Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

Hey is no one excited for that ABZU game from the people who made journey? It looks incredible.
I would have thought more people would be excited for that game.

ABZU and No Man's Sky seem fantastic!

Practically everything else though...just WTF sony. Didn't come here for none of that dudebro mess.

How does GAF feel about the ridiculous amounts of moneyhatting Sony is now doing? They feel worse than MS now. I cringed everytime they announced a multiplat and just had to mention some exclusive content blah blah blah they had secured.

I rolled my eyes a bit when they announced exclusive content with Destiny, despite having no interest in the game. Why would Activision or Bungie do that, let alone Sony. It's evil, stop being evil.

Not that Microsoft isn't also doing that nonsense, of course.

underwhelmed by the Sony conference. No FF15. No KH3. no TLG, no morpheus. Don't care about LBP3. Already knew about project beast, the order and uncharted 4.

FF and KH were pre-debunked by S-E unless we were getting a surprise fakeout (which woulda been great but S-E lol).

Morpheus got shown and has hands on apparently, demoing that onstage could have gotten the same response as Rachet movie since we can't see with them.

Project Beast doesn't count cause we knew it but if they didn't show it it would be endless "WTF is Project Beast?" Yeah....no.

It was much better than expected, too bad that in the second part they got lost in marketing talk and TV series for half a hour, but then it picked up again with GTAV, Batman, MGS5 and Uncharted 4.

The only missing piece was The Last Guardian :/ and a few trailers from indie games like Rime, The Witness (plus obviously FFXV and KH3 :( ).

I lament more people don't think Phantom Dust is a megaton.

between that and Kamiya, I hope we see the return of kinda-weird-but-good Xbox exclusive Japanese games, like the old days with JSRF/Panzer Dragoon Orta/Ninja Gaiden/Gunvalkyrie/Otogi/METAL WOLF CHAOS/etc

where the fuck are the Xbox emulators

I'm really glad now that stuff like the theatres is only available in the US, lol.
But at the same time I'm sad that I wasted my sleeping time for such a boring conference.

Score for Sony's Conference

10/10

The Last Guardian looked utterly amazing on PS4 and I can't wait to play it.

FFXV - I didn't think they could, but they did it. That was an incredible 30-minute gameplay demonstration that showed off how all the elements in last year's trailer come together. Mind boggling.

And how about QT's KARA PS4 huh? Huh?
Post is 10/10..
I have to add that the Fall 2014 release of GT7 was a welcomed shocker as well.

Sony fared better in the "this is what you'll see when you get this game into your console" aspect.

MS obviously didn't have the games ready to show, and while many were just CGI's or target renders, they did announce more than Sony (even if most if not all was already known).

Sony will still have the long-term upper hand for when they need big announcements, I guess. If they are not leaked that is.

No smiling allowed

There were tons of non-shooters on display

And most of them didn't look that interesting to me. I'm not the biggest fan of indies (because while there are many gems, theres also lots of crap you have to shovel through), and while stuff like No Man's Sky does look interesting, I'm skeptical about whether that stuff will really remain that interesting to me after it's actually released. It seems like one of those things that could easily lose its novelty very quickly if not handled right

I liked Microsoft better. Sony was pretty shitty actually. Uncharted looked awesome though.

Both where light on appealing content for me.2014 looks barren.

I'd give the first hour of their press conference an A+ as well as the last 10 minutes or so. The rest? Meh.

So buying an extra 30~ minutes of content is worse than keeping a game off of other systems? This is a joke post, right?

You mean FUNDING a game that would have never seen the light of day because the devs were short on money? Educate yourself rather than regurgitating stuff from other posters.

Um, did you watch MS conference? They did the exact same thing, AC, The Division, COD, Evolve, etc. What's worse is, their conference was mostly third party multiplats.

Anyone else feel really rotten after hearing about all of that EXCLUSIVE content and those EXCLUSIVE features coming ONLY to PlayStation platforms?

I'm a purely Sony gamer, but I badmouthed this kind of behavior when Microsoft was the king of it. It's still as bad, if not worse with Sony.

Agreed.

I feel like the icing on the cake was they revealed that the Legend of Dragoon HD is available for download right now.

I don't think Microsoft did enough to be able to match the PS4 in sales this fall. No matter what you think of the conferences, I don't see anyone arguing that. I don't think the price drop was enough. I bought one today but I think I am in the minority.

Damn, can I watch the conference you watched? :v

The combination of the new Playstation boss talking for what felt like 15 minutes, followed up by the comic show guy talking for another 5 minutes. Ugh.

They also showed some games that just didn't seem worthy of the E3 stage.

BUT, they also showed the most games that got me really excited today. The Order, Uncharted 4, Arkham Knight, No Man's Sky, and the GTA5 announcement. They just had the bigger moments for me. Sony gets my vote for best conference of the day.

Everything MS was destroyed for doing (TV, Money Hatting, not focusing on games), Sony did, and no one seems to see that.

I own both consoles, but there is no way I can say that Sony delivered an E3 presentation anywhere near what MS brought to the table this year.

Like Microsoft, I thought Sony had a good albeit unspectacular conference. They had some nice exclusives and showed gameplay from some big third-party games but they either didn't have a huge megaton exclusive surprise or didn't show enough of a huge exclusive (Uncharted and Bloodborne obviously aren't in gameplay state yet, so they could have had a bigger impact on me if that was the case). I'd still give them a 'B' like I did Microsoft.

So, yeah. Both had nice third-party showings, both had some interesting exclusives (Sony more, I'd say), but neither had enough gameplay to show of their exclusives and Sony's entertainment/PSN block was rough. I can't hate on either, but neither blew my mind either. Nintendo will be interesting, because I could see them being my favorite at this E3 considering the competition, but you never know with them.

