The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt - E3 2014 Trailer - The Sword Of Destiny

I never understood why people are proud to restrict their gaming experiences to that of a single company or brand of hardware. Just because they're not on Sony's systems... I guess everyone has their reasons, but I'd never want to limit myself in such a manner. GOG, Steam, Origin, Playstation, Vita, Xbox, Wii, 3DS, even iOS... why would I ever want to "pick one" or even two. So much better to just play the games you want to play, and have that be that. At least not be proud that you limit yourself to a single brand. :)
Well, I have a PSVita (1000 + 2000), 3 3DS' (FE cobalt, Red Pokemon XL, Yoshi XL), a WiiU and PS4.

For next gen, I felt it redundant to own both a PS4 and XBoxOne. Surely the XBO will have some great games but I'd burnt out on Halo, Gears (+ the whole negative MS stuff last year, NSA/Prism - I won't be returning as a customer) and for my $, the PS4 has better specs - I want better (the best) looking/performing console games.

Edit: additional: I'd envied the PS3 catalogue last gen (never owned one).

Don't want to pay for PS+ & XBL

Edit:Edit:

I'm proud to not port beg, I've always understood exclusive games and the means to play those = buying a platform, not bitching about the platform it is on.

If CDPR ever release prior games in the series (remasters), on PS4, I'll play them.

Could this game be using in-engine pre-rendered stuff ? Y'know like ND games. Some stuff is so hard to believe in the trailer.

TW2 was pretty hard to believe when they first started showing it too.

This is what happens when developers actually design their game with PC as the primary platform. CDPR is really the only big studio left who does it. Crytek has moved on to consoles, Epic has moved on to mobile, and Blizzard/Valve are more concerned with reaching a massive potential audience than pushing the hardware envelope.

In CDPR we trust.

On one hand, that all makes sense and I identify with most of it myself. On the other hand, I wanted to play Killer Instinct, Titanfall, Halo and Forza Horizon 2. So an Xbone was added to the arsenal.

It definitely won't get used much this gen, but I'll always be glad that I have it for each new exclusive.

Well, that certainly paints a better picture to me, fair enough... I guess I'm just one of those people who enjoy nearly all types of games, so being able to have access to many different platforms is important, as some games or genres consoles will offer better overall experiences than what is on handhelds or PCs, and vice-versa x2. Cutting out a major platform entirely would severely limit my choices, but I can see how you'd find the PS4/XBox One redundant... and I guess you already had a swing at the 360 and now don't have it, and probably don't have any interest in gaming on a PC or laptop... oh well.

For me it's pretty indispensable to have a major console or two from each generation, a PC/laptop, handheld, and even a mobile device to get a good sampling of games from all genres. At some point though, liking / owning too many genres and platforms just ends up becoming overwhelming as there are always more games to play than time to play them. So in some ways, knocking a few off is beneficial, but I'd still just rather not want to play a game and not be able to, especially in the case of jumping in to a very well-liked series like The Witcher.

That gif with Geralt on the horse slashing a guy is right outside Vizima, right? The boardwalks by the lake from Witcher 1?

That looks incredibly, dare I say one of the best trailers I've seen in a long time, was that Charles Dance's voice I heard then ?

Yeh you can't get much better than CDProjekt. Indie, anti-DRM, Polish PC Devs, who own a non-DRM digital distribution service for PC.

Man, I have yet to play the Witcher 2 (tried Witcher 1 near its launch, prior to the Enhanced Edition, and it was a chore to go through the beginning. Gave up on W1 before I got to the good parts).

Any knowledgeable GAFer have a list of the translated Witcher books/novels as of June 2014, and in what order I should read them? I absolutely love the setting and themes, as a GRRM, Robert/Jordan, Brandon Sanderson and Joe Abercrombie fan. Books will not spoil me: they greatly enhance my viewing/gaming experience by seeing the written material getting a screen adaptation or game conversion.

Wow it looks so good, I like everything about it. I hope the combat is good, something similar to Dark Souls is fine. If it's like Skyrim then I'm going to have to pass.

