Preordered this last night from Nintendo, damn the launch seems so far away.
the Mario Kart Bundle @ 330 is a decent deal for someone completely new to Wii..
Deluxe System - 200 (You can find it for 200 Furb'd or 250 new)
Wiimote Plus w / wheel 35 + 5
Mario Kart 8 Game 60.00
Additional Free game with Nintendo Club Registration.. 50.00
Roughly a 350 to 400 dollar value... Not to mention you get free online and backwards compatibility.
It has value ... I dont get why people are complaining ..
Was excited about the free game so was about to order it - turns out, not eligible for my country - *yay*
We'll just wait a bit longer then Nintendo.

How will most of you be playing this game? Will you use the Wii mote / wheel combo, the tablet or the pro controller?
Is it too early to ask this question? I'd still like to hear what you have to say on this subject.
Nothing has been said about additional Downloadable Content for Mario Kart 8, though I think it would be a missed opportunity if they didn't take that chance & offer some of the omissions from the roster. (Goombella & Fawful, anyone?)
What are the chances Nintendo fixing battle mode by having downloadable maps?
Paste Magazine gives it an 8.8

"The other notable omission is in the cast of characters diversity. After 30 years there are still zero Mario characters of color, a problem that Mario Kart 8 highlights by lining up all the characters on a single screen. When it comes to human characters, Mario Kart 8 is overwhelmingly white. Of the 29 drivers, 14 are human (including Toad and Toadette), and every single one of them is white. While itd be atypical of Nintendo to introduce new characters into a Mario Kart game, its also where the deficit is the most obvious, and during play I found myself disappointed that Nintendos stable of characters so painfully fails to reflect the diversity of its audience."

the idea that Mario should feature a more diverse cast isn't terrible, but the way this is written just makes me laugh. Also, are Miis available to use as racers?
Seems like a really improved Mario Kart experience. Not sure if I can still bring myself to break my "No more Mario Kart" rule, but maybe if a price drops. Unfortunately with Nintendo they may be like an eternity. They sold NSMB DS at original MSRP for like twenty two years straight or some shit
Those visuals are some hot fire though, they really pushed the Wii U to make a game I genuinely find visually appealing. I rarely find last gen games very much to look at anymore, with their sub-HD resolutions at times and awful framerates.
Gametrailers' review sounds so begrudging.
Personally speaking, I don't think putting any rules or values will do you any good when it comes to entertainment. Enjoy what you want to enjoy, and if its support you are worried about then I'm sure you can find means to enjoy the product without directly giving the money to Nintendo (borrowing from a friend, renting it, etc.). There's really no reason to forbid yourself from enjoying what is, at the end of the day, harmless fun.Seems like a really improved Mario Kart experience. I just noticed NWR privated their youtube review.

I missed it; why would they so that?
I'm sure the comments were mostly people pissed off at their two semi-negative reviews. Honestly, though, the site in general seems like it has had a real axe to grind with Mario Kart 8 for a while, and this is coming from someone who really doesn't care all that much about Mario Kart 8 or MK in general. It's super weird.
Ah I see. But the writen review on their site is still live. Was the video review even more negative?

Anyway, on topic. I'm very pleased to see the reviews confirming my initial thoughts. But I'll have to play the game first hand to really come down with the final judgement.

Yea bit. They seemed to be very let down by the lack of dedicated battle mode. Which i can understand as I feel the same way. Everything else about the game looks amazing, so i expected the same from battle mode. Makes the omission glaring when found in what appears to be an otherwise tight package.
720pAny mentions on the final rendering resolution? Game looks fantastic!
The graphics are crisp, detailed, and very dense in design, and not to mention this game runs at a rock solid 60FPS and at 720p -- which not only benefits the gameplay, but also the visuals.
The game's visuals are beautiful, 1080p and 60fps even in two-player split-screen, while new characters and weapons such as the Piranha Plant keep things feeling fresh amongst otherwise familiar surroundings.
Next step for Nintendo is not another Mario Kart but a Nintendo All Stars Racing!
Only way to evolve.
I agree. I'd love to be racing through Hyrule, the planets in the Lylat system or the Pokémon world.
Indeed, I also hated how it started with the Wii U and claiming how it's hard to review a game without talking about the Wii U low sales. That crap was so pointless and unneeded

What I'm saying is that what I'm reading makes me think maybe it's worth giving Mario Kart a try again, but because of my increasingly bad experience with the series for the past eight years, it's hard to want to buy-in at full price.
But we'll see. Maybe i can use some of my power up reward points from Gamestop or something, I must have a shitton available from trades.
Nope.
Why does everything Nintendo creates need to turn into Smash?

Did they run out of time? Is that why they botched battle mode?
It's not arbitrary, the rule is there because I haven't been enjoying the latest Mario Kart games for a while now. Too many game balance breaking items and abilities, too many failed opportunities to genuinely improve or innovate on stale or in need of refinement mechanics.

Nintendo seems to be confused on what constitutes a good battle mode. The history of the kart series seems to be hit or miss. MKDS seemed to have it perfectly and I thought they'd have learned after that...
Do you know when and where this was confirmed? I've seen sites claim both 720p

As well as 1080p

I don't know.It would allow Nintendo to freshen up locales, character rosters and power ups. Nintendo Kart could be interesting even if it is a spin off.
