Is Mario... tripping?
That's his backwards trip animation, which can only be caused by items or attacks. Although, what I've always believed for situations like this is that Sakurai just puts the characters into the desired animations manually and nothing in-game actually causes it.
 
We know that eye tracking exists in the Wii U version, but are their expressions somewhat adaptive, too? Maybe it's just a backward-roll but Mario's mouth opened because he's directly going into a fully-charged Eruption.
 
If I could fill in the rest of the cast, assuming the cap was 50, I would put in...

At first I didn't use Eruption very much, but it has its uses. If you release it at the right time the super armor negates knockback, so you can use it as a get-up-in-your-face counter attack, and the unconventional hitbox means it's easier to catch people off guard with it.

I can see why it comes off as "yet another super powerful move, but worse", though
 
I want to include Snake, but having Snake, Mega, Sonic, and Pac-Man is a bit overkill. Also I'm not a big fan of Falco and if I had to choose between him and Wolf I would certainly pick Wolf. Also I'm not too crazy about Shulk but couldn't think of anyone else except for someone super obscure like Captain Syrup or Pockle. Actually scratch Shulk and put in Mallo from Pushmo.

No Ray 01 from Custom Robo? C'mon man, he was even an assist trophy and one of the few series from Nintendo with many games that has yet to get a rep. And he's a MECHA!
 
I mean, random tripping is one of the few things that Sakurai straight up deconfirmed. I wouldn't be worried.

Pretty sure Sakurai confirmed no tripping.

But if tripping did come back I would literally skip this game. Pointless.

Sakurai could've just put him in that animation for the sake of the photo. No way they will bring back random tripping.

Already confirmed to be out of the game.

If you keep getting riled up you will just start charging at people trying to bite them, while your stand post slowly breaks.

Well. Seeing that Mario already slipped on the Banana. So banana usually got tossed into the air after being slipped on. With Sakurai, he probably took a picture of the incident right after banana got out of the frame shot.
 
Did Sakurai said No Tripping? Or no Random Tripping?
For example, Tripping is still in Project M, but Random Tripping is gone,

Mario looks to me kind of like part of a hit/falling animation, or a dodge animation, but I imagine if I had the Brawl Mario tripping animation in front of me it would prove me wrong.

I'm having a hard time finding images/footage of his backwards (aka banana) trip animation. I can only find his forward (dashing) trip animation.
 
Aww I'd wished Ike would have gotten his eruption changed a bit, maybe make it more useful for edge guarding at high percents because of how the invinc frames work.

EDIT: So like if you have like 0 invinc frames at 150% you should be able to use the lingering hitbox of ike to just crush em.
 
But its been said thousands of times tripping is not returning, why would they back track on that?

Smashgaf runs on baseless assumptions and spectacular ridley gifs.

I'm not saying that random tripping is back at all. I know sakurai said it's gone. I'm just wondering WHY it looks like mario is tripping. Does Ike's attack cause people to trip? Is there a banana off frame? Is some new unkown thing causing him to trip?
 
Sakurai could've probably just posed them like this with dev tools.

Which he probably does regularly because otherwise he'd be putting hours upon hours into making scenes like this:

Would only be worth it if he were allowed to pack the transformation masks, which has been ruled out by the no transformations thing.

GAH! Maybe some strong attacks do have an additional 'tripping' property added to them.
 
I dont like that some attacks have a chance of tripping (in Brawl), make it so at certain % (i.e. below 12%, or below 22% if DI'ng down) the oponent trip.

That could work, but I'd probably replace the cap with his spin attack from ALttP, the Pegasus boots with the classic boomerang, and get rid of the quake medallion in favor of bombs. He should probably have a bow and arrow over the fire rod too, it's a more famous item.

But it would be weird to have a Link that doesn't use any of the most memorable Zelda attacks, wouldn't it? It would be like if a Mario had the flying squirrel suit instead of fireballs.
