White Georgia teens celebrate graduation with a Drake lyric (they chose poorly)

Non black people saying "nigga" makes me cringe so fucking hard.

One time in Manhattan, I overheard a couple fighting. The guy (black) said to his girlfriend (white) "nigga you is playing with me!" Then he stormed off and she shuffled after him in 6 inch heels.

New York is awesome.

This is hilarious. Stupid and ignorant as all hell but still funny.

Oh, but lemme get my cape so I can be Super Mad.

Yea, I really don't get why kids (who have access to lyrics and you tube) decide nigga we made it is the most quotable thing for a senior slogan. I would think "started from the bottom now we here" would make a lot more sense, especially for a rooftop bombing but what do I know.

What's the big deal? The blacks call each other "nigga" all the time. Why can't I ignore historical context and say it too?

Me not being able to to say it is reverse racism. This conditional usage bullshit has to end.

Stop concern trolling in every thread about some racist shit.

That isn't as edgy.

Yeah I don't see at as racist (at least not explicitly), but damn if there isn't something tremendously infuriating about a bunch of rich white kids (actually the richest county in Georgia, 30th richest in the country) saying nigga. I can't quite put a finger on what about it bothers me.

Also, lol at the people saying they shouldn't be allowed to graduate. It's stupid, but it's not worth actually jeopardizing the kids' futures.

I gave it the rebuttal it deserved. Your compliments are appreciated.

I was silly enough to take the bait. Won't happen again. Keep on fighting the good fight and make any thread about a racial issue hostile as shit.

Peace, bruh.

As a non-American I have a hard time wrapping my mind around this. The word is used commercially, in pop songs like this one by Drake. It is then marketed and sold to kids and like most pop artists intended for kids to like, sing along to and emulate. Which they do, but then people get upset when they do. They should know better, they should understand.

But here is the thing. The word is used in a song, light hearted, commercial. Like it isn't a big deal, even though it quite obviously is and very rightfully so.

So why isn't this explained to those kids and why isn't the outrage aimed at Drake and other artists who so carelessly use the word and teach kids like these that it's a cool and hip thing to say and use? To me that is where your anger should be aimed. That word and other slurs like it either need to not be used at all or only used for education of how bad they are. But if you have commercial pop songs make light of them and even make them hip and cool, then it seems to me that that is where your problem lies.

This.

If you make a fucking song aimed at kids and kids run around using the lyrics from your song, don't get bent out of shape about it. You can't buy a hip hop album without hearing the word a thousand times, and they expect the suburbanite teens who buy them not to say it? Maybe stop using the word and the next time some white kid uses it we can actually cry racist instead of them just being dumb enough to repeat the garbage they hear in an extremely popular song.

These aren't little kids, though. They know better, they're just in an area where they don't have to worry about any real repercussions for it. Except now they do.

They deserve the shit that's coming at them.

Hey white people, instead of always freaking out about whether saying nigger is ok or not, how about just don't say it.

Problem solved.

They just graduated from high school, which means they are kids. And you honestly believe that they only say "nigga" because it's a predominately white area? Get real, white, Hispanic, Asian, etc. kids all over this country say "nigga" all the time because the music that they listen to tells them it's cool and perfectly fine to say.

As for the "shit that's coming at them", we'll see. I highly doubt they don't graduate or anything too terrible happens. They made a stupid mistake and quoted the wrong lyrics. Live and learn.

Hey black musicians, the majority of people who buy your music aren't black. If you want people to stop thinking it's ok to say nigga, stop glorifying it in your music.

Problem solved.

Also in my experience lots of younger black people don't really care who says nigga, so long as they don't drop the hard 'r.'

they chose aight. better prank than what mine did.

styrofoam cups filled with water on a flight of stairs, put vaseline underneath locker handles, lame shit that ain't news worthy.

I grew up listening to rap music, recite the lyrics word for word, but never really got to use "nigga" in my regular slang vernacular. I feel like I missed out. I do remember snickering in English class when "niggardly" was a vocab word.

I was once entrapped into saying nigga.

Was hanging out with a friend and his cousin, both black.. maybe the second time I'd met the cousin we are hanging out and my good friend says to me "Am I your nigga?" And I said "Yeah man you're my nigga"...

The look on his cousin's face still haunts me. LOL, j/k.. but he wasn't pleased.. my friend laughed.

Are any of these black musicians that you're talking about complaining about what these teenagers did?

I don't think anyone who has issue with non-blacks saying nigga in this thread are one of these black musicians that you speak of.

These teenagers should know better. Who gives a shit what some rapper puts in a song, it doesn't mean the rest of us support that nonsense. He is not our spokesmen.

A lot of white kids listen to rap music. A lot of white kids call each other "niggas".

This is much ado about nothing.

A couple of things I need address;

In highschool I knew right from wrong and that things I did had consequences. Them being "kids" doesn't absolve them from anything coming their way. They knew what they were doing.

By your logic we can use the media we consume as an excuse for our bad behavior. I don't support that at all.

You're blaming the usage of racial slurs on the people it's used against. That's. . .not a good look.

black people and black musicians are not a monolith. There's no button I have under my desk that puts me in a conference call with all black people where I can say "guys, I think we should stop using the N-word" and everyone will agree from there on to never use it ever again because you said so.

Language doesn't work the way you think it does. Black people use the N-word among themselves because the word has a different meaning in that context. Keep in mind not all black people even use the word or even like when it's aimed towards them by anyone.

You can say whatever it is you want. Go ahead, call people the n-word. You can do it just be prepared for the consequences.

Not aimed at kids
People don't have to mimic the media they consume

Personal responsibility

Personal responsibility doesn't exist anymore? We're supposed to learn our do's and don't's from...RAP MUSIC?? @_@