I own an XBO, PS4 and Wii U, so I know there is plenty to play anyway as there are quite a few games that interest me, but I haven't had my mind blown yet at this E3, and you obviously always root for that to happen at least once.

Sony: B+ (Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, TLOUR Release date, GAF shoutout)
MS: B- (Crackdown, Phantom Dust, Sunset Overdrive)

After MS's conference I will now seriously consider letting a Microsoft console into my home. They've done well and I have lambasted them consistently in the distant past, so this is a big surprise to even me. Crackdown potential and Sunset Overdrive, along with DR 3. I think Once I see more of Quantum Break, I should decide to open up the Amazon book mark.

As for Sony.. I have a PS4, Vita and plan on getting PSTV and PS now. They've won me over a long time ago.

Good job to both, with Sony edging out MS due to my pre-hype from Project Beast, now officially known as Bloodborne.

MS gave neogaf a shout out too. just saying

I really thought both MSs and Sony's were solid, but I felt like MS just had some "that's cool" titles, why Sony really had a strong mix of excellent showings and meh.

Sony had the most interesting stuff for me. Everyone was riding that multiplat "me first" train too hard, though.

Sony: 8
MS: 7
Ubi: 6
EA: 2

EA bombed harder this year than anyone else in recent memory.

Sony's Japanese studios are dead and they are not paying third parties for development / exclusives.

I'm just going to stop hoping.

People ripped Max Payne 3 a new asshole for the non skippable cutscenes and how long they were in general. The Order is worse this regard. The writing and direction is so damn predictable.

"Main character with lantern hears spooky noises and munching, he comes across a zombie, he watches in horror as it munches away. The zombie morphs into a monster thing, OH NO, IT OVERPOWERS BULLETS. Hero struggles to fight it, and when the monster lunges at the screen, cut to black to build suspense."

This would be neat if no other horror or creepy fiction ever existed.

Sony is proud to announce that every PS4 owner gets exclusive access to the possibility to pass on the game. You don´t have to play the game and you don´t have to pay 69$. Starting today!

For the Players

Agreed. I can't tell if Shawn had a quadruple length speech or if it just felt that way. He's their worst presenter by far and spoke way too much. Hopefully he gets used to the role and improves after he gets a few more presentations under his belt.

I think it's more I can't believe they gave him the most boring and toughest part of the presentation for his first ever E3 after Jack. You give that guy one of the big reveals and maybe next year let him to do the slow part. That was a weird choice.

The list is a few posts up. Like I said, bloodblourne, No mans sky and abzu got me super hyped. At some point its just a matter of expectations versus reality.

MS left me similarly cold btw.

I liked MSFT's show but I'm only trying to figure out why some are discounting or forgetting the enormous list of indies Adam showed on stage on top of the Paradox multi game deal and all those Devolver games AND even that last exclusive Croteam nugget which looked to be exclusive.

Great conference for Sony if you cut out the 30 mins where the new head of SCEA came out. Still had the best exclusives and the more interesting multi plat demos of the show.

Outside of the slow mid section I think they had a very enjoyable conference. As a Vita owner it was a bit of a bummer to hear nothing outside of a few indies and "hey, Tales of Hearts R is still coming". Although I'm anticipating those titles its an understandable bummer that we didn't get footage of Hearts R, Gravity Rush 2 or anything else.

I am curious on how Nintendo will fare. Coming up with the games they have announced now (X, Pokemon ORAS, Smash, Zelda) there's a basis for some potential, but they'll need more to catch up with Sony or even Microsoft's conference.

And no, being "all games" doesn't make an automatic "A+++" (quality matters) and having a decent Smash character reveal doesn't do it either :P.

If you went to the Sony E3 Experience at a theater, you got a card that came with a code. That code unlocks:
  • Destiny Alpha Access on June 12th
  • Battlefield: Hardline Beta Code on June 16
  • $5 PSN Voucher
  • 30 Day Music Unlimited Trial on June 18.

Seriously, so excited. So glad I went.
So glad I got four.

at this point, I don't think Sony has to or has moneyhatted anything. LOL I think 3rd parties are DYING to get headline billing on PS4.

i'm sure there are dealings going on, but I don't think $$ (in the traditional sense) is involved.

before E3, insiders were saying 3rd partied were fighting to get a spot on Sony's E3 stage.

Um, did you watch MS conference? They did the exact same thing, AC, The Division, COD, Evolve, etc. What's worse is, their conference was mostly third party multiplats.

I'm sorry, but you clearly didn't see:

Crackdown, Fable, Halo 5 and MC Collection, Phantom Dust, Forza Horizon and Scalebound....

I was at the theater experience event and even with the few hiccups they had this is the new way to watch E3 for me.

Sony blew me wide open. Msoft I didn't even bother to watch the rerecording...I mean all I heard of that I wanted is the chief collection, but it hardly justifies a purchase until it's closer to the Halo 5 beta for me.

I'm just shocked how poorly Xbox One is doing...they need a TON of new IP's and internal studios going full speed to start doing catch up. Sony is another league right now.

If nothing else, this conference reinforced my opinion that I'm getting a PS4 for the better versions of 3rd party games, with the occasional bit of assistance from Sony exclusives.

Good deal if you ask me.

Anyone with an ounce of subjectivity would not claim one company destroyed the other company this E3. It was a complete stalemate, in terms of # of games shown and # of exclusives shown. Ultimately it all comes down to which games you prefer, but that is hardly "destroying" the competition.

100% agree. I think they both were solid.
