PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | June 2014

One gripe I have with Gravity Rush is the fact that there's really only a couple of moves worth doing. Gravity kick and asteroid special.

Top post. Buy Transistor all of you. Even if you can't play it right now.

Also, I miss Erika Furudo. Even though I like this avatar, she really represents me best.

is that the Asia release? do me a favor and tell me what kind of English subs it has or doesn't have? like if i can read the menus and dialogue or whatever. i don't think i ever got clarification when it released.

Yes, it's the Asia release. Everything is in english. Subtitles, voices and menus.

No love for the gravity slide?

Well, I was referring to the combat. Does that work in battle? Pretty much gravity kick and asteroid special is enough to win every battle.

If we're talking about her abilities as a whole in the free world, a lot of them are fun. Heck, just walking under the city is fun.

Yeah, you can buy and upgrade a gravity slide attack. Eventually it'll one-hit kill the weaker enemies so you can just slide by and wipe them out. Super useful in challenges.

Playasia had some stock a couple weeks back but I sold out pretty quickly.

I got it from this seller, but they jacked up the price a lot since, almost 30$ more than what I bought it for.

Yeah, that's the one I was just looking at. Eh, I can eat it, I guess. I'd rather not let it get away.

This month is jacked... trying to figure out if the Vita Pets physical release on amazon uk is a download code in a box or not, before it ships. DJ Max is getting a repress on the 6th. Found out there's an Asia English of Soul Sacrifice Delta that I'll have to snag this month. Pretty damn sure I want Blazblue, too, and I'd like to get Farm Simulator for the physical release curiosity of it, but have no way of knowing if we got an iOS game again or not. 1001 Spikes & Pixeljunk Shooter on Tuesday, and I have a feeling PJS will be a hefty filesize :/

Skipped Mind 0 last month, and never got Toukiden. Oh well... if Vita releases dry up after Shinovi Versus & Disgaea 4, for the last quarter of the year, I can catch up. I'm also thinking of actually buying the Lego Batman games, now that a 3rd one is releasing. I always turned them down for being 3DS ports, but they always seemed like they'd be fun and a trilogy wouldn't look bad on the shelf.

New thread, finally. Feels good!

For those who have a PS4 or PC here, you got to get this game. It's well worth the $20 dollars and just a blast to play. I'll probably do a review in the review thread.

I'll wait for the Vita version. Have high hopes for it after we got Child of Light.

Ha. Finally platinum'd FFX-2. Now time to move on to other games.. ^__^

Oh..and new thread. Yay!

Nice! I don't think I'll platinum X-2 on my first run. But I've heard you need to if you want the best ending.

Goddamn...

Me too...

Well, I love FFX/X-2, but I thought it would help them see we want FFXII too.

I am also hoping for FFXII.

The FFX/X-2 collection sold more than 500k in Japan alone and the Vita version was almost half of that in Japan. Even SQEX has stated that FFX/X-2 sold very well, so I don't understand how they would leave perhaps 800k - 1M worldwide sales from FFXII HD lying on the table.

On top of that, ports are cheaper, and they found great partner in Virtuous, who did a tremendous job with these ports.

Anyway, I won't give up hope on FFXII HD until TGS.

Also, am I the only one who would love to have HD ports of FFVIII and FFIX (on a single pack). And then another pack with HD ports of Crisis Core and FFVII.

I'm a dreamer. I know. :(

I wonder how they're going to get around this when KH3 releases on PS4.

I think the KH1.5 & 2.5 HD remasters are subject to the same restrictions as the games they are based on. I suppose KH3 will be licensed using modern conventions and not those ancient rules.

They have another five years before that will be a problem.

Lol, I can't believe I'm using this gif twice today.

I know my heart is going to be broken by the lack of a Vita presence at Sony's E3 press conference, so I'm actually a bit more excited for WWDC. >.>"

My iPhone hasn't been the same since it took an unfortunate dive. :(

Pretty excited for WWDC myself! I'll save my Doritos for the Sony conference though.

Just beat Persona 4 Golden. What an amazing game! I hope I didn't ruin JRPGs for myself by playing the best one first! FFX is next on the list.

