PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | June 2014

Watch Dogs or Infamous Second Son? Which should I play first?

Haven't played Watch_Dogs, but you'll be done in a couple of hours with Infamous. It doesn't have that long of a storyline and finishing every district 100% will only add a couple of hours more to that. You could play both Good and Evil storylines, but they don't add anything spectacular after playing either of them.

Yay new thread!

My Vita just arrived.
Really liking it.

I've already got about 12 games to play with so I should be good for awhile.

Having my new fancy Vita since Friday. Cant stop playing. Best handheld i ever had (Gameboy is on second place and PSP on third.)

Grats on your Vitas

You have a good point. I could indeed beat Infamous since it's short. Apparently it should take about 10-20 hours if I want to platinum the game, which I do love doing if the platinum requirements are decent.

Just ordered a PS4 all the way from the US. (I'm from Finland, console is 100 € more expensive here) Pretty excited! :3

Any must-haves?

A couple hours? I call bullshit.

I was just flicking through the comments of the EU PS blog regarding this month's PS+ games, and wow, there's some very annoyed people there. I kinda look at it that, just with my vita, I'm pretty happy with a PS+ sub, but wow. Even 72 games a year isn't enough for some people. It would be nice if, every time the service changes, there was an 'unsubscribe' button for people who thought it was no longer worth it, so that they could cancel the sub and not spam up the thread with moaning every single time a new thread is posted. It seems like the blog guys just see the first page of pure venom and then don't bother responding to the other comments later on.

I was going to register and make some requests on there but it just doesn't seem worth it.

According to my PS+ automatic downloads, MK just got patched. Anyone know what the patch is about? Hint of MK X maybe?

So... I am choosing between Demon Gaze, Conception II and Mind Zero for the VIta.

Any recommendations? I read some reviews but I dont trust reviews that much at all. :(

Cross out that Mind Zero and you're down to two options :^)

Haven't played Demon Gaze or Conception II, but I hear more good things about Demon Gaze.

Lol. Is Mind Zero that bad? :D Havent really seen much other than two gameplay videos and other than the english voices I thought it looked okayish.

There are some really bitter, vicious people on there.

I try my best to reason with certain people but the majority are hopeless. I really feel for the blog staff.

Mortal Kombat is on PS Vita and PS3. Which platform did you download an update for? I suggest you check your version info, and google that. If it's for Vita, it might be due to them shutting down online service soon.

I recommend Demon Gaze. Be sure to also try the Conception II demo though. The full game lets you transfer your demo save file so that you can pick up right where you left off.

Don't buy Mind Zero. There are some people in the OT who like it, but I doubt it's anywhere close to Demon Gaze in terms of quality.

I was a bit intrigued by it due to the art style, but I backed down once the game released to bad reception. I haven't played it, but some of the people in the OT didn't like it (some of course do). Heck, even the reviews on amazon jp are bad with a current score of two stars.

So far you thought it looked okayish, but at least the others are considered good games.

Ahh, should've known a couple would be interpreted as 2 hours in English, which isn't my native language. But it shouldn't take more than 5/6 hours if you did some side-activities during your storyline.

I've actually been liking Mind Zero quite a bit, but it's not a P3/P4 sort of game like you might expect. Think of it as a hardcore dungeon crawler with Persona trappings (alternately, think of it as Persona 1). It's definitely not for everyone, though.

I'm personally enjoying Mind Zero more than Conception 2, but I don't know that most people would agree with me on that. Haven't gotten to Demon Gaze yet, but that one seems to be getting the most universal praise of the three.

I personally recommend Demon Gaze. Tried the Conception II demo, bought Demon Gaze, and watched about 45 minutes of playthrough of Mind Zero so you can know where I'm coming from. Demon gaze has the best of all worlds to me, great first person grid based dungeon system, cool class system where pretty much any combination is viable, good reward loop and a totally serviceable story without too over the top fanservice. I just put 50 hours into it, and enjoyed it the whole time never felt irritated with it. Mind Zero looks to be just a bit thin in all respects, with combat being the least appealing looking aspect. In the 45 minutes I watched, combat never looked that fun or interesting. Conception II was good too, I'll probably get it at some point, but I really do heavily recommend Demon Gaze. That said, Conception II has a demo so you can always try it to be safe.

From what you said you like about Mind Zero, I do definitely recommend Demon Gaze. To me, it was similarly a good first person dungeon crawler, but the combat was leagues above Mind Zero, and the class system is fantastic.

