This isn't particularly constructive or positive, especially when the project is probably only barely going to meet/exceed funding.
How are they going to fit the names of over 13.000 people in the credits? Either longest or tiniest credit roll ever?
That's what I said in their twitch chat and one of the guys in there said "Don't even talk to me about Assassins' Creed credits. I work on them"Still wouldn't be as long as Ubisoft credits.
Just when I had lost hope... what turned it around?
Mighty No. 9 had over 67K backers through the Kickstarter campaign plus more through PayPal. That's going to be a long ass list. With over 13.000 backers, those are going to be the hardest to read or longest credits ever...
Those posts on the first page hahahaha
Guess this shows you can very successful kick starters even when your game is not coming to PC.
Just when I had lost hope... what turned it around?
Barkerville.
No PC![]()
Console only with no PC version? I don't think they'll make it.
Wow, I was just cleaning out my place and pulled out an old copy of amplitude. I loved this game back in the day.
That being said, KS without PC is kind of a kiss of death. I don't mean this in a mean spirited or port begging way, I genuinely have not seen a KS that is this high make it without a PC version announced.
First time I've seen a kick starter with no PC version.
Ctrl+F "PC"
![]()
Hope they make it though!
For reference: I made a list with video game projects with more funding than $775K
(starred ones also have an intial goal higher than this)
Number of games not on PC: 0 (unless I missed something)
I don't think the list is meant to be dismissive of a console-exclusive kickstarter, just that there isn't a ton of precedence for such a thing. Kickstarter, up until this point, has relied pretty heavily on the PC community for its game projects.
It'll be interesting to see how this turns outs.
Not sure why they anchored it to that name if Sony still owns it. Personally, I'm only interested in a PC version, but I'm sure there would be happy with XB1 and 360 versions that they could do if they changed the name and some minor details.
Put down 20.
Never played amplitude, but it does sound interesting. Also strange that this is probably the one kickstarter game that isn't coming to pc.
The list of platforms is just abnormal. Kickstarters are most successful when they also support PC.
edit: Sony owns the IP? wut. This kickstarter is just silly. They could easily make a spiritual sequel which they actually own.
No PC and 775k
I have doubts this will be a success.
They're going to lose a lot of potential backers without a PC version.
That's proven to be the undoing of quite a few Kickstarters in the past. I mean, I don't personally care, I have every platform, I'm just warning them.
Not gonna fund a Sony exclusive, but I hope it will turn out great for those who do.
Cringeworthy.
I think the lack of a PC version is really hurting them. As its been shown earlier in the thread all the $500k+ base Kickstarter all got successfully funded with PC as the typical main platform and other platforms as stretch goals.
I'm very tempted to back as I love me some Harmonix, but I have a hard time booting up any of my last gen systems as it is, and I'm not going to have a PS4 until sometime next year or maybe later even. I'll add my voice to the sentiment that they should have just forgone the name and licensing headache and just made it a spiritual successor thus opening it to other platforms and allowing for a longer KS campaign. Anything on KS that doesn't have a PC version is just at such a disadvantage and they're rebuilding the game from the ground up so why not? Either way, I still hope it gets funded.
If it's playstation only sony should be footing the bill. Like people are pointing out, why would I be funding something is it isn't going to be on PC?
Why isn't this on the playstation blog? Why isn't this on the ps3 / Ps4 dash board? This was set up to fail.
Agreed. I know that some irrational folks believe that it was port-begging to bring up the lack of PC, but most folks brought it up out of concern because gaming KS pitches succeed when PC is the platform.
That isn't to say that a big console exclusive won't succeed, but we just don't have evidence that they have until this point. Therefore it's safer to promise a PC version first, and then move to other platforms later. I appreciate the fact that this wasn't an option for Amplitude but this doesn't change the rules of how these run.
I still want them to succeed, but I don't know if it's going to happen right now.
If this doesn't make it, I don't think it will be the abbreviated fund raising period.
Kickstarter doesn't have a history of crowdfunding console-exclusive games, plain and simple. What kickstarter does have is a history of shunning platform-exclusive games like Republique, which was also in the same position as Harmonix's... until they reneged on "their vision" and promised a Mac and PC port halfway through the fundraising.
I'm not completely pessimistic about this kickstarter's chances, as there have been projects that bounced back, but I can pretty definitively say at this moment they aren't making any stretch goals if things remain the same.
775K? Is this a joke?
The fact that Sony holds the rights and it can only be on PlayStation, kills virtually all hope at this succeeding. It's really unfortunate. I'd love a new Frequency/ Amplitude. If this was also on PC, I'm sure there would be more backers. I don't think console exclusive games and gamers are ready for crowd funding
So why did they go with a Sony owned IP instead of going the spiritual successor road and having complete freedom? I dont think the Amplitude name brings much to the table and its extra stupid if Sony isnt or co funding it.
Also who thought doing a Kickstarter without a PC version was a good idea?
And begging the PlayStation community for money when you spent the entire last generation being best buddies with Microsoft.
This whole thing is poorly thought out.
Yeah, it's really weird. All of the "spiritual successor" Kickstarters never had a problem to convey people the know-how of their creators. Why would it be any different in Harmonix' case? Especially since their name is probably better known than Amplitude.