I enjoyed both very much (more than 200 hours on FFX alone and more than 100 on P4G without NG+). Completely different styles. If you want more of P4G, FF might disappoint you. But if you approach both of them with an open mind, you will have a blast.

.

Just a heads up that it took a month and 1 week to get it. If money is a issue, I think it would be better to set up a stock alert on PlayAsia as their version is much cheaper.
Regarding DJ Max, that was one I got just in the right time. The Korean version was on sale on Play-Asia the last year for 50$. Got it, and it never came back on stock after that.

This is all anecdotal, but I don't think FFXII had near the mass appeal that FFX did. If you mentioned FFX, even the sportsbros in my undergrad all knew of it and liked it. But FFXII came out after the Xbox 360 had already been released, and pretty much every non enthusiast I know doesn't even know the game exists. I don't know about japan, but selling an HD remake of FFX vs FFXII in the US is a totally different monster, and I'm not sure squeenix sees it as a sure enough bet for a HD remake.

Which is unfortunate, because I loved FFXII and would be super excited about a remake. I don't need remakes of the PS1 games as much, because they are already available as PS1 classics so I can at least play them on my current systems. FFXII is the only (single player, main series) FF game I currently cannot play on either vita or PS3.

I also don't think FFXII has the same appeal as FFX, but it is somewhat close. It's total global sales were close to 6M iirc, which is about 75% of FFX sales.

But if anything, the FFX/X-2 HD collection showed that gamers are hungry for good FF games, and not only I believe having an HD version of XII would give a lot of gamers a chance to get a shot at the game for the first time, but I think it would also help SQEX fill the gap between now and FFXV, since they don't have anything announced yet between now and the release of FFXV.

About ports of the PSone games, I completely agree. I'm just a sucker for FFs and I would love to see HD graphics for those games. And now that you mention that you can already play all of those on other systems besides FFXII, that's the exact same reason Kitase mentioned when he said XII would be SQEX next port.

I believe you're right. FFXII is definitely the stepchild, undeservedly so... but god do I want it portable, til death do us part. I love that game. I figure if it does happen, it'll be PS3/PS4 and Vita will be dropped, sadly... unless Sony ponies up for it, which would be 50/50 now, and probably not even considered worth their money by 2016 or something, if Vita is even alive still.

VII & X have that "brand" appeal, in the way that 60+ year old superheros do. I finally understood it's enduring and endearing appeal to certain generations/crowds recently when I watched a few of the completionist's FFVII month videos the other day... and realized why Square has pushed Lightning so hard as a face. They're trying to make a DBZ, a Batman, a Mickey Mouse etc. VII's world and characters are it, they have it, and it should be (or have been) serialized to hell and back. I feel like crossing the universes with Dissidia is something they should do a lot more of. Build a real metaverse with an anything goes continuity and canon.

Ok guys. So I've lost my Vita charger (not the whole thing, just the cable with USB to Vita propietary stick). I'm going to order this thing. Does it work well?

Well, they did both Crisis Core (amazing on its own) and Dirge of Cerberus (decent game). So they kind of tried.

For sure, but I think they approached it with that video game publisher mentality, where any mixed reception or misses are a death rattle, rather than the way Disney would with cultivating acquired brands in every media avenue and budget tier possible, and can let limited appeal be cult appeal. It's 20/20 hindsight where everything is clear now, but the video game business wasn't really playing in that league back then.

You can find a few really nice premium collectible figures and knick knacks... but FFVII could have been TMNT, when I think about it.

If FFXII ever happens, I'm pretty confident it will be on Vita as well. The platforms I'd question would be PS3 or PS4. If SQEX goes for it, they won't just leave a Vita version on the table in their home country, where portables happen to dominate and where almost half of he sales for that series come from.

square enix will followup ffx with ffxi on vita

I'm sure some would be excited by that.

I bought a PS Vita shortly after it came out, and have enjoyed it for the most part. That said, now that I own a PS4, I absolutely love remote play. Not all games translate well, like BF4 (which requires precision and use of ALL buttons).

But I was able to sit back in bed and try out the Child of Light demo thanks to my PS Vita and have since been using remote play quite a bit. I almost don't see the need to have PS4 games ported to the PS Vita...

I understand that not everyone owns a PS Vita AND a PS4. Obviously I want the PS Vita to succeed, but I'll be honest, I'm perfectly happy using it as a companion device for remote play alone.

