Sony's E3 2014 - What are we all expecting?

At least Driveclub is out of way, but why keeping the order 1886 too quiet. 20-30mins demo? I think it should be on pre-e3 better as we know what it will be. Let surprise titles have own demo section.

Sorry, but that's RAD you're talking about, working on a most interesting title. Can't wait to see some glorious 10 minutes walk- through...

Sales figures
PS3 price drop
Tutorial on Playstation Now, where you will be able to stream a ton of games on multiple devices
TLOU PS4
New Demons Souls
Final Fantasy
Uncharted 4 CG trailer, no gameplay shown
Kingdom Hearts
Metal Gear
Drive Club
The Last Guardian 2015 release date
Grand Theft Auto 5 on PS4 with possible bundle
Media Molecule project on Project Morpheus as leeway for other parties to develop

Hope for a new Crash Bandicoot but don't see it happening. Consoles are being dominates by first person, third person open world games and platformers are severely lacking.

I expect Sony to reveal MANY of the over 100 + titles they have in development for the PS4. I also would like for them to show off some of their third party exclusive chops.

I am expecting

1. Uncharted 4 (Maybe another trailer and more info , but not gameplay or if gameplay it will be in engine)
2. Project Beast AKA Demon Souls 2
3. More The Order 1886 gameplay
4. Playstation NOW details
5. The Last Guardian

I'm starting to have this niggling feeling that MS are going to massively upstage Sony this E3.

With what 5 Halo games? Im sorry i really don't get the hype for Microsofts E3, all the hype comes to down to what Phil Spencer said on twitter.

The smallest dog always barks the loudest.

I'm starting to have this niggling feeling that MS are going to massively upstage Sony this E3.

It's pretty obvious ms is going to announce alot of games.

Hopefully sony is ready with there own batch , but i could honestly see the order and driveclub , u4 teaser and 3rd party games.

For a company that wanted to win, where's my $299 SKU with Kinect and $199 Kinectless SKU? Where's the no Gold paywall for MP?

To me, my rational belief is that if MS were really attempting to do something insane, Sony of all people wouldn't take it lying down. They know, how potentially fatal a megaton XB1 exclusive will be. If MS were able to lay blank cheques for all that, I find it hard to believe that Sony wouldn't counter with something of their own, if only to maintain parity.

Any business, rationally, looks internally first to address their issues before working with external people on it, because relationships change as swiftly as the wind in businesses. I can believe MS dropping prices, I can believe MS signing multiple first-party exclusives, but suddenly going to the insane depths of exclusifying a major 3rd-party franchise at the scale of a megaton?

I find that hard to believe.

What's Titanfall, then? Microsoft was trying to clench this war early on, they just didn't realize how little people wanted their system.

115k, dude. 115k. For a system that's been out six months. And they're going to get worse with the next couple weeks. There's no way they saw that number and didn't get pissed. If Kinectdrop doesn't help them, they're screwed until the holidays while Sony costs on 200k.

I'm trying to understand this logic because I see this all the time and I just don't get it.

Do you expect them to not announce or show some gameplay footage of any of their 2014/2015 games just because they're in the lead? Let's say they decided to do this at E3 for some reason (they won't)...Now the announcement/reveal ---> release date is much shorter. To me, that's good, but they need to get people excited for the upcoming months.

I'm not sure where this "oh man, they're in the lead so there's no way they'll show anything" mentality is coming from. Wouldn't it be wise to have a big showing to run a few more laps around the competitors? Sony sees far more benefits by chasing the Wii's sales burst than just being above the X1/Wii U.

More consoles = more subscriptions (this is where a ton of money comes from. Remember what games Sony and Microsoft released in 2013 and how the number of PS+ subscriptions jumped in Q4.) more developers making games for the console, and more games sold.
Higher gap between competitors = the benefits of the friends effect and overall mouth of word becomes more important.

More often than not, businesses settle for being on top rather than "lapping their competitor", though. There's a reason a lot of people thought Sony's E3 sucked last year. (It's not entirely valid, but still.)

That 100+ games counts third-parties as well. Plus you can find that list on a Sony website and it's already pretty close to 100.

I am only expecting some news about my favorite spartan

untitled-112b39.gif

I'm both excited AND nervous about what they will do with this IP. I'm such a huge fan. The world is filled diverse and wonderful mythologies so I hope they take advantage of them.

I agree with everything except this. The Vita is the only thing that is keeping the Playstation name floating in Japan right now and its user baser is growing more than last year. Publisher are developing more games for it, and their games are selling well on it. It's fostering and strengthening playstation's relationship with third party in Japan, so it is very important. Besides it is profitable so that always counts for something.

Good point and I agree. In the JP market the vita plays and will play an important role, especially since the publishers are still not ready to fully jump on the ps4 yet

I'm starting to have this niggling feeling that MS are going to massively upstage Sony this E3.

That's a given, imo. MS will spend 90 minutes talking about games while Sony will be obliged to drag in Vita, Morpheus, PS Now, sales talk...This does not mean Sony would not be able to host a great one, it's just that in terms of software announcments volume, MS wiill end up on top. Still, as I said before, Sony will have the most impressive piece of realtime footage (Uncharted and The Order) and the most innovative title in whatever MM is working on.