Having both a high funding goal and betting completely on Sony hardware is a dangerous risk to take. Personally, I can tell you that they lost me with the lack of a PC version. Sure, I could play it on PS3 and I'm probably going to pick up a PS4 sooner or later, but Indie games are just something I prefer to play on the PC.
775k and no PC, get out of here !
has a game without a pc version ever got successfully kickstarted
i don't pay that much attention
All of the games in that have at least a PC version. Plus, at certain tiers there were bonus games thrown in exclusive to computers as well as the alpha versions.
I can't think of a single one.
I think it could have also benefitted from a lower target by ditching the Amplitude name and going PC/Linux/Mac with a PlayStation family stretch-goal.
Jeff Minter has been making Tempest sequels for years without paying Atari a penny. Just change the bloody name.
Kinda what I've been wondering. The amount of people who aren't donating because there's no PC edition is pretty big, from what I understand. If I had money, I still wouldn't donate, because it's not on platforms I enjoy playing on, so why support it?
I don't particularly care about Amplitude but the Harmonix guys seem like a good bunch so I'm sad on their behalf this is failing.
But how in the hell nobody saw a $750,000 PS4 only Kickstarter not failing is beyond me. The vast majority of kickstarters that succeed have a PC option. It wa a dumb idea to pursue a license nobody cared about when they could have made a spiritual successor and got a lot more support.
Thanks for calling John, whats up?
- "Why aren't you making a spiritual successor instead of making Amplitude 2?"
Thanks Mark, whats on your mind?
- "Exclusive kickstarts fail, you guys are terrible, why isn't it on the PC and XBOX?"
Next caller is Steve
- "Why don't you take all that cash you wipe your ass with and fund this project?!"
This KS is not raking money as fast as it should. Never knew PS Nation was so cheap.![]()
You should update that list with Amplitude now.
Turns out, non-pc console exclusive kickstarters can be pretty successful, and it was achieved in just 18 days for a game that bombed on PS2 more than 10 years ago. I imagine series that were more popular back in the day will manage to bring in even more money, and I believe this kickstarter will be a model for future console exclusive kickstarters(if only for the fact that OG developers want to revisit their old games but can't make it multiplatform because the IP is owned by someone else).
It's funny when this thing really exploded a few days ago(around pages 30), the whining about a PC version suddenly stopped.
Harmonix didn't explain things up front why this couldn't be a spiritual successor, and thus no PC version. When they actually explained that Sony owns certain gameplay mechanics they couldn't do a proper Amplitude without, sticking with the proper name made sense. It's funny when this thing really exploded a few days ago(around pages 30), the whining about a PC version suddenly stopped.
But the ps nation is cheap though.Reposting these posts from the beginning of the Kickstarter / Thread as a wall is pointless.
Most of these people posted it with the experience of former (failed) kickstarters and under the premise that a rather high $$$ goal + 18 days + only on limited platform + rather niche title would have only a slim chance to get funded.
But the ps nation is cheap though.
The stretch goal being online MP rather than interesting licensed songs bums me out a little. Would have preferred to get Cherry Lips by Garbage in the game and compete on leaderboards than play it online. But, if that's what they want to go for then best of luck to them![]()
isthis supposed to be some sort of "wall of shame" i doubt any of these people wanted the game to fail or anything, you just have to be honest that a console exclusive kickstarter is risky for all sorts of reasons. I'm glad they pulled it off. but people were totally right to be cautious about it.
They aren't cheap tho.![]()

If this happens, that would be awesome.
Yes. Yes yes yes yes yes yes. So much yes. This needs to happen. NEEDS to!
I think it's more awareness than anything else. I doubt 99% of console gamers even know about Kickstarter and what it's for. PC is where it attention has been focused for a while now. Of course I'm referring only to gaming related projects.
But the ps nation is cheap though.
TIL: Nearly all console owners live under rocks.
I'm pretty sure most people that use the internet fairly regularly know what kickstarter is.
Harmonix is excited to announce that the following artists will contribute to the Amplitude reboot with original music:
Anamanaguchi (Scott Pilgrim Saves the World)
C418 (Minecraft)
Danny Baranowsky (Super Meat Boy, Canabalt)
Freezepop (FreQuency, Amplitude)
Jim Guthrie (Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP)
Kasson Crooker (FreQuency, Amplitude, Symbion Project)
George & Jonathan
These artists will join our talented artists at Harmonix to create an incredible soundtrack for the new Amplitude.
I'm shocked that online feature was a stretch goal and not already inside
Wow! Gotta admit, I didn't think it would make it, gotta give props to Harmonix for not giving up and basically busting their butt to get to the goal. It'll be some delicious crow.
Yes. Yes yes yes yes yes yes. So much yes. This needs to happen. NEEDS to!
Even though they never announced a Vita stretch goal,I think it's really possible to see the game releasing on Vita, considering that the Sony team lead by Giocorsi is precisely in charge of bringing third party titles to Vita.
I'm shocked that online feature was a stretch goal and not already inside
Agreed, 300k plus more just for online multiplayer?

Let's outsource it to Gamespy, they specialise in online multiplayer and are really successful with it.
