Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

Someone didn't play Other M.
You're lucky.

I never considered that Ridley. It was something cosplaying as Ridely...badly.

I can't get over how horrific that Ridley picture is. It looks... it looks like a deformed Kaiju or something. It's actually almost beautiful, in a way.

I guess it's better than just sticking the Brawl Ridley on the picture and calling it a day.

Caution, Smash Bros. "newcomer" here.

I played the N64 game a little but probably no more than an hour or so. Didn't play Melee. Bought Brawl, but was in college at the time and needless to say I got little time with it -- sure it's a party-like game but I like to have sessions on my own to really delve in and learn things and unlock things and such.

That out of the way, what would be the best way to prepare for the new one? I have a Wii U so I suppose I could pick up Brawl again...

What do you mean "prepare" for the new one?

Set your expectations low and avoid picking up Melee and/or getting the Project M mod for Brawl unless you really want your experience with the Wii U version to be a disappointment.

Eh, it's tough to say. If you don't have any way to play Melee I'd get Brawl, unlock everything and play through it etc. and then try out Project M.

Ridley's snout isn't Pterodactyl-like anymore and more Shark-like now. So scary as fuck now.

This is what villagers use to describe decapitating demons who feast on children's flesh.

Ridley's cousin, Rodney.

No, I'm pretty sure that's Satan.

Welcome!

May as well roll with Brawl since that has the most content. (If you've been interested in learned competitive Smash, get Melee instead.)

Basically just curious which one is the best, I guess, if there is one that stands out from the others as being the one to primarily play to get good at the series. Again, I don't know much about them. If they're all samey, I guess it wouldn't matter.

This makes it seem like the forecast for the Wii U version isn't good :(

Not necessarily super competitive, I'll likely never be good enough to hold my own but I would still at least like to have fun and not completely suck.

Well each game has different mechanics and the speed varies from game to game. If you want to get ready for it, I would say get Brawl since it has most of the roster returning in it. Now the combos will be different in Smash U but at least you can get the gist of the game.

Thanks. I'll likely try out most of the characters and work at trying to figure out which one I would like as a main.

er......I'd go with Project M then, because that's probably what SSB4 is gonna be the most like minus some ATs like wavedashing
(AND you get Mewtwo and Roy!)

Nah, the WiiU game is fine.

People just had high expectations for Brawl that were demolished when they found out it was slower than Melee and had most of Melee's high-tier mechanics stripped out.

If you're not very concerned about competitive just pick whatever.

I won't even pretend to know what Project M is. :p

Eh, from the replies I can gather that there is no real preferred installment. I'll just pick up Brawl then.

Is it reasonable to expect Knuckles?

I think it's more likely than most people would think. Sega and Nintendo are pretty solid buddies nowadays, and Knuckles fits into a lot of criteria. He's very popular amongst the series he is from, even having his name in a few titles. He's likely to be a semi clone sharing a few moves with Sonic such as recovery or down B.

My formal stance is, wouldn't be surprised to see him, would enjoy having him.

Brawl is fine. PM is mainly for people who prefer Melee, but if you haven't played Melee you won't notice anything.

Awesome, good to know. Sounds like that applies to me. :p

Oh one more thing, I'm really confused about this game having a 3DS and Wii U version. What's up with that, are they two different games?

I don't think Sakurai would add 2 characters from the same company, let alone the same series. And rightfully so. Knuckles hasn't earned a spot in Smash, and he would add very little to the game. If another Sonic character ever gets in it'd be Tails or Robotnick, but both of those are extremely, extremely unlikely; at least for this game.

Edit: suggestions like this are what actually make me glad Sakurai doesn't listen to his fans too much. Not to mention the ridiculous alternate world many miiverse posters live in.

No need to be so nasty about it, and I wasn't even suggesting anything. All I said is that I wouldn't be upset to see him.

Also, I don't see how Knuckles would add any less to the game than any other potential character. Not that I'm rooting for him here, but it just seems like such a silly thing to say.

They will have the same roster. But different modes. Like Smash Run is for the 3DS only.

why did I ever trade those games in. v.v

Yeah I wish I never got rid of my gamecube lol. But for some reason I kept those 2 games.
