Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Exactly. Let's say they make a Dr. Mario alternate costume with six different palettes available as digital DLC for $2.99. You can buy it there, or alternately you can buy a little Dr. Mario trophy (exactly as it would appear ingame, trophy base and everything) for $5.99 that comes with the DLC in the form of an install for one Wii U (so permanent on that single Wii U) or a temporary install for any number of other Wii Us as long as you scan the figurine at the character select screen.

It would be a neat alternative that is definitely not mandatory. I know I personally would love to have some physical SSB collectables that come with DLC...

You know you're not gonna get the option for both if this ever does happen.

F.L.U.D.D. is pretty cool. It should be more thoroughly integrated though. Make it act somewhat like Jet Kirby from Super Star and Super Star Ultra.
FLUDD is a neat move, but never should have been added to Mario. Mario is supposed to be the baseline character, the character anyone can pick up and play to understand the basics of Smash Bros. Giving him a gimmicky, relatively complicated move (charge it up to use, also it does no damage on its own) was an absolutely awful idea.

If they wanted to add FLUDD they should have made it an item.

You know you're not gonna get the option for both if this ever does happen.
Why not? It would be along the same lines as having New Super Luigi U as a physical disc. Nintendo might have had a lot of trouble lately, but they've been doing a pretty good job at making sure their consumers have options in how they choose to buy things. I can't see any NFC incorporation in Smash Bros. becoming mandatory, but I also feel that not having some kind of NFC incorporation would be a huge wasted opportunity.

Wireframe Mac also was originally bigger than Little Mac. That's why "Little Mac" was even created in the first place, because the original boxer was too big to be a NES sprite alongside his opponents, and his size became a defining characteristic. Yet, Smash Bros is ignoring the Wireframe boxer's original size here.

Sure, I consider it an outright retcon though. Kinda like Donkey Kong's history/lifespan/family.

I have no issues with hand-of-god waving like that.

I really want this alt for Mario now.

SMS_sunglasses_and_shirt.jpg

Oh yeah that has to happen.

So as we all know Ridley is in the game, what do you think his move (Singular - one move? Did you fall from faith?) will be?
He'll do his Pogo jump a few times and then use a Fire Blast.

After that he'll vanish because unlike the Boss "Ridley Clone" on Pyrosphere he's an Assist Trophy.

Edit: Sorry if you actually meant the boss on Pyrosphere - I think Clone Ridley will have claw slashes and Fire Balls. Additionally I think he'll occasionally grab a character and scrub the wall of the Pyrosphere with him.

Size doesn't matter to Santa. I mean, have you seen the sizes of the chimneys he can squeeze down? Surely making Santa larger wouldn't make much of a difference.

Wireframe Mac is just an alternate color. There are absolutely zero changes made to the model's geometry -- and that's sort of necessary for an alternate costume to truly be an alternate costume. Replacing his skin texture with a green mesh has really thrown people for a loop.

I'm 99% positive this will be the extent of the game's "true" alternate costumes:

Wario
WarioWare (6 color schemes)
Wario Land (6 color schemes)

Villager
Boy (6 shirt design/face/hair combinations)
Girl (6 dress design/face/hair combination)

Wii Fit Trainer
Female (6 color schemes)
Male (6 color schemes)

Wireframe Mac is no different than Ness' Mr. Saturn shirt, and there are a lot of higher effort individual costumes like Pikachu's hats or Sonic's wristbands. Nothing about Wireframe Mac stands out as being in the same league as Wario/Villager/WFT.

I think that Dr. Mario has a good chance to appear as an alt costume, still, simply because it would make sense and be fairly easy to do, even if they decided to give him Megavitamins as (regular un-customized) fireball.
After all, Doc is part of Smash's history, it's the same base character, and Melee's Dr. Mario was a clone. I think being an alternate costume is pretty much the only way for Dr. Mario ever to return, if he does.

At least I hope I'm right. I'm not expecting it, though.

It would be nice, but then they would have to do a little bit of extra work in terms of announcer VA and altered character names to go along with the alt.

Good news everyone:

Nintendo's doing two evening Q&A/presentations at E3, one for Super Smash Bros and one for "a new game for Nintendo 3DS."

Theory: It's about NFP! :p

Both of Nintendo's E3 discussions are set to be an hour and a half. Smash is 7:00 8:30 p.m. PT and the new 3DS game is 6:00 – 7:30 p.m

Knowing this, I wonder what it'll be about. Will it just be talking about the new features that weren't easy to show off in a trailer? Will it basically be the equivalent of smash direct 2? What 'last minute' character reveal will be there?

So for E3, we have to assume it'll be a 3-tier smash spectacle.

Tier 1: E3 Direct will have 1-2 trailers. 1 trailer will be for a newcomer (think megaman reveal from last e3), 1 trailer will be either a gameplay/modes/veterans trailer
Tier 2: The smash tournament. Showing off gameplay at a more competitive level
Tier 3: Nintendo roundtable, where they talk about stuff too difficult to show in a trailer, concluding with one more newcomer (pac-man, or something off-beat, like Wii fit trainer).

I was going to say the treehouse stuff was the tier 3, but now that we know we're getting a smash roundtable, I don't know if we'll get any more info from the treehouse stuff.

Hour and a half, holy shit. Even Smash direct was only 40 minutes. HOUR AND A HALF OF NEW SMASH INFO.

Also, what "New" 3ds game could possibly warrant a NINETY MINUTE PRESS CONFERENCE.

I really hope these are livestreamed.

I'm sticking with my NFP theory. Both of them are showing off NFP stuff, which is why they're so long. New tech for nintendo requires a demonstration.

Round table could have all out spoilers with warning at the start! Chorus Men!

I am so glad I took June 10th off.

This is basically nonstop nintendo for 12 hours.

9 AM PST > 8:30 PM PST.

(noon to 1130 for me, EST)

Maybe we will get all character reveals by end of E3

Holy Shit. A hour and half. I wouldn't be surprised if they are going to review old news too

Other than a full content blowout, what could they possibly show at E3 that warrants 90 minutes of smash bros?

What feature or set of features is worth talking about for 90 minutes?

I definitely think it will have some explaining, similar to the smash direct, but what the hell else do they do, other than reveal more newcomers?

Show off single player for wii u? show off online? show off... what!? I'm racking my brain here.

I'm thinking either a "Behind the scenes" Q&A kinda thing where they go into the decision and game making process, or a spoiler-ridden blowout where everything is revealed.

I mean, honestly, i'm ok with everything they could possibly do. Even worst case scenario is that it's 90 minutes of this:

And even that will be ok

Also, to everyone sad that nintendo isn't doing a conference because of 'no crowd reaction', the 90 minute press conference for smash will have crowd reaction :)
