I'll never understand why people think their lack of imagination would somehow apply to talented people who make VIDEO GAMES for a living.
They could probably make a damn water bottle with "Nintendo" as it's logo be a unique, and fun addition to the roster.
Okay, so two hypothetical scenarios:
1. What if Ridley was a boss/stage encounter, but there was a way to play bosses in a special mode? So he wouldn't be usable in competitive matches, but he could be full-size and playable in some form.
2. What if Ridley wasn't playable at all, but somehow we got Firebrand and he had a purple alt? Not remotely the same thing, but you could play him and pretend it's tiny RIdley and it'd be a nice nod to fans.
Would these be fair compromises? Personally as a Ridley supporter (who never played Ghosts & Goblins) I think either would be nice.

When it comes to the roster, I don't think there's much room for compromise; a character is either in or out. I hardly think it will placate Ridley fans if Sakurai says, "no, this character you really want isn't in. But here's this other character who looks kinda similar! So the earliest age where I could have gotten into gaming would still be N64 era. Or at least late SNES. Never had either though lol.
I remember more clearly going to Best Buy and seeing the N64 hooked up with Pokemon Stadium being sold.
Wonder what the earliest game they ever played was.

I honestly like Diddy's just fine, but I feel like Donkey Kong's should change. Rambi would be great, but I also wouldn't mind if a bunch of Rocket Barrels appeared all around the stage and he just shot himself between them, killing anyone in his path.I hope Donkey Kong or Diddy's Final Smash is changed so they ride Rambi into the battle.

I could see there being a mode where you get to play as kinda watered down characters like bosses and assist trophies. They could even release NFC figures for this I guess. Make it some kind of mini game ordeal.
Edit: Action figure mode where they just disregard balance? Haha

For Pre-Hype, I would assume so. At same time, it's not fair to comparing to other old games' hypes since NeoGAF is way bigger now than it was in the past.
Uhh? It's not right. Dojo thread itself had like 120k posts. (Including the posts after the game are released in North America) That was before they set up the new rule about 20k limitation.

I think there was only one pre-release Dojo thread for Brawl on GAF (maybe 2 since I think one got locked). But it reached a high amount of posts. I'm pretty sure we passed that in total for Smash 4 threads.
