Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Remakes Announced for 3DS

On the third point i wonder how important balance is to gamefreak. I mean has mega ampharos really served to balance the game in any way. Or how about mega banette?

Edit: i dont play competitively so someone inform me? Has the introduction of megas balanced the metagame in anyway? Look at things like mega gengar and mega kenga. Balance must be a distanct third.

I can't speak for the others but mega ampharos is pretty great. Not only are the dragon ball references even more noticeable but his slow speed, ridiculous sp.a and access to volt switch with some great moves like (I may have the names wrong as I play in Spanish) rock slide and bug (silver?) beam makes him a great anchor and trick team comrade.

Also khanghaskhan went from nobody to broke. I think the most deciding factor is if they had a really good idea for a mega (such as making a buu mewtwo to play off the fact that mewtwo was inspired by frieza and buu is stronger than frieza).

I feel like the main goal should have been to make every fully evolved poke viable first and foremost.

Gamefreak has said that they're purposefully make some pokemon stronger/weaker than others. They're not concerned about balance. I also don't see how only giving some Pokemon Megas is any worse than only giving some Pokemon evolutions, like in gens 2 and 4.

Pokemon like Mawile, Charizard, Venusaur, etc are now viable now. Mega evolutions have made many more Pokemon more viable while leading to only two broken ones. It's even arguable that some Pokemon (Blaziken, Garchomp) are better without mega stones.

Though mega gengar is bullshit to the ninth degree. Can't wait for mega arceus. What's better than god? Mega-god y of course.


And yeah blaziken is broken regardless of mega and garchomp is more versatile than mega chomp thanks to items.

On the subject of mega evolution, I think this is what DragonKnight was referring to:

Y'know, I really hope they bring back the option to keep running shoes on at all times without having to hold down B. That was awesome in HGSS.

You already said you know nothing about competitive battling, so why are you still talking?

In Mawile's case, it was an uterrly useless Pokemon before it got a Mega evolution. Now it's one of the most popular Pokemon in the game. Could this have been achieved with a regular evolution? Of course.

But having to Mega evolve allows Mawile to use two abilities in battle, both of which are very good. Then there's Gyarados, which is weak to Fairy when it Mega evolves, but neutral to it beforehand etc. This leads to some interesting mind games. Megas also allow Pokemon to fulfil different roles to their regular forms. Regular Venusaur is a fast sweeper in the sun. But Mega Venusaur is an incredibly good wall.

tl'dr, megas add a new dimension to competitive battling and most them look really cool. Stop hating.

The way the trainers are designed didn't change very much since 2003/2005
(or at least the gap is much less big than between Silver/Gold and SS/HG). It don't expect the new Hoenn characters to be much different than the originals.

The issue is the way the characters are designed in the overworld since X/Y... ("dwarf" syndrom)

You can see their legs get thinner and thinner with each game. Calem and Serena practically have toothpicks.

Honestly the Pokémon series has not done anything really interesting since Gen 4. Gen 5 tried to bring a serious story and fine tune the gameplay and Gen 6 was the first fully 3D game and adding Mega to the evolution line. I would say the only reason I like Gen 6 was because of the Pokémon designs and Wonder Trade is a neat idea. I would like Gen 6 mechanics in Gen 3 though, so I think the remakes are more interesting than X/Y.
 
I always purchased the "blue" version of games up till this gen.

Man in retrospect the "red" versions always had more badass box arts. Charizard, Ho-oh, and Groundon...geeze

In the Pokemon Special manga, all main characters are named after game versions. So, her name is Sapphire. Her introduction also is very different from any of her game and anime counterparts.
 
So I had another watch of the sneak peak trailer and I can see Sootopolis City off in the distance, but I also think that the emerald part of the story is going to be ignored as Groudon in emerald woke up in Magma Hideout located at Jagged Pass.

Pretty sure that the Battle Fronter will be in it though.

Because Pikachu doesn't meet rule number two, which is that the Pokémon must be fully evolved something that Pikachu is not.

Ah I see, I had no idea that extends to the other characters past Gold and Silver aswell and I wondered because from that one page, Sapphire seems to have a slightly different character than May but then again I barely remember that part of the anime. Crazy to think that was about 10 years ago. As for Sapphire's introduction...

May in the anime was a coordinator and starts off as a rookie but grows into a strong trainer. Sapphire is a jungle girl who swings from vines and has fangs.

May in the anime had bigger boobs so is therefore superior.