I never got to play XI beyond the first month of release... I'd buy it for sure, ridiculous or not.

Depending on the pricing plans, I plan to make use of PS Now when it's available, but I'd always prefer a native release of any and all games to a platform over streaming it, even if I owned a PS4. If nothing else, throwing in a game card with no wifi anywhere, is something I can count on years from now... even same for back ups of digital copies so long as I manage to preserve them on an HDD back up or a spare memory card for the forseeable future.

Well, that would make me extremely happy, so I'm not gonna shoot down your argument. Sound enough.

I'm in for that.

Never really bothered with XI and I'd be interested to see it retuned to be single-player.

I meant the MMO version, not some single-player rendition of the game's content. Vita already has a few MMOs, so it wouldn't be surprising.

Agreed. Don't get me wrong, I have my Hot Shots Golf cartridge in my Vita 24/7, love that game. I'm simply saying that if developers have to choose between making their game(s) on the PS4 or the PS Vita, I hope they choose the PS4. I say that 1) b/c of PS4 sales, and 2) because it's supposedly quite easy to get PS4 games to control/play well on the Vita via remote play, costing essentially nothing.

As for FFXII, I never actually played it, but back in college I watched my wife (GF at the time) play it for 80+ hours and it looked like a blast. I'm just not sure if I have the time for an 80+ hour game these days with my job and all.

Lol, yeah I remember that quote.

I hope Kitase is one of the guys calling the shots on this, because everything (sales, reviews, reception, port quality) shows that FFX/X-2 is the most successful HD remaster so far.

I think it might be a safe bit to say that eventually every Final Fantasy game will be on the Vita.

Had no idea quite of few of us here would be interested in the WWDC. I'll be posting in the WWDC OT when it's live.

Thanks for the link! Will be there on the OT as well. See ya there!

I've heard some bad things about this Uncharted, but at least until the part where I'm at it is quite nice, not as bad as I thought it would be.
At least the turtle boots jerk is gone for now.

All of the unnecessary Vita gimmicks annoyed me. The only one I liked was gyro aiming.

First post. Proud to be joining VitaGAF.

Just beat P4G 20 minutes ago with the true ending. It was the reason I got a Vita. Took 3/4 of a year with a playtime of about 65 hours but it was completely worth it.

Glad I got it finished so I can start Terraria when it hits plus on Tuesday. I was addicted on PC and now I can be addicted again. Just like Spelunky. PSN Name is nicholas_bowles

Nothing for me this month. Will probably pick up MonMon and wait until August for Disgaea 4 unless we get a notable/big surprise this E3.

Welcome!
Sounds like a solid plan ^-^

Just as a general PSA, while they announced PS+ titles all coming the first Tuesday of the month during the June preview, they said it will not start happening until July, so it is possible Terraria will not be free this Tuesday but instead further on in June, unfortunately. A safe bet for this Tuesday is Pixeljunk Ultimate because it is being released and one of the PS3 games because they usually start the month with a PS3 game.

I noticed on the NA PS digital store on PS3 that Hudson's Military Madness NECTARIS is still there for $9.99, and, there's still a free demo,

This is the 3D remake of the original 1989 PC-Engine/TurboGrafx-16 game that came out on XBLA, PSN and Wii Ware in 2009

I don't think you can see it on the PSN website, just browse the store on PS3.

Siliconera's hands-on: http://www.siliconera.com/2009/08/05/hands-on-military-madness-nectaris/

I can't believe it wasn't taken down. It's also 1080p on PS3.

Very fun game.

Just noticed that as well while browsing the Plus thread. Oh well. I have an enormous backlog to get through anyway.

I probably should have expected it seeing that it is idea factory and all, but it is somewhat amazing how low-rent the production value on monster monpiece.

At least the card battle system is surprisingly fun too.

'Ello VitaGAF,
Like all great decisions in life after E3 2013 I got drunk and woke up having bought a Vita. Since then it's been my main console and I've been lurking VitaGAF. Now that I have an account I'm hoping to actually have some people to play games with so add me on PSN, Renpatsu.

I also make custom cover art for VIta games in my spare time (Click to see more of my work in the cover art thread).
