Concept video for new Xbox One updates

Good obvious stuff.

I think Microsoft would rather sell you premium themes though.
I'm sure they would rather sell you premium themes, but the 360 offered the ability to use an image of your choice as wallpaper, so I don't see why they wouldn't do that on the One at some point, as well as offering paid-for premium themes.

Cool video too! I like his ideas.

I don't several of those honestly.

Give me:
Auto sign in
Continue to make every app faster
External Drive support
Ability to rearrange your pinned tiles
Backgrounds
Preloading and preordering

Half true, the bottom half was a big grey blob.

Those themes make things looks so messy, but the solid colors looked nice.

Making those tiny tiles looked kind of silly.

The in game guide at the end made me laugh, because it's really not that different from what we have now. I've never completely understood people's complaints about hitting the home button and being pulled to the home screen.

The guide is fucking stupid.

"What if we put another dashboard on top of the dashboard!? AWESOME"

No.

Stupid.

lol exactly

But there are people that want this.

Yup. Especially with his second to last suggestion which made the home page very social and instant access to parties etc...

If they make it more like WP 8.1 I would be happy. They live tiles and customization would be nice. Also cortana integration will be very nice.

The backgrounds look messy with all the tiles, perhaps a white banner behind all the metro boxes with the background above and below that would look a lot cleaner.

I would just like them to fix the bug where if you leave your cable box on with the tv app open and either change input or turn the tv off with it on, the picture refuses to refresh. It's so damn annoying.

The Win 8.1 customisation stuff looks pretty good, although some of the screens he had were a little cluttered for my tastes but the more options the better.

Didn't realise the Xbone didn't have a low battery notification, I've seen one plenty of times on my PS4 but I think I've only had to replace the batteries once on the Xbone so far, it has great battery life (compared to the DS4) and IIRC the rumble turns off if you have low battery so that's sort of a warning, and you can always check the battery charge level now anyway.

What I really want is to be able to play music in the background (fully controllable on the Xbox and not snapped shrinking my game). Would also love Windows 8.1 app compatibility.

Yep, that's when I change the batteries too. It's handy that it does that.

If they do implement a low battery notification, it just hope it doesn't kick in until the batteries are really low. Either that, or they should have a notification that pops up just once when the battery life is low, and maybe another when it's critical. I would rather not get repeated notifications and the flashing guide ring on the 360's controller was a bit annoying because it kicked in too early.

That's really weird. Can't imagine Microsoft would be too happy about him showing that publicly.

I made this video for my YouTube channel and the channel alone. The concepts within this video are purely things I'd like to see in the future and are in no way representative of the thoughts or intentions of Microsoft, nor am I in any way related to the team that controls the dash UI.

My YouTube channel is completely separate from my position within the company. :)

Just because he works for Microsoft, it doesn't mean that this is anything official. Those are probably just his personal suggestions.

EDIT: Well, there you go. A nice video, by the way.

Great vid. Pretty much all of these are things MS shouldn't even need to be told about, as they make so much sense, except the guide... that seems redundant. The home screen would already allow similar access based on the other suggestions.

I'm personally more interested in functionality upgrades rather than personalisation. My most desired features are:

Background music, with game music separated from game sounds (ala Xbox 360).
Smartglass remote play.
Windows Remote Desktop Connection (wishful thinking).
Skype screen broadcasting.
Allow the use of 360 peripherals (never happening...).

A hardware revision with 360 BC would cause me to upgrade instantly as well.

Looking forward to the PS4 video.

The tile customization stuff would make things so much better for front end navigation. And the background options would be nice and are probably a no brainer for MS to add. Probably wouldn't take much to integrate.

Fair enough! Nice job, by the way. Think you should ping it round to the UI team ;)
