I absolutely love how they're handling the relationship between Frankenstein and The Creature. In fact, the whole Frankenstein storyline has been great. It's such an interesting, and unique take on the story.

I agree. When Frankenstein was introduced I didn't expect much from the story, but the different take has made it so much more interesting. I liked Proteus and felt sympathy for him but after learning the Monster's backstory I can see the reasons for his hatred towards the doctor and he's already a more compelling character. I hope this show does Dracula justice.

I agree with the comment about how the show should be airing in the fall. Spring time doesn't suit this show at all.

Watched the first two episodes (with my mum, blimey that 2nd episode was awkward) I'm enjoying the show, but atm I don't even know whats going on.

i do agree it would make more sense to start this mid September..but right now there's nothing to compete with for attention..most shows besides Californication are done for the season but its still not quite summer so its viable.

I would fully expect showtime to milk it in october again with a full season run 3rd week of October.

Gave this a chance due to the pimping some people have been doing on the gaming side. :P This show is on the whole pretty good, but the scenes with Frankenstein are fantastic.

Yeah for me Frankenstein and his monsters have been the best part of the show so far. I love the interactions, it always seems so intense.

There's a crazy gun show at the start, then they are killing vampires, Eva has a crazy moment, and the show ends with the reanimation of a dead man. If this is bland for a show then I don't know what can be considered exciting.

I know I'm flabbergasted by some of these complaints.

About nothing? The first episode establishes that in the show's world the paranormal is real. We learn there is a serial killer in London and it isn't human. We know that the American is running from his past. You learn that Eva's character has powers, but they don't reveal all of it yet and this is purposely done. The main thread for this season is Dalton's character looking for his daughter who was taken by vampires and we learn this in the first episode. We also learn that the vampires want to bring about a huge event that will favor them.

The first episode introduces characters and for some of them it establishes what their motivations are. In the case of the American it doesn't lay out his motivations for the season, but you are given important information on his character. Green's character is mysterious, but that's her role.

That's all character development and scene setting. What's the story of the episode?

If a friend asked you what the was the pilot episode about you couldn't very well say "we learn about the characters and the city they live in". That's not the story. It's like saying that Jaws is about a small town where they need the money that tourists bring in in the summer.

Say for example Josh Hartnett's character is nearly mugged while drunk one night before he ships off and is attacked by some vampires. He's left for dead and is found by Eva Green and Dalton's characters. They nurse him back to health but he wants answers. They recruit him to go with him track down the vampires that nearly killed him. He wants answers and this is our 'in' to this world. That would be the story.

But in the pilot it's "a bunch of random, unrelated stuff happens, characters get introduced and then disappear again" with no story running through the episode.

If you were to look at it like a film script it's as if it's all first act with no follow through.

In saying that I still enjoyed the episode.

New episode today:
Season 1: episode 4 "Demimonde"

Vanessa’s infatuation with Dorian Gray continues to grow. Professor Abraham Van Helsing is hired by Sir Malcolm to work with Dr. Frankenstein to uncover a cure to the disease that might be affecting his daughter. Fenton draws his master to Sir Malcolm’s mansion.

Strange episode. It felt like there was a lot of obvious set up, with zero payoff.

And the "shocking" final scene... surely that's not the dark nature Chandler has been hiding all along.

Next to them actually showing it, it couldn't be any more obvious that Chandler is a
werewolf/wolfman

The foreshadowing has been so obvious, yeah. Which makes me believe they'll go in another direction.

The more I think about Chandler's "surprise" tonight, the more it frustrates. Are we to think the sensitivity he has shown the past few episodes is because he's
gay/bi (because that's a bit offensive), or because he's a beast himself (if this is true, reveal it already)?

What if he's a Were-GayWolf? When the moon comes out he turns into a gay werewolf? PLOT TWIST

The final scene was so great. You could feel the tension, but I wasn't sure if they'd go through with it. I'm very glad they did. But I hope this isn't just a twist for the sake of it. (ie. because of the absinth) If Chandler is bisexual or gay, then please don't just quickly sweep it under the rug.

Alternatively, the animal violence was extremely upsetting to me.

Anyone else get the impression that Billie Piper's character
will become the bride for Frankenstein's Monster?

Probably. It makes a massive amount of sense. I know people are saying they expect a few teased things to take unexpected left turns, but I'm not sure the show has given us any reason to believe that. After all, the pilot ends with the 'revelation' of Dr Frankenstein, when it was obvious from minute one.

Dorian is the swag master. Even the uber masculine rugged woman lovers can't keep their hands off this dude. Not gonna lie, If I played for that team he'd be high on my list of draft picks.

Another enjoyable episode overall. I just dig the feel of this show. Really hope they do a second season.

Dorian has some magnetism. I don't know if id jump to saying that
Chandler is gay or bi. It's been established that Dorian takes pleasure in experiencing or bedding "new things" and he either spiked the absinthe or used his weird powers to entice Chandler so that he could bang a werewolf.

good episode. Is the rule here that we spoiler speculations as well? Yeah, I feel the same as the others over here about where they are headed

Whoa that last scene was great. I expected them to do something like the flashbacks during the theatre only to be disappointed until the curve ball at the end. Must say I find myself being more interested in the little subplots going on instead of the main vampire story. I thought that Dorian was taking Chandler to an underground bare knuckle fight club the result was a lot more uncomfortable.

Billie Pipers Irish accent is sorta, kinda, terrible.

After the creature's awesome reveal and the interesting twist on the Frankenstein story, I'm disappointed because now it seems like they're just retreading the original novel now. It looked like the show was going to go in a different direction

i thought last night was pretty boring except for the Fenton / master showing up.

Dorian Gray is pretty boring (at least right now). watching a dog tear up rats was a betting sport? ok.

i knew as soon as Chandler took of with Dorian they were going to hook up. i just had to roll my eyes because of course its a cable show

Hmm, call me blind but I didn't see that last scene coming at all. I thought we might get a wolf out somewhere along the way but I didn't see the hookup coming. I'm not so sure that Chandler is really bi (it's been fairly well established that he likes women so I wouldn't call him gay) or if he's being manipulated by Dorian. Either way, for me, Chandler's story is by far the most compelling. I don't really care about any of the other characters so far.

Honestly, that was the most boring and filler episode that I've seen from what the show had to offer.

Am extremely disappoint that Van Helsing didn't play a larger role in this.

This show really does have some great acting from side characters. The old actor who helped Caliban was great.

That's Alun Armstrong, a marvellous actor who usually only gets bit parts.

Next to them actually showing it, it couldn't be any more obvious that Chandler is a
werewolf/wolfman

Absolutely. Anything else would be a big surprise.

I thought I was imagining the sexual tension, but clearly it was intended. But I don't think Chandler is supposed to be gay/bi. At least, I don't think it's going to be his defining characteristic.

Anyone else get the impression that Billie Piper's character
will become the bride for Frankenstein's Monster?

That's my belief as well. Or the actress from the theatre.

I like how they've name-checked Jack the Ripper and basically introduced the Phantom of the Opera as well.

dat ending

I was partly expecting him to transform or something. Either way dragging on his transformation is getting a bit tedious now. MAKE IT HAPPEN ALREADY PLS.