I cant believe they are probably going to waste stage time on TLOU PS4.

I was expecting a small pre E3 showing for that like Sony normally does but it seems they are keeping every little thing for the show. I expect a lot of time on games already announced.

I only expect 1 new SCE reveal

If they're listening to fans, then they have to know only one new game from SCE would be a massive disappointment. That would just be a repeat of last year where the only new SCE game that they revealed was The Order. It's also going to be disappointing if they focus too much on already announced games. There are some that are expected. The Order is obviously going to be demoed. Uncharted should be there in some form. DRIVECLUB may see a trailer. But that's all of Sony's new announced games for the PS4. At least as far as retail goes. That's why there are big expectations for what their studios have been working on.

Of course there are third party devs as well. Destiny was confirmed by Activision. I think everyone expected it to be there. I'm fairly certain that AC: Unity will be there. But Sony's E3 conferences are usually an hour and a half long, and all of what I mentioned really isn't going to take up that much time. So, they should have a lot of time to fill out the rest.

What's Titanfall, then? Microsoft was trying to clench this war early on, they just didn't realize how little people wanted their system.

If Titanfall wasn't going through development hell to the point that it needed first-party funding, that game wouldn't had been an exclusive.

In many ways, Titanfall was a lucky get from MS. There's a big difference between Titanfall, and established IPs from major publishers.

I can believe Dragon Dogma. I can believe Platinum. I can believe No Man's Sky. Hell, I can even believe fucking Shenmue 3.

But I'm not going to lay down any amount of money on stuff like Left4Dead 3, Fallout 4, Red Dead, or something of that scale.

Remember when that guy from Sony Pictures came out last year, talked for 10-15 minutes, and then didn't really announce shit?

That's a given, imo. MS will spend 90 minutes talking about games while Sony will be obliged to drag in Vita, Morpheus, PS Now, sales talk...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I completely forgot about those talking points. Sony will blow a solid chunk of their
E3 discussing these things.

FUCK.

I would think when someone says Microsoft nails a big exclusive, they mean stuff that's either new or a reboot of something old. They aren't going to nail gigantic projects like Red Dead. It'd cost too much to make, plus there's no way publishers would get their money's worth out of a single system.

FUCK.

Even if they talk about those things, how does that delete the new games and new footage of announced games?

Cmon guys, one thing does not cancel out another. It'll just build up the suspense.

Surprised that not many people are predicting Uncharted Collection for PS4. I'm sure there was a fairly solid rumour of it earlier in the year. Would also make a lot of sense while we wait for Uncharted 4, and we know how much Sony loves remasters.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

FUCK.

Every year we seem to think that Sony will just steamroll us with big exclusives, but that never happens. We usually only get one or two big exclusive game announcements.

They always spend a lot of time on the other platforms and services they're trying to push and they also spend a lot of time on multi-platform games.

What will probably happen is that Sony will distribute their gaming announcements
across E3, TGS and Gamescom like last year. I would like for them to blow
their load at this E3.

Irrational, but I want Sony to straight up punch MS in the balls.

You are correct. They should refrain from doing so this E3.

Please God.

Do you really think Sony will spend more than 30 seconds talking about Vita at this point? And look at the bright side, if they spend any significant amount of time talking about morpheus, that means it's coming sooner rather than later. You don't spend time talking about a likely expensive peripheral that is 2 years away from release.

PS Now is worth spending time on, because it's going to be a pretty big deal and something we should all be excited about. It's a BC solution that might actually windup being better than actual hardware BC ever was.

I'm setting my expectations for a disappointing sony E3, man i'd kill for a syphon filter next gen game. gow, TLG, or Socom announce. I just don't think they will happen though. :\

I think that would be a good idea to be honest. Those other events just seem so small compared to E3 and Microsoft's lack of announcements after E3 didn't seem to matter.

Showing off a bunch of new IPs at smaller events with little gameplay footage or CG trailers really didn't stop the complains about "lack of announcements". I think if they showed all of those games at E3 the perception would be much different.
Also like to add because of their financial troubles I am guessing they can't afford to pump out as many games now, right?

Hmm...if you look at what's happening right now, that's not affecting them. All of their studios are hiring and working on unannounced games. Hell, even Guerrilla Cambridge and Sony Bend are working on AAA PS4 games now. They have a bunch of 2nd party developers making games for them as well.

I think Uncharted + The Order + Project Beast will be enough. And then there's all the third parties.

Microsoft will kick their teeth in, piss all over them, and throw them into a meat grinder if that wound up being the case. Uncharted doesn't move 10+ million copies like some of these supposed Microsoft exclusives will, and The Order is trying to exist as a 3rd person shooter with no multiplayer component in a world where online is basically assumed to be a thing in those kinds of games.

Microsoft is likely going to come out and give the E3 videogame equivalent of Garma Zabi's Funeral Speech (look it up). They have to go all-out, guns blazing because if they don't and sales of the X1 continue at the pace they currently are, there's a very real chance that Microsoft shareholders will kill the thing and take the L.

