As I said in the DS2 OT at the time, I would never trust most reviewers with a niche game like that to adequately judge how it compares in many aspects to its predecessors.
For many of them as long as it didn't shit the bed and followed through on the motions of the series, it would be enough and so rate it highly cos the others were and it attracts a devoted fanbase.
I say that as someone who did enjoy dark souls 2 btw.

Ddint play Demons but Dark Souls is an awesome game, and you'll probably can get it cheap on Steam, and run it at better fps than either Demons or Dark on consoles.
Demons is hub and stage based, Dark is more "open world" (not really open world like Skyrim, but interconnected world, kinda like a Metroidvania).

I don't necessarily agree with this, but I do agree that at some point software is going to have to be historicized and without a real infrastructure to do that aside from what seems to largely be personal collections, it's really difficult to see. Like, LJN is a company nobody wants to remember, but their history of shit games is important, especially for teaching future designers.
I hope you're right but this hasn't been the direction hardware and software manufacturers have been going. Everything in China and Korea is a closed system and the move towards mobile games is deeply problematic.
Still, this is tangential to Project Beast directly. Apologies.

For me Dark Souls has a more interesting world. I really like that they took it open world exploration in Dark Souls compared to the level structure in Demon's Souls. All three games are similar, but Dark Souls still is my favorite in the series so far. Dark Souls 2 is second then comes Demon's Souls. None of them are bad, just I prefer Dark over Demons because of the open world.

The leak looks amazing, definitely the type of thing you would use to close the E3 conference. Personally, i would have like it to not have been leaked, just to be surprised at E3, but still looks amazing and am officially hyped.

I don't get it.
I don't remember seeing this much salt for Titanfall. I mean sure people were confused and upset as to why it was exclusive, but pretty much after it was known if it weren't for MS Titanfall wouldn't have been possible, people let it go.
Now we have a "sort of" confirmation this was co-developed with SCEWS, and people are still mad. (Others hide it well, from what I can see.)
If Dark Souls 2 demonstrated anything, it's that having a strong creative direction trumps rehashing gameplay mechanics every day of the week.

2 is just frustrating in how clearly it missed the point of almost every dark souls & demon's souls convention.
Extremely tight focus, interesting and unique world building that doesn't sit behind oceans of expository dialogue a'la bioware. Interesting gameplay mechanics. Isn't insulting to player's intelligence, it is a refuge from the mountains of accessibility features and designs that make games boring and devoid of interesting player choices. unique art design.

It's a specific game for a specific type of player, but yeah, people are obsessed with it if they're into it. It has become a cult of personality particularly tied to Miyazaki as well.
They are also just really well-designed games. It's a relatively small franchise with a couple million dedicated players. All of them have a grimdark fantasy feel.