Don't forget Apple's WWDC!
I know my heart is going to be broken by the lack of a Vita presence at Sony's E3 press conference, so I'm actually a bit more excited for WWDC. >.>"

My iPhone hasn't been the same since it took an unfortunate dive. :(

Maybe someone else has mentioned it but Battle Princess of Arcadias comes out on PSN June 17th.

This game seriously looks like an experiment someone decided to conduct on how much they could get away with charging for what is essentially a Newgrounds flash game.

If NISA charges over $20 for it it'll be too much.

Oh, don't worry about that, I already have Demon Gaze waiting on the shelf, just haven't gotten to it yet. I never miss a first person dungeon crawler (probably why I bought Mind Zero despite the bad press). If Demon Gaze ends up being the best of the three, then I'll be glad that I saved it for last.

As for Mind Zero's combat, it's actually one of the things I enjoy most about the game, but it doesn't pick up until around the end of the second dungeon/beginning of the third. Before then, you can basically just steamroll everything with regular attacks. Now I'm at the point where I'm constantly managing my three combat resources (MP, the MIND's health, LP, the character's health, and TP, which is consumed when using skills). I have to unsummon MINDs to let them recover, which leaves the human character vulnerable, so I have to make sure not to have the whole team doing that, using skills also consumes LP, which means your character might be at half health when you unsummon your MIND, etc. It's getting interesting, at least.

I can't blame anyone for being gun shy on the game, though. I still don't know if I'm willing to recommend it to anyone beyond a very specific niche.

Well, doesn't look like there's much for me to buy this month which is probably for the best.

Something about playing Borderlands 2 on Vita that makes me enjoy it way more than I did on consoles. I've been surprised how well the framerate has held up during some big fights when it struggles in Sanctuary. I'm also enjoying playing Krieg a lot more than the original four.

I'd like a Pre-Sequel Vita announcement at E3 or Gamescom or whatever but I guess we'd have to wait another two years for that...

PS3, version 1.06. Can't find anything online so it probably did just came out. Not sure why they would update this game when it's been dead for a while now. So I thought maybe they added some easter eggs that hints the new MK? I don't know.

I find this happens a lot for me with Vita, and definitely did with BL2. Been trying to figure out why, but I think to me it comes down to portability and ease of jump in/jump out. There's something so satisfying with the vita about playing a game, then if you want to do something else just hitting the power button to put it into sleep mode. Then, whether it be 10 minutes or 2 hours later, you can just swipe open the screen and get right back into where you left off. I think the ease of suspend/resume is a huge reason why I love my vita. It takes games that would normally have to be large time investments and lets you easily carve them up into bite sized pieces.

Good example is with BL2. When playing on PS3, I would always feel like I had to keep playing until I finished a quest and was back in a hub area (because saving and quitting puts you back to the last fast travel spot) or I lost progress, so there were these game defined start and end points to my play. But on vita, I can put it in sleep mode in the middle of a quest and come back later, and it is just really freeing.

updated for new multiplayer game servers.

When do they shut it down? I have it still unopened in the backlog, but I wanted to play some matches against a friend...

Just beat Persona 4 Golden. What an amazing game! I hope I didn't ruin JRPGs for myself by playing the best one first! FFX is next on the list.

Well, decided to download all the games that I bought/got via PS+ (and I don't have PS+ for a long time, so not a lot of games), because I thought that it was better to just have them backed up on my PC than to download then when I needed, since PSN downloads take a lot of time here. I'm now juggling around Gravity Rush and Uncharted: GA, and I must say that I quite liked both games.

Uncharted made me smile when I played it, for the same reason Killzone: Mercenary did: those graphics, on a handheld, goddamn. If only they didn't put all this touch bullshit on the game, and got us a better companion (seriously, I'm on the beginning of the game but I already cannot stand that guy with the turtle shoes, he is too annoying.).

Don't worry too much about that guy; after the first hour or so he gets replaced with a female companion (who is okay but not as good at past ones) and
latter on Sully comes into the play toward last 3rd of the game, and he has some of the best lines in the series here :D

You are going to love Gravity Rush; solid controls, great presentation, likeable cast and really inventive super powers :). Got half way through the game myself and it just gets better and better :D.

Yeah, I played a bit of Gravity Rush
(until she gets her room done)
and went to Uncharted. I really liked the visual aesthetics and the gameplay, very nice indeed.