If Sony is complacent and this big Microsoft pushback happens, then we're in for one hell of a fight. Sony has a lead right now, but it's only a couple million and that could easily be diminished over the course of like 5-6 months if X1 sales start increasing at a rapid rate due to all of these announcements and the incoming price drop.

Videogames. Serious business.

The only IP MS has that can push 10+ million units is Halo. You know stuff like this reminds me of last year when people were claiming Microsoft was going to money hat every third party under the sun and bury Sony. Fun stuff.

I'm starting to have this niggling feeling that MS are going to massively upstage Sony this E3.

Me too, but I think that's partly due to Sony being so god damn quiet. I'm not hyped at all for their conference cause literally nothing has leaked lol...I guess that is a good thing though.

You say exclusives. As in plural. As in more than one. What IP does MS have that can continually sell over 10m+ units?

I'd like to know your answer.

I don't expect this to be everything but these are a few that I would guess at being present

The Order playable Demo
Driveclub playable
project beast mode
Uncharted /naughtygods tech demo
sizzle reel indies
sizzle / teaser reel of games for way in the future
Destiny
TLG - maybe only a logo and a date at the end of show,
Morpheus - Eve V possibly playable/demo, and some talk about Media molecule's latest project
PS4 sales boasting.

Just plenty of rumors. mort said he was hearing 2 major AAA excluisives. Plus talking about halo 5 early.

I wish sony could repeat e3 2009

Read on a thread on neogaf that MS had secured a major exclusive and that three + unannouced titkes would make their debut.. I think it was on the MS E3 topic...

My prediction, just for fun:

The Order gameplay
Driveclub gameplay
Planetside 2 gameplay
H1Z1 gameplay
Sales talk
Uncharted Collection announcement
A gameplay demo of something for Vita
A few PS3 game announcements
Destiny gameplay
Assassin's Creed gameplay
A demo of a boring sports game that goes on way too long
A trailer for a currently unannounced third party game, not exclusive.
Indie showcase
PS Now release date, platforms, and pricing
TV stuff from Sony Pictures
Uncharted 4 gameplay trailer
SSM new game teaser
TLG re-reveal trailer and release date

The only IP MS has that can push 10+ million units is Halo.

A new Gears that isn't a stopgap release like Judgement will move systems.

And I wasn't even talking about that. I'm referring to all of these rumors about games like Fallout, Mass Effect, Left 4 Dead, Star Wars, and games of that nature being potentially locked up.

If Microsoft somehow managed to get Fallout 4 as an exclusive, it might be one of the biggest "fuck you" moments in the history of the industry. WAY bigger than FFXIII going to the 360.

Of course, this is all based on rumors and normally this kind of stuff would be taken with a grain of salt, HOWEVER, the fact that MS themselves are letting all of this info about some pretty major titles get out to the public before E3 is unusual. Some really big announcements are likely to happen and we haven't heard a peep out of Sony yet.

- Gears is not coming out anytime soon.
- Yeah that is not happening.
- Counteracting bad NPD numbers and (probably) extremely bad WW numbers.

Like I said this reminds me of the same time last year when people were saying the same shit.

There it is again. I will ask this again...
Tell me this, when was the last time Naughty Dog or for that matter Sony first party did CG trailers?
Also, unlike MS, Europe and Japan are important to Sony's PlayStation plans. They have to split their games across these events. I don't think an internet meme is going to change that.

Microsoft will kick their teeth in, piss all over them, and throw them into a meat grinder if that wound up being the case. Here is the thing, a lot of the people who wanted Xbone have already bought it or are going to buy it after June 9th. If Xbone picks up after June it is going to be because of it's price drop and not because they announced bunch of games that are coming out in 2015/16. A person who is interested in Halo 5 can wait until fall 2015, if s/he has already waited this long.

And I wasn't even talking about that. I'm referring to all of these rumors about games like Fallout, Mass Effect, Left 4 Dead, Star Wars, and games of that nature being potentially locked up.

Every fucking E3...

Talk about PS3 and PS4 sales
Something about how they couldn't have done this without us, the gamers
Project Morpheus I don't think will make an apperance
PS Now
Nothing about the PS Vita, maybe another port or something about remote play
Uncharted 4 trailer
The Order 1886 demo
Maybe another Destiny demo, and probably some other upcoming game (AC:U, etc.)
Indie showcase
Talk about some third party partnerships (Ubisoft and Activision)
Talk about some media apps and video partnerships
Something about TLOU being available the next week for PS4
Teaser Trailer for new game (Santa Monica or GG)

Talking about Morpheus is a bad thing? Sony has 2 hours anyway, they could spend half an hour on that stuff and still have 90 minutes to talk about PS4 games.

- Counteracting bad NPD numbers and (probably) extremely bad WW numbers.

Like I said this reminds me of the same time last year when people were saying the same shit.

Well, I'm not the one saying it. I'm just saying that between the rumors, price drop on the day of their E3 presser, and the fact that theyre leaking info out on key titles that would normally be saved for their show...something's up with MS.

If anything, I'm on Team Playstation and I would be super-pissed off if a company like Bethesda actually gave MS exclusive rights to the console version of something like a Fallout 4.
