with a banged up EJ who didn't even play a full season, and a banged up receivers core.

Are you telling me with Watkins, and a healthy SJ13, Woods, and Mike Williams, and a healthy EJ they're going to do any worse than 6-10?

If things go halfway decent, the browns won't have a top 10 pick, and if EJ Manuel truly is a bust, a mid round pick in the first wouldn't have been good enough anyway for a stud/franchise QB.

A Russell Wilson comes along once in a lifetime.

I think it was a huge mistake. This isn't comparable to the Falcons trade for Julio Jones where they could trade a future 1st because their team was loaded and ready to win the Super Bowl right then. The Bills are still a rebuilding team. They're well stocked and could potentially surprise this year, maybe even make the playoffs, but giving up a 1st is just too much.

And while I love Watkins, I don't think adding him to an offense led by the, at best, inconsistent EJ Manuel is a guarantee that they're over 6-10. But I understand Whaley and Marrone may be coaching for their jobs, so they felt it was necessary, but it should almost go without saying that if they don't show serious progress this year and don't even have a top 10 pick to show for it next season, they're gone.

if the Lions take Marquise Lee I'm jumping off a ledge.

Lee needs to either fall to the Eagles or they better trade up.

But seeing how this whole off season/fa/draft has gone I fully expect any # of teams to out maneuver the Eagles. Then we can hear them lament how they were gonna take him but so and so moved up.

Chip and Howie made it clear this morning they wanted Dix and Cooks over Smith. That they even had Lee and other players ranked higher but reached for OLB Smith because they weren't sure he would be available at pick 54 and it fit a need at OLB. So they reached for a need after 2 years of preaching BPA BPA BPA.

Not true. They drafted Greene in the same year and signed LT the next year. They traded for Santonio Holmes in '09 as well and drafted Vlad Ducasse, Joe McKnight (lol), and Stephen Hill (lol x2).

Yeah that part really pisses me off. Every. Single. Fucking. interview Howie says that they have always and will always go BPA no matter what, and now they come out and admit that they reached because of need. Such bullshit. I hope Smith is great but I really wish they hadnt taken him.

Biggest bust potential (for a receiver) in the draft this year. Couldn't catch the ball against weak competition.

Extremely late to the party here but, the Browns had a REALLY good draft!

If Manziel busts, oh well, but if he thrives they will improve a lot. If he gets hurt, they still have Hoyer who despite being hurt last year showed signs of improvement.

They also robbed the Bills of some picks for the future. If they have a shaky year (I predict 5-11) they will have another solid pair of draft picks in 2015. By 2016 I can see the Browns headed to the playoffs with a decent RB.

Manziel, Cameron, Gordon + a RB is solid offense. Defense was underrated last season. Bright future if they stay smart with the picks.

Speaking of BPA...the Lions have been doing that for years under Mayhew. Just based on looking at the top 100 players available today it looks like the BPA available at #45 could very easily be a WR. So is Mayhew going to draft one, after blowing a #10 pick on a TE they're claiming will virtually be a Jimmy Graham hybrid?

BPA doesn't make sense if you don't need the player IMO. You never want to reach, but if you're secondary is trash, it's time to pick a player, and a WR is one or even two spots ahead of a CB/S/etc on your draft board...why go WR?

Well yeah BPA should never be absolute. If you have Brees you aren't drafting a QB in the first round.

The Eagles BPA and need should have aligned last night. WR and Lee.

Smith could not have been the BPA on their board. Just can't believe he was. At 54 yes but at 26?

They said he wasnt, they said that they tried to trade down again at 26, but that they couldnt find a partner so they took Smith because they were worried he wouldnt be there for their next pick.

I wish they took him tonight. Or tomorrow. I mean he deserves to be drafted.

Best option with Dix, Mosley, Cooks down was to draft Lee or trade down further. Minn wanted to move back in. Ask them for another 3rd or even a 4th and move down.

If you are forced to pick at the spot even if you top guys are gone, then take THE BEST DAMN PLAYER AVAILABLE Chip! Not a reach.

I'll be rooting hard for this guy because I feel bad for the shit he is going to get but that's not his fault, that's on the FO. I hope he turns out to be Ware and Chip is a super genius.

My biggest issue is that with the first round pick you need to pick someone who will have an immediate impact. Say what you will about Lane Johnson we knew he would be plugged in to start day 1. That's an impact pick. Is this guy starting over Barwin? Over Cole? If no, then why is he a first round pick?

Yeah my biggest problem with the pick is they got a guy that will be a rotation guy at best initially. Cant take Barwin off the field since he is the only OLB that is good in coverage. Cole really came on the last 8 weeks, so I want to see him on the filed. I really hope Graham gets another chance and shows what he can do so realistically how many snaps is Smith going to get? I understand they want to develop him since neither Cole or Graham are likely to be back, but they could have taken a guy that could have an immediate impact in the 1st and grabbed an OLB to develop later in the draft. I have soured so much on Howie since he got the job, I think he is a worse version of Banner.

Are Rounds 2 and 3 tonight really only going to take 1 hour? ESPN says it'll be on from 6 to 7 PM. That seems really short to me. Want to make sure I set my DVR properly.

Actually, I'd feel really bad for Derek Carr if he's taken by the Texans.. The fans will hate him by default.

I'm not too sure. I mean, surely there will be some fans who will, but as a Texans fan who actually lives in Houston, most people I talk with all seem to agree that when we drafted David we gave him such a shitty supporting cast that he had no chance to succeed. Maybe he would of been something great if another team got him, but because we took him we ruined him. But now? I would welcome Derek to the Texans, we need a QB and he's probably the best one still out there. No reason to judge Derek because of how we mishandled David.

Though you're probably right, no chance in hell we pick him because as soon as we undoubtedly start losing a few games next season fans will be asking for his head. Heck, Derek Carr used to play high school football in the Houston area while his brother was still here, it was kind of sad how much shit some of the stands gave him.

Someone on the Eagles official board put it best.

Its like going into a store to get a computer you really want. Its priced @ $700 but you insist on paying $900. Yeah you got the computer you wanted but why overpay?

This guy was priced perfectly at pick 54. We overpaid.

I don't get the scheduling. The NBA was fine on tnt but last night and tonight was switched over to espn2. TNT should have these games.
