Not necessarily. This is opening a whole can of worms, but I think some people are just born broken.

Their minds aren't wired the same way a normal person's mind is. Perhaps they're missing a gene, have the wrong allele, etc... Chemically, the system isn't functioning the way it's supposed to.

I had an ex-girlfriend who was Mexican/White and she was EXTREMELY racist against Mexicans. She had her reasons I guess but was still facepalm-ish.

Yep.

Lived through some seriously fucked up shit as a child, and while I am not perfect, I'm pretty normal all around. As are my siblings.
 
This is just really sad. I can't fathom living in such mental anguish and torture, and seeing the manifesto shows how fucked this guy was. It's truly horrifying.
 
Being in the us it's always funny to see gun nuts freaking out. The uk has the right idea with banning this shit hope we eventually follow through. Nobody needs guns.
 
Considering how smart (albeit twisted) he sounds, it's a shame he couldn't comprehend how desperately he needed help. It's a damn shame that he felt like this was the only way to lash back at the world for the way he was feeling. What's even more sad is that he took six other (innocent) lives in the process.

I can't even imagine how you could go on as a parent knowing that your own flesh-and-blood did something like this. The amount of regret must be crushing.

This is pretty fascinating, although obviously controversial. If true, our brains can be predisposed to violent or other criminal behaviours, but it isn't wholly deterministic.
 
It's obviously a complex situation and blaming one thing or the other isn't really right. People who use this to further a political point are despicable for certain.

He WAS getting help... it just not working out for him or it was too late. :( Two psychiatrists and concerned parents over his videos a month ago. Even a visit from the cops and welfare check just got this fucker through the radar. :\

Lead paint has also been linked to criminal activity. Exposure weakens the self-control impulses in the brain, and countries consistently show crime rates dropping starting about ~2 decades after paint/gas are banned in the country.

This kid had therapy. The cops talked to him. He still went on a rampage. What is your point? Crazy people are always going to kill other people yes. However I would rather take my chances against someone without a fucking firearm driving down the street.

Ps. I own a few guns myself but it's time we stop pretending what the problem is.

For those freaking out over that thread Devolution posted:

I have two roommates. They're both pretty chill guys (usually).

One of them gets really upset whenever he hears our upstairs neighbors having sex. He gets REALLY upset. They're not that loud to be honest. Just some squeecking can be heard. It's usually only about 5 minutes before all is quiet. Myself and my other roommate don't mind.

The other roommate gets super pissed though. He starts slamming shit really loudly and shouting when it happens. Furthermore he gets pissed at us because we're not upset about it. None of us are getting laid. It's been about a year and a half since either the roommate that gets angry got laid, and about the same amount of time for myself as well. I don't think the other roommate has ever done anything with a woman. According to the angry roommate though, it's natural for animals to get upset when they know someone else is getting laid and they're not. He says we should be just as pissed as he is.

But I'm not. I don't care. Frankly, it's starting to become an issue between the three of us. The upstairs neighbors had a 30 minute session this afternoon, and the environment in our apartment has been absolutely toxic ever since.

That's just the thing, his parents sent him to a string of people who tried to help him sort out his apparent lack of social skills and frequent rage issues. He was prescribed Risperidone, which he didn't take. They did everything short of have him arrested as a threat to himself and others.

You'd like to think this could have been prevented 'if only' for a number of factors, but honestly I think the parents did plenty to get this kid help before went through with his rampage. The saying goes if someone really, really wants to kill, then they're going to. This guy, really, really wanted to kill.

Same here. My dad was an alcoholic, verbally abused us (oldest of 3 boys), I was picked on as a kid all the time, I have little to no social skills with anyone (which might help to explain my marital issues I've posted about before in some threads), and I loose my temper and get frustrated really quick.

Both my younger brother and I are in the Air Force and I've got a 3 year old little boy who is my life.

My other brother, he's a drug addict and has driven my parents pretty much to a divorce. They've bent over backwards to try to get him help and he just doesn't care. Truth be told, I'm surprised he's still alive.

My point is that a person's childhood, while having an impact on their development, isn't the end all be all. Some people come from privileged backgrounds (like this guy did) and still have serious issues that don't get addressed, and then there's people who come from seriously screwed up environments and don't have issues.

The parents got him help with multiple therapists and called the police on him. What else could they've done?

If he actually put his efforts towards doing things that will attract women and not towards his twisted purview, he'd be raking in the women and guys would WANT to hang out with.He placed his efforts and resources in the absolute wrong direction.

It won't happen, the US isn't the UK, in both size and culture. There's no way in hell you're going to get the western states to agree to overturn the 2nd amendment. Truth be told, if it even got that far, you'd have people try to start another civil war. That crap that happened in Nevada with Bundy's ranch, it would be 1,000x bigger if the government tried to overturn the 2nd amendment.

The problem with the mental health is "do you think they're crazy or just venting in extreme anger?" When does it go "too far?" Then you have the "I'm not sick, I don't need help" syndrome of getting the person to go to the therapist for health.

There's a stigma with mental health, sure. I don't discount that, but it's not the "magic bullet" when getting people the help they need isn't a slam-dunk.

Also this. If you have someone with mental health and they are prescribed pills, if they don't take it: It's the same as if they didn't go to therapy/"get help."

I think short of locking the kid up things wouldn't have helped if he didn't accept he had a mental issue with his virginity and talking/associating with people.

He had no concept of how to interact with potential partners. He simply expected people to walk up to him and want to screw him.
 
If you yourself don't realize that you have a problem and that you are ill it's extremely difficult to recover from that. You make all kinds of irrational judgements against other people and things because you are sick. I commend his parents for recognizing he needed help and trying to get it for him but it didn't work.
 
Theres something unshakeable reading those BB.com threads. Its vBulletin. It looks exactly like GAF. The timestamps are from just a few days ago. Its just really creepy thinking about that stuff. And those videos. I've only watched a couple minutes of them, but its so rehearsed. He doesn't sound like he believes what hes saying. Hes not talking, hes acting. Thats sooooooo disturbing.

I don't have anything to add, I'm just completely baffled. That manifesto reads sarcastically with the exclamation points and the use of italics and capitals.
