Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

So why is the host such a bad call for this tournament ??
I never heard of the guy before so.... why?

His job is to stand on a stage and introduce shit. Geoff's fine for that. If he was on commentary we'd have issues, but instead we have D1, Prog and Scar so it works out great.

Awh, Yoshi's Story reveal would be the best really.

Also, I'm not expecting anyone to pick Sonic, Samus, Olimar, or Zelda, if I had to guess.

Why the heck is the final match on Battlefield?

I was thinking FD would be logical, but OK.

Contrary to popular belief FD is highly unbalanced in Melee and kind of unbalanced in Brawl. Players use it as a counterpick to swing the match to their favor. I am glad that they went with a more neutral and fair stage. I bet they went with FD first but most of the players suggested Battlefield instead.

This is like the oposite of what I expecte to hear lol.

LOL sorry is he from IGN or something?

People are reacting emotionally to a name that they've been given a pavlovian association with bad feelings.

So like usual people don't think he will make it and complain, ok I got that.

In the end we only have those 2 guys bringing the hype, sounds interesting :)

EDIT: that video is amazing! lol

Some characters get screwed over badly on FD.

No additional platforms means there are fewer mobility options, especially for slower and ground-oriented characters.

It is the most neutral stage in smash.

Fair enough.

I play Smash for fun, so my tournament knowledge isn't quite up there.

I'm pretty sure it's the other way around, it's only in Brawl where there was discussion to move FD to counterpick status :P

Oh, All time favorites now? This will consist mostly of Brawl stages since I've only played 64 and Brawl and I haven't played 64 since the 90s.

No order

Saffron City
Delfino Plaza
Pictochat
Halberd
Luigi's Mansion
Pokemon Stadium 2
Big Blue
Warioware
Port Town Aero Drive
Smashville
Norfair

I hope they bring back custom stages. I got addicted to making them in Brawl.

That GCN adapter is great for people who care about that. I actually pitted the classic controller to the GCN controller for Brawl, but I know I'm in the minority.

I'm way more hype that aMSa and Hbox made it in.

YISS!

HOLY~!! I have four, all perfectly working, Gamecube controllers, and zero WiiU Pro controllers, so this would be a godsend! I wonder if it can be used with other games? At the very least I'm hoping it allows for GC controllers on the Wii games that support it, but I wonder if there's a chance they will partially emulate other controllers for Wii U games... although I'm not sure if any Wii U control options are a good match.

Please don't be rude about the personal appearances of real human beings.

Apologies. I didn't mean it to be rude.

Just playing around, but sorry about that and those I offended.

Same, I meant no disrespect. All I meant was that in a lot of esports, things are attempted to emulate what they do for pro sports, like boxing, and I think it feels a bit... off? No disrespect to actual appearance from any of the competitors, just rather with how they are presented.

Milktea-I think she plays Peach in Melee (idk, she was in the documentary though)
HugS-old school player, mains Samus
Ken-the former King of Smash, mains Marth
KDJ-another top old-school player, plays Fox, Marth, and Sheik
Lilo-no idea
DJNintendo-a pretty good player known for his Bowser
Toph-I think Sheik?
Peachyhime-no idea
Hungrybox-one of the top 5 in Melee, mains Puff (and Olimar in Project M)
PewPewU-NorCal dude who mains Marth
PPMD-one of the top 5 in Melee, mains Falco and Marth
Rapture-no clue
Crismas-one of the main organizers of the Apex series, no idea on mains
MacD-Team Curse manager, plays Peach
aMSa-the Red Yoshi we all know and love
Zero-one of the top Brawl and Project M players, mains Meta Knight in Brawl (duh) and Pit in Project M

If i had to pick someone, I'd go with either Zero, PPMD, or aMSa

Just some additions/corrections here on the bolded:

Lilo: Peach, not sure if she has any other characters.
DJNintendo: Also has a Samus, Fox, and Mario (he prominently uses Fox now in tournaments, sometimes pulls out Mario/Samus for doubles or counterpicks)
Toph: Pure Fox main
Peachyhime: Peach main afaik
Hungrybox: Also dabbles with Ness in Melee (tried to use him as a counterpick to Armada's Young Link for Apex 2013 I think lol)
Rapture: Primarily known as a Brawl player, though I don't know who he mains in that game -- in Melee he seems to use Sheik, though.
Zero: He plays Melee, too and mains Fox (go figure, all top tier characters in their respective games lol).
aMSa: Also mains Lucario in Project M

Too lazy to look up matches that showcase each of the players at the moment. I might do that later.

What is your opinion about GameCube Controller Adapter so far? Any concern about input lags or so?

It's USB so it shouldn't have any input lag. I'm not worried about it -- I'm pretty hyped about it. I don't have to use a Wii U Pro controller and relearn what shit does what (and the C-Stick will be in its proper location, below the buttons). I'm happy now, for the most part. Now I have to hope the game plays well, which given who is going to be at the event we will know for sure whether the game is good for people who disliked Brawl.

Also, we'll have to work on that OT for this invitational soon... ;P

So which 4 characters do you guys think won't be picked? I'm thinking DK, Kirby, Link, and Sonic.

Little Mac
Zero Suit Samus
Bowser
Wii Fit Trainer
Marth
Mega Man
Pit
Villager
Pikachu
Mario
Link
Kirby
Samus
Rosalina and Luma
Sonic
Donkey Kong
Greninja
Olimar
Zelda
Fox

Anyone else realize that this means every single Smash Bros game can be played with a GCN controller.

...if we count the VC version of Smash Bros 64 and ignore the 3DS version of Smash 4.

Watching the documentary, and it's driving me wild that it doesn't have text below who's talking to let me know who they are. I don't know who these people are. Please tell me, please remind me, please tell me WHY I should know who they are.

Good to heard about Adapter. Hopefully people would find out more about some moves that would cause randomly tripping. I wonder if they would leave it in or not.

Oh yeah. I forget all about Invitational and Impression Thread. Yikes, I have to start to working on it soon.

My biggest complaint as well. The documentary was much better the second time watching when I had been watching tournaments long enough to know who everyone in the documentary is. Makes it far better.

All of the newcomers will most likely get picked, possibly even by executive order.
Very hard to say without playing the game which 4 won't get picked. At this point it could be anyone. Zelda, Link, Kirby, DK, who knows.
