Watching the trailer and thinking about what could be the premise.

Maybe it could be this (comic references):

Maybe this is Ultron's origin is going to be. They appear to be setting up the Kree as some invasion force with those Ronan shots, so maybe the Kree are under assimilation from the Phalanx (Annihilation Conquest).

Then, when they purge the Phalanx from the Kree, it manifests into Ultron for the Avengers at Earth. I dunno, definitely seems like the Kree are the enemies in this movie.

That's quite a leap you've made. Literally none of that could be inferred from the two trailers. It's the Guardians versus Ronan/Nebula fighting over an Infinity Stone. Seems pretty transparent to me.

Ultron's origin is more likely stemming from stuff that happened in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, given that he's an Avenger villain first and Captain America is in an Avenger and they're both going to be in the next Avengers movie.

Not sure why you blew away the comic spoilers.

And if it's so apparent, why is Knowhere and Kyln involved? These two locations are deeply related to the Annihilation series, and Ultron's just around the corner. How can you not think that they could have a bunch of crossover stuff?

The Kyln does not factor into Annihilation: Conquest, the story in which Ultron is the villain, at all.

Knowhere is there because that's where the Guardians operate. That has nothing to do with Ultron at all.

Ultron is an Avengers villain first and foremost. His origin is on earth, not out in space. I've seen no indication that that wouldn't be the case here. That's a leap.

Guardians will have crossover stuff: Thanos (Avengers) and Collector (Thor 2) and the Kree (Agents of SHIELD). Probably more.

If anything, it seems that Ultron would be the origin for the Phalanx, not the other way around. The Winter Soldier already set precedent for
the Insight algorithm
existing, and it's highly likely that they use this as an origin for Ultron. It could infect an Iron Man suit at first, or, hell, even some prototype Hydra tech suit before Ultron gains a body of his own.

Then it's not a hard jump for it to resurface a phase or two later, now having piggybacked a spaceship/hero into space to infect the Kree for an Annihilation: Conquest movie starring the Guardians and/or Nova. You could even combine it a bit with Annihilation to use the Phalanx and/or Kree as the destructive force that leads to Nova being the last member of the Corps.

GotG will have little to do with AoU.

Rhodey needs to be in the Captain Marvel film. US Air Force and all that.

Among other reasons

Can someone please explain me the continuity of Earth-691 and Earth-616? Is Earth-691 where the original Guardians resided and is it separate from all the other Marvel characters - does all the other action we've seen since 60's happen mainly in Earth-616? Meaning, is the Earth-616 the default?

Or did something happen in the then original Earth-691 Marvel Universe sometime which separated it from the continuity and turned into the Earth-616 we follow now?

Earth 616 is standard Marvel. 691 was used solely for the original Guardians of the Galaxy comic (and makes a small return in the Abnett/Lanning run).

616 is the default present tense. You can think of it this way: Future tense stuff (Like the original Guardians stuff) tends to be in an alternate reality for the sake of writers not having to be beholden to it when writing in the present tense. So Earth-691 would be considered one possible future for Earth-616, as would the 2099 universe (Earth-928).

I haven't read anything since Dark Reign, what series is this? Good to see that Rhodey is still hitting on all the women.

Also they should announce a Captain Marvel movie and have it be Monica Rambeau. I would love to see peoples reaction.
I guess this is late but the new marvel now Captain Marvel.

I didn't actually know that the original Guardians happens in the future. That clears it up.

Could be the most fun movie of the summer,

Thought I am worried that MARVEL might be over-saturating the market with their properties.

its like the 4th MARVEL IP this year alone

I don't think people consider Spiderman or Xmen films or anything FOX/Sony "Marvel" anymore. They are films using marvels IP for ...i dunno what the hell they are doing with the IP honestly. Marvel has this and Capt America and Big Hero 6.

A lot of people don't have a clue. In the past week I've had two separate friends talk about how awesome it'd be to have Spider-Man in the Avengers. When I explained to them they don't own the rights to certain characters and those movie universes were separate one was very surprised to hear that and the other didn't really process it and kept daydreaming about it.

let them dream ...i still do from time to time. And yes many have no awareness of that situation. But the amt of people who do know about the distinction is large too. We all assumed a huge minority of people know or care about this stuff, but i think 8+ movies in ...a large fanbase knows plenty about the chars and situations. Anecdotal stories about someone we know isn't going to represent whats really going on, comicon is huge for a reason, the net, forums, blogs, youtube, interviews, podcasts, dedicated websites. There are plenty of people who know and can reasonably be called the dedicated fanbase that support a large portion of these films, and know what "Marvel" is directly doing and what other studios are doing.

I think the situation is probably a bit different where I live. There is a subcommunity for comics and it is growing but I think it's a much smaller niche than it is in America. The movies do really well here and lots of people my age grew up with the Batman and Spider-Man cartoon but most of them never explored stuff beyond that. I'm aware this is still anecdotal, but I'm basing that assessment on more than just those two conversations last week.

i only dream of FF coming home to Marvel, but i agree that most people have no idea x men / spider man are owned by a different company.

which is a shame, as i'd hate for the mcu to suffer because of sony/ fox's movies.

Wow, the GotG hype really died down.

The hype never dies for me, just been busy!

Interesting that a third trailer has been classified so soon. I am pretty sure you are right in that it will mostly be the same as Trailer #2. But I guess we'll find out very soon. It seems kind of redundant to have an alternate cut of the trailer with the exact same length unless there are significant difference. What would they cut 1 second of even?

Depressing MCU news these past few days must have something to do with that.
Plus, the movie is still far away.

Not gonna watch that new trailer. Can't risk being spoiled too much like TWS trailers did to me.

Me want, both as figures & as Lego Marvel DLC (I can't stand the costume they gave Star-Lord in that game).

I know pretty much nothing about this series but think this looks like a lot of fun. Looks like the sort of comic book movie that my girlfriend will actually be able to enjoy as well

However.... I really don't like Rockets voice.
I dunno what he's supposed to sound like since I've never read the comics or seen him in anything but it would be so much funnier if he sounded like Jason Statham. He looks like he should sound fucking loud aggressive and crazy - but also be really funny. Cooper sounds too 'normal'.
