Shadow Warrior 900p on XB1, 1080p on PS4; both 60fps; coming this summer

Looks like 1080 vs 900 is going to be the norm for most titles now.

I'm happy with that, difference between 900 and 1080 is pretty damn small to me anyway.

i have fond memories of playing the original game. The demo came with PC gamer and after playing that a million times I finally got the full game. Loved the original i think I'll pick this up.

we just need a blood remake now :)

Yeah I agree. MS is going to be fine with the fact that any multiplatform they sell is going to be negatively compared to Sony for the duration of the generation. Totes fine.

What bloody choice do they have? the hardware is inferior.

Got really bored of this game very quickly on PC. Picked it up in a sale after hearing some recommendations online, it's just dull...

Fun game tried the demo didn't run well on my laptop so i will pick it up on xb1 due to superior controller(imo obviously)if I don't have my pc by the time it comes out on console. its nice to see that xb1 isn't holding ps4 back

What other choice do they have?

I think his point was simply that it's not something that MS is going to be happy with. And if you want proof of that then look at how many times that they've tried to suggest that the difference isn't that big or that they'll be changing something that will give the Xbox One a power boost.

Man, I remember when going from 640p to 720p was considered "significant" (about 200k less pixels in the screen). Now those 600k pixels from 900p to 1080p are just minor.
Heh.

I'm intertested.

The shoe's on the other foot now, so it's "ok". Last gen was another story though.

Never heard of this game.

Overused reply. DX12 will help with CPU utilization and deKinecting may help some but hardware is hardware. The XB1 getting better is PHYSICALLY impossible. The GPU is not changing anytime soon. The RAM is still the same.

Software tools can only help so much. I don't doubt games will get better on XB1 but games will also be getting better on PS4 at the same time. The gulf may always be there or maybe a little smaller but it will be there.

Gameplay is more important.
You know, i long for the day when people can stop looking at resolutions and framerates and this and that and start appreciating the games these devs are slaving over day and night for us to enjoy.

As for this game i may need to have a look at this as i enjoyed Metro Last Light immensely

Lol I remember playing the game when it looked like this

oh the memories.

Utter nonsense.

People don't harp on gameplay because good gameplay is "EXPECTED" of a game. If it has horrible gameplay it is universally panned no matter how pretty it looks. Look at Medal of Honor Warfighter. It is a very impressive looking game, currently sitting at a meta of 55. Games do not get a pass for just being good looking.

I long for the day when people stop entering threads about framerate and resolution to bitch about people focusing on framerate and resolution.

The return of the working man's resolution.

I played a bit over half of this game around Christmas and couldn't bring myself to finish it. I don't mind locked arena encounters with floods of enemies when they work well, but there's so little variety in this game, new stuff is introduced at a crawl, and health is thrown at you 24/7 even on the hardest difficulty.

Well, they do seem to be closing the gap to a degree. A lot more recent games are running at 900p on the XB1. In the first few months there were a number of 720p games. I suspect we're going to see a lot less of that going forward.

Digital Foundry just had an article that said their GPU drivers have gotten a lot better recently, as they were previously quite poor, and they're also going to free up more GPU power soon with changes to the Kinect allocations, etc.

What's 640p? You mean 480p? The difference is around 600k pixels in both cases. However, 1080p has only 44% more pixels than 900p, whereas 720p had 300% more pixels than 480p.

There are people who are bothered by that, there are people who are not. Go figure.

I long for the day when people stop coming into a thread and whine about it LOL.

Nobody is arguing over whether the game is fun, its been well received on PC, we can watch gameplay, Limp Biscuit does a great beta preview, it looks good.

The main question of this PC port is how well it has transferred to next gen consoles.

And that means FPS and resolution with respect to the main display people use for console gaming in the living room, large 1080p displays.

Speak for yourself, but I want games in 2014 on next gen consoles at full HD resolution thanks, and 60 fps if they can squeeze it, and locked if they can.

Will I enjoy the game more with good optimised code ? YES.

Yeah I agree. MS is going to be fine with the fact that any multiplatform they sell is going to be negatively compared to Sony for the duration of the generation. Totes fine.

So a reversal of what happened last gen? Didn't seem to hurt Sony much, I'm sure MS will be fine.

The real issue was and still is the value proposition compared to PS4. They need to bundle a game with the console at its lower price.

No, I didn't mean 480p, I meant 640p (1152x640). And I was talking about this, specifically:

This entails a full 720p resolution on Xbox 360 along with 2x multi-sampling anti-aliasing. PlayStation 3 on the other hand renders at a significantly lower resolution: 1152x640, with a very selective implementation of the blur-inducing quincunx anti-aliasing.

But that is old news and offtopic so I will stop here.

Great gameplay and performance are't mutually exclusive to each other.

I'm sorry but it's foolish to claim that resolutions and framerates don't matter. Sure Gameplay is very important, indeed it's number one, but graphics have driven video game evolution for 4 decades. You can't take that away and just claim we should buy stuff because they worked hard on it.

When playing those games on a 1080p tv, which most people were, the difference was immediately noticeable in the case of 640p vs 720p. I know because I played some of those games on both consoles.

But in the case of 900p vs 1080p on a 1080p tv, the difference is far less noticeable. Again, I know because I've recently played Trials Fusion on both consoles on the same 1080p tv. The closer you get to the panels native resolution the less noticeable those differences become.

If 900 vs 1080 is going to be the main difference (if they didn't have to sacrifice anything else) than I think the XB1 is gonna be ok.

Said it in another thread, but I think that it's safe to assume this from here on out (outside of a few exceptions)...

*Sports, racers, platformers, puzzle, (and indie in general) games will more than likely remain 1080p on the system.

*The action games (especially the "AAA" ones) can be any range though. If 30 FPS then expect 900p-1080p. If 60 FPS then expect 720p-900p.

man 60 fps has changed my life.

I cannot stand 30 fps games anymore with FPS drops.

I cannot imagine how I finished Mass Effect Trilogy on console.

Played this through on PC, great fun and looked great to boot.

Highly recommend it to anyone who likes fast-paced old-school FPS games.
