Just cancel it altogether.
Nope, we got a script, stars and a date. Can't derail those plans.
Just cancel it altogether.
The fuck? Been saying this. It's not a new opinion by any stretch.
It's also not "anti-marvel" bullshit. Unless you glossed over the part where I want the movie to be good and I hope that it's fun.
I don't give a shit which company makes my entertainment, I just care that they hire the right people to make it entertaining. Be that Marvel, or Paramount, or New Line, or any other giant multimedia conglomerate is funding these hundred-million-dollar indulgences into my adolescence.
Its entirely possible Wright wanted another massive delay, and Marvel decided that the eight years they gave him already was enough. They bumped this movie from Phase 1 to Phase 3 for Wright, maybe they just wanted to see some actual forward momentum?
My interest in the film probably just got renewed.
Later in the week Wright told MTV News that there was no timetable for the film "Because that character isn't one of their biggest properties, it's not like a tentpole deadline ... It's more like me and [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige saying, 'Let's make a really good script.' We've always agreed on that 'Let's make a good script that works, that's all about a great genre film, and that isn't necessarily relying on anything else'".[17] At the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con International, Wright said that Ant-Man would not fit in the chronology of The Avengers as "it didnt work with the kind of the angle that we were going to do with the origin that Id written"
In January 2013, Feige stated that Ant-Man would be part of Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.[26] In May 2013, Feige indicated that the screenplay needed to be modified in order to fit into the universe because the project had been in development before the first Iron Man film.
In August 2013 after Joss Whedon, director of Avengers: Age of Ultron, announced that Henry Pym would not be Ultron's creator, Wright said Ultron was never a part of the story of Ant-Man.[31] Wright elaborated, "[Ultron] was never in my script. Because even just to sort of set up what Ant-Man does is enough for one movie",[32] and described Ant-Man as a stand-alone film. He said it will fit into to the larger continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, explaining that "It is pretty standalone in the way we're linking it to the others. I like to make it standalone because I think the premise of it needs time. I want to put the crazy premise of it into a real world, which is why I think Iron Man really works because it's a relatively simple universe; it's relatable.
Yeah people throwing anti MCU shit sound stupid right now.
They let Gunn and Russos do there thing.
They delayed Ant Man for Wright.
They let him write the script for 8 years.
Something else happened.
i don't have enough gifs to express myself right now
this is all very upsetting
Wright's entire fanbase must be located on gaf because his box office sure doesn't support a larger one.
I love the "we won't get Wright's unique vision now." Dude was making a heist movie. Jason Statham is in one of those like every other year.
My assumption based on nothing is that this is entirely based around scheduling and marvel didn't want to or couldn't justify pushing the film back anymore.
Seeing some people speculating that Cornish is about to take over for Wright - which might be best case, as Cornish & Wright are friends, have collaborated before, and if anyone is going to take that vision across the finish line more or less intact, he could probably do it.
No one gives a shit about Ant Man.
Cancel it for a Squirrel Girl movie to launch Phase 3 instead

Try this one:

Don't think my hype has ever gone from as high as a skyscraper to as low as a molehill like this.
I'm going to puke if I hear the word 'vision' one more time.
Would Cornish do it if Wright got bumped though?

Some quotes on the development
You wrong man
Yeah I bet Marvel is shaking in their boots at the idea of the blow to their geek cred losing some niche British director will cause
This would have been sorted out long long ago. It's not like the script was just written the other day. The execs at Marvel would have also been familiar with his style when he started the project, and it's probably why he was recruited.
So who do we think will take over?
Cornish?
You wrong man
Only with Aronofsky directingCancel it for a Squirrel Girl movie to launch Phase 3 instead
good, but not enough anger

Give me your stomach lining.
Welp
Guess I can stop pretending to give a damn about Ant-Man
They should have had Black Panther up next instead of Antman.
Find me a movie of his that's grossed over 100 million.
Black Panther is never going to happen

Should have, not would have. Variety reports that the new director has already been chosen, which suggests that this had been brewing for a while.
I suspect that Feige et al knew going in that they didn't see eye-to-eye with Wright, but cynically guessed that the ticking clock of the production start date would make him more amenable to compromise. They guessed wrong, but it appears they had a back-up plan.
No one gives a shit about Ant Man. The whole appeal of this project rested on Edgar Wright elevating the property through his own style and abilities as a writer/director.
Marvel studios letting this happen is a huge regression for them after a ton of smart decisions.
When the story DOES come out, it's sure as hell going to be interesting. EVEN IF it's amicable. These sorts of skid-outs aren't all THAT normal. I mean, they happen, but damn.
If they have a replacement director locked in, why haven't they announced him? That's worrisome in of itself too. We'll see if Disney comes out with a formal announcement in the next few days but I worry that it'll be a rent-a-director coming on.
This Ant-Man hating is pissing me off more this news.
