Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

Unlockable characters on 3DS, but not on Wii U is how I'd do it. By time Smash U releases we'll know the whole roster anyway, what's the point of making people unlock them again?
I imagine there are people who don't know anything about the games. They should give the option to those who have the 3DS version to have the unlockables unlocked in the Wii U version. The unlockables that are shared at least.

There'll still probably be a lot left to reveal between E3 and when the 3DS version finally comes out, and probably more between the launches of the the 3DS and Wii U versions.

Speaking of which, you've been a good sport so although I imagined your avatar sticking until the end of the year I'm going to let you off the hook with the 3DS version.

Well, last mascot fighting game was PSABR, and that had all the characters unlocked from the get go. I know peoples reception of that game was very divisive, but from a "surprise" factor, I thought it was pretty lame that what I saw was what I got.

When I unlocked Mr. G&W as a kid, I had no idea who or what he was. I'd hate for some kids this gen to not have that same experience I did.

Marth is from the first Fire Emblem
Hero Ike is from the tenth.
And I'm looking too deep into this.
Lol, yeah, this one worked out perfectly. I actually had just Marth featured for 10 until Ike was revealed, but when Ike was revealed it worked out perfectly, conveniently. XD

That reminds me, I hope they fixed music unlocks. Getting them randomly was ok-ish for stickers because I didn't care, but I want the music. At worst, bring back the Melee lottery and work it that way. Or, hopefully, put them on the wall of unlocks (which I think some music already was).

I see you've never built yourself a music factory.

I hope music is collected the same way as before. Seeing those CD's made my heart jump.

Music/CD Factory.

Stage Builder - Conveyor belts every where. All leading to one center point where you can stand comfortably.

Items - Sand Bag only.

Characters - guys with infinities like Falco. They don't exist anymore so Mr G&W. It's his bug spray.

Beat the shrimp out of the Sand Bags as they make their way to you and just watch the cd's come flying out and get carried right over to you.

Talking about unlocks and secrets, there is one very obvious way to go. Cheat codes.

Some people want to unlock their characters.
Some people want to just have their buddies over on day one and play with character A, but hes locked and it takes awhile to unlock him.
Some people delete their save and don't like having to re-unlock everything
etc

So allow a cheat code that auto unlocks all characters. People who want to work for their unlocks get them, people who want to play character A from the beginning get to, etc etc.

Everybody wins. Is there something I'm missing? Seems so obvious.

Or maybe, those with the 3DS game can send data over to the Wii U game, thus unlocking the characters?

YouTube guy said:
Nintendo need to stop those kiddy games and focus on the hardcore gamers they need to make exclusive FPS for there console ! And turn the wiiu into the ultimate console for shooters : )

"Kiddy". Smash Bros. "Kiddy", okay.

Okay, to start a new topic for those here, what is your first match set up going to be?

I'll be heading into training with Mario vs Bowser on Battefield to practice the controls, physics and the like.

After that, I'll probably test all the stages, then begin to master Little Mac.

Classic mode (assuming it's in; I'm sure it will), random character just to try to get used to 3DS controls. Hopefully Classic mode in this game will be a bit more randomized than Brawl's.

A lot of my time on the 3DS version will be sitting at work just doing matches against the CPU, so I'll probably move straight into that once I know how to handle the controls.

Going straight into classic mode on normal, using whoever interests me that's available from the start.

I'd probably just play with all the characters I have and then start playing story mode/adventure mode if the game has one.

Heh, that is a pretty cool method. I never tried it back when I was unlocking things, but I do remember someone here mentioning it to me before.

I totally agree! Especially for characters, it would be great to have. After the first time, I don't want to unlock them any more. Would be useful at tournaments too.

The issue I was going on about before was a complaint with the unlock method for something. I want to unlock all the stuff myself the first time, but I don't want to go through the tedium of playing matches with items on and hoping music falls from the sky. Though the farming method above makes it sound not too bad.

1999-2001 must have sucked.

Gonna play through all the single player modes with Mario first, like I always do.

Edit: Or wait, no, Kirby. I usually do Kirby.

I'm curious about Olimar's Final Smash. I thought End of Day represented Pikmin really well, but the new Hocotate Bomb item makes it somewhat redundant.

The only two semi-plausible replacements I can think of are Rock Pikmin and
Plasm Wraith
, but neither of them make much sense. Purple Pikmin are stronger than Rock Pikmin, so why would the weaker of the two be relegated to a Final Smash?
Plasm Wraith
also isn't a very good idea -- Olimar being
captured
every time he grabs a Smash Ball would be odd, and
Plasm Wraith
visually encroaches on
Yellow Devil
territory anyway. It just seems dumb to me.

There are a handful of other possibilities like the sprays (forgetting the names) that power-up the Pikmin and turn the enemies to stone, something creative could be done with those. I'd honestly probably want the End of Day attack back above anything else.

Locking characters is kind of obnoxious. I want to be able to throw down with my favorite characters as soon as possible. It's also a hassle for tournaments which is why almost all fighters nowadays have the full roster available ASAP but offer other things as unlockables (like stages, colors, etc.)

tbh i dont look at it as a serious tournament. the items being available made this obvious. also doing this is the best way to see the most out of this game as possible. everyone picking similar characters would be too boring

Man I can't wait for E3. That exact day so much is going on, and it's just all gonna be a blast. I really can't wait to see the game played by actual players other than Sakurai. I can't wait for the new reveals, I can't wait for the inevitable Final Destination glory in HD and all that fun jazz.

Hey all new members,

Welcome to SmashGAF and enjoy your staying! :)

Fair point. Only issue is, I'm pretty much busy studying all the time and I'm not at home as much to actually benefit having a U just yet, which is why I love my 3DS so much, for ease of use anywhere I feel.

We'll see once the Summer break settles in. If Smash 3DS scratches my itch the way it should, I'll be settled with that.

Yeah, wait and see. I wouldn't blame you if you decided to opt out with Wii U since I'm pretty sure that you are petty busy with college courses.

I take back what I said about MK8 being boring, I should've waited until I had played races beyond 50 CC to pass judgement.
lol

I'm glad that you backtracked with your comment because 150cc is nutty but fun!

That gif screams hype.

Good :)

You gotta wonder if anything at E3 will top the hype of this moment. A tournament with pro players isn't a bad start!

Smash and new capcom fighting game being there is good enough so anything else is bonus!

Almost there SmashGAF!

ALMOST THERE! Tomorrow we will finally fall into single digit for day countdown! :)

NOOOOOO! I want to call him my pinkie! We need our tough guy that can embrace pink as it's our orange and blue!

Depend on starting character, but I'm more likely jump straight to single player contents for awhile before I get online. Hopefully I could figure out how to unlocking the characters by myself.