I wish they released number of how many preorders they got already.
I preordered twice and know bunch of people who did the same.

  • The Last Wish
    (Sword of Destiny untranslated)
    The Blood of Elves
    The Time of Contempt
Baptism of Fire (out in UK now, releases in the US at the end of the month)
    (Tower of the Swallow untranslated)
    (Lady of the Lake untranslated)

If you want to also check out the untranslated ones, there are fan translations in the game forums. Sword of Destiny is a bit of a rough translation, but the others are good.

The Witcher 2 remains my favourite game by far. So many great games and yet to me none can compare to it. The more I watch this trailer the more I feel this is the first game that even comes near it, let alone take its place.

Lol, why did they pass the translation of the sword of destiny and passed directly into the blood of elves?

gog.com has a deal on the game for 47.99 (20% off) if you own witcher 1 and 2

pretty sweet, but i'm waffling on the CE..

Thanks, Jay, for the list!

Ridley, It's why I inquired: the translations seem to occur infrequently, and haphazardly. With the recent popularity of the games, I'm suprised it's taking this long for publishers to get the written material translated into English (it's already been translated into other European languages!).

Most likely because it was done around the time of Witcher 1's release and Shani and Triss aren't in the books (other then Triss occasionally being name dropped) until Blood of Elves. Lotta Ciri and Yennifer in Sword of Destiny's short stories, but they weren't relevant to the games until much later.

What ? Shani is in the books, and Triss too (see is not just name dropped- she's very important to Ciri)

Wow, that really is not the way to go to do a good translation. If I was Sapkowski I would be pissed. Not because they started translating thanks to the game, its always great to get things by any means possible so if the game helps that, is more than welcome, but translating things out of order becuase x or y character are not in the games... wtf.

He says that Jennefer as a charcter is very important in the sword of destiny, and she doesnt appear in the games yet, but triss appears in the blood of elves so they started translating that, becuase she is more important in the games.

If anyone is looking for a little background on Ciri. This is the best video I could find. The ending is a little rushed unfortunately.

Also one on Yennefer. Some game spoilers in both.

Honest question: I've never played a witcher game, but this trailer really pumped me into buying it (so insanely-epicly awesome!). How's the battle system like? I usually like fast-paced battles with tactics included. I played DarkSouls (
just 10 hrs, it killed me
) and it was too slow form me. I loved Kingdoms of Amalur battle system. Is it similar?

Storyline question. Spoilers from witcher 2.

Wait a sec. Wasn't Gerald still being chased for regicide at the end of the 2? I don't remember that being cleared up.

I need to read the novels. I hear they're not available in english? What's up with that?

Edit: they've been translated into portuguese though?! Fuck! I wonder if the translation is decent.

The first and second are completely different, and they haven't said/shown how the third will be.

Witcher 1 consists of timed mouse clicks and different stances for different enemies. Certainly not a slow methodical combat system. It's not great but it's okay.

The Witcher 2 is far more fast paced. It only requires any sort of skill above easy. So if you just want to plow through combat in that game then go right ahead. Higher difficulties will require you to drink potions before battles and use various powers and dodge a lot.

For anyone doubting the graphical prowess of the graphics, check the screenshot below:

Check out the texture quality on the back of the tent for example. It is so detailed, the parallex textures on the polygons of the tent are extremely life-like, and make a very 1:1 replica of tents, and I'm an expert in camping . The tent itself is procedural generated. Geralt's model is very well textured, with a good mixture of art and vortexs with good light shader on the skin which reflects the light of the setting realistically. The flies have unique A.I designed to make them hover around the flame, with each fly having a unique 3d model. Equally, the lighting is great, the light of the candles illuminates the tent and the colour is refracted as well, showing that there is a very competent lighting system in place. The shadowing is accurate, with sub-scatter lighting showing more accurate shadowing on Geralt's model.

For a game from 2011, it is incredibly well made and even today very competitive.
