Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

That gif screams hype.

I usually get the 50s 3-stars out of the way first, it's pretty boring normally but outright aggravating once you're totally used to 150cc.
Tell me I don't have to do the 50ccs to unlock anything?

I might have to recruit my niece to do those for me.

Edit: Oh yeah to be on topic, Smash Bros. though. Looking forward to playing it. Watching SKTAR at the moment...

I'm playing Brawl with these characters and so many are fucking booooooooooooooooring

I'm going to try to play:

1. veterans that were fun in brawl
2. newcomers
3. verterans that were ass in brawl and might be better in smash 4

so something like:

1. Marth
2. Pikachu
3. Kirby
4. Greninja
5. Rosalina
6. Megaman
7. Wii Fit Trainer
8. Little Mac
9. Villager
10. Fox
11. Link
12. Samus
13. DK
Why isn't Sheik playable ; _ ;

Odds that I'll be able to play 13 times between Wednesday and Saturday are slim, but here's hoping the line moves fast.

Think POTD will still be there after E3?

There'll still probably be a lot left to reveal between E3 and when the 3DS version finally comes out, and probably more between the launches of the the 3DS and Wii U versions. Once again, people need to stop assuming that this E3 will be the be-all, end-all.

Nothing's ending after E3.

The 3DS game won't be out for at least a month after E3, so PotD will still be relevant, and either way, the Wii U game won't be out until the end of the year, so I can't imagine Sakurai just dropping it after the 3DS game releases.

Nope, you can just start on 150, thank god. Lower ranks get the stars of higher ones.

I remember when some people were acting like Sakurai and company wouldn't improve from the online in Brawl.

I have high hopes after playing with the buttery smooth online of MK8.

I started with 150cc, but had my ass handed to me so hard I had to scale it back to 100cc to try and get a grip on things.

It doesn't help that tons of Sonic and All-Stars Racing: Transformed muscle memory is really screwing me up.

Let's say everyone announced is unlocked from the beginning (besides Luigi) how man unlockable newcomers are we expecting? I'd be happy with 5 more, but of course would take 1000.

Has there been a reason given as to why not every character revealed so far can be played at the tourny? Given how Nintendo is celebrating Smash's competitive scene, Sheik's exclusion is pretty weird

Hi SmashGAF! Just got my account approved lol. Just in time to join the Smash discussion before E3 happens.

Willkommen! You're here forever >=) except when E3 hits, then no one will be here when the site crashes

I can't imagine a single system, ever, where I would only play one game on it.

Even the Vita, which is my least played system of all time, has five or six games.

I wonder if we're even getting any unlockable characters at all. I hope we are... that'd be quite nice.

Thanks! :)

Kinda expecting that, since the anticipation for E3 and Smash is the strongest this year lol.

Also found it weird that a lot of revealed characters are unplayable in the tourneys (and possibly the store demos). Probably needs some refining or balancing. Still bummed not seeing amsa-controlled Yoshi as it was a joy to watch.

I'd wager that more than just Luigi is unlockable from the already revealed characters. MK7 and 8 moved away from the idea of secret characters as a whole, and that let them market with all the characters in the game which you were bound to bump into online, regardless of if you'd unlocked them yet or not.

That's even more important for a game like Smash Bros., where the playable cast actually makes a difference in your experience as a whole and with online being given a more serious take this time around. Secret characters don't stay secret for long, and they can actually give incentive to buy a game, so why not show your whole hand?

May either be not fully implemented or polished enough for showing off.

Apparently character selection was decided for maximum fun or something.

I assume the tournament uses the demo version given to us at best buy/E3 as well.

Brawl's demo also excluded a bunch of characters (for example, Wario); so I wouldn't think too much of it.

Oh ok. Thanks =) bit of a bummer about some of the exclusions, but I'm stoked that all of the newcomers are playable, at least. Can't wait to see Greninja and Rosalina in action, doesn't even matter to me who chooses them

I bought a PSP just to play Kingdom Hearts birth by sleep, I kind of regret it now.. but PSP games are cheap now so I could just buy some guys and not regret it too much.

Maybe those are the charecters that were the most balance between each other at the time the demo was done?!

God I hope they're all unlocked from the get go. I don't care for surprises since the internet will ruin it anyway lol.

I could just not go anywhere near Smash related threads but come on, I doubt I can stop myself if I know its a click away.

Personally wouldn't mind everyone being unlocked from the get-go.

They'll leak within a day anyway, and will appear somewhere so random and you'll hate yourself for accidentally seeing them.

It'd make more sense since once the 3DS game comes out, the whole roster, including secrets will already be known, so what's the point in locking them?

I actually like unlocking stuff in the games, so I would be upset to see that go (though they could always substitute unlockable characters with unlocking some other features), but I don't see much point in hiding the roster when there's such a wide gap between releases.

Unlockable characters on 3DS, but not on Wii U is how I'd do it. By time Smash U releases we'll know the whole roster anyway, what's the point of making people unlock them again?

Locking them gives people something to work towards. I would be fine if they were all revealed during release, but they should be able to be unlocked. Make them unlockable in any (nonrandom) order though. Like if I want to play as the Chorus Men, I can turn items on high so that I'll unlock them through collecting a lot of CDs faster than I would otherwise. If I don't really care about ROB, I'll unlock him at some point anyway, but it won't be a priority.

I would like it to have both versions to have unlockable characters. But with having the 3DS version first enables you to unlock those characters and by getting the Wii U version later on lets you link all the characters you unlocked to be unlocked on the Wii U version too. That way, early 3DS adopters can be rewarded in a way when getting the Wii U version later on, while those who will skip the 3DS version for the Wii U version will have lots of opportunities to explore every game modes for unlockables.

I think it'd be okay to hide a surprise or two.

But yeah I like to unlock things too. Gives me a fairly well defined goal to work towards.

That reminds me, I hope they fixed music unlocks. Getting them randomly was ok-ish for stickers because I didn't care, but I want the music. At worst, bring back the Melee lottery and work it that way. Or, hopefully, put them on the wall of unlocks (which I think some music already was).
