Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

So for the rest of 2014 we have:

Sony: LBP3, Driveclub, TLOU Remaster
MS: SO, Forza Horizon 2, Halo collection

Seems they're pretty evenly matched.

FF and KH were pre-debunked by S-E unless we were getting a surprise fakeout (which woulda been great but S-E lol).

Morpheus got shown and has hands on apparently, demoing that onstage could have gotten the same response as Rachet movie since we can't see with them.

Project Beast doesn't count cause we knew it but if they didn't show it it would be endless "WTF is Project Beast?" Yeah....no.

Not even counting the lack of FFXV and KHIII cause I'm hoping SE themselves will show it off this E3. I mean, WTF these are two tentpole Japanese, RPG titles big for SE and for Sony. It's crazy that they won't be shown at all.

Then again TLG was...handled just beautifully at Sony's conference so I don't freaking know anymore.

Where the fuck was Rime?!?!?!?!

Oh my God the first half of that conference Sony was hitting on all cylinders. And then it came to a screeching halt and limped its way to the end. Overall it had more games I'm personally itching to play than MS, but MS' show was more cohesive and flowed a lot better. I feel like Sony's show had more of a variety than Microsoft and because of that I give them the edge, but it could have been so much better. A virtual tie.

Microsoft showed a bunch of third-party games that I will play on my PS4 (and would never play on an Xbone) and a couple of exclusives that I either don't care about at all or only have a mild interest in. Their press conference didn't even come close to making me want to buy their system which they really need to do somehow. C-

Sony showed a bunch of third-party games that I will play on my PS4 and some exclusives that I am super fucking excited for. Also, Bloodborne. And I will definitely be picking up a Vita TV. A+

Ubisoft's conference had the giant, ebony goddess that is Aisha Tyler. Those legs, god damn, they go forever. Oh, and they had a decent showing of games I think. I was pretty distracted. A

EA had... concept diaries? The Mass Effect music had me all excited and then totally deflated me with the lack of information. Totally cockteased. C-

How does GAF feel about the ridiculous amounts of moneyhatting Sony is now doing? They feel worse than MS now. I cringed everytime they announced a multiplat and just had to mention some exclusive content blah blah blah they had secured.

Huh? MS had exclusive content on almost every multiplat game they showed. They both do it the same amount.

at this point, I don't think Sony has to or has moneyhatted anything. LOL I think 3rd parties are DYING to get headline billing on PS4.

i'm sure there are dealings going on, but I don't think $$ (in the traditional sense) is involved.

before E3, insiders were saying 3rd partied were fighting to get a spot on Sony's E3 stage.

oh god. smh

Um, did you watch MS conference? They did the exact same thing, AC, The Division, COD, Evolve, etc. What's worse is, their conference was mostly third party multiplats.

common man, don't say that.

Phantum Dust
Crackdown 3
Halo 5
Halo collection
Fable
Forza Horizon 2

Everything MS was destroyed for doing (TV, Money Hatting, not focusing on games), Sony did, and no one seems to see that.

I own both consoles, but there is no way I can say that Sony delivered an E3 presentation anywhere near what MS brought to the table this year.

The double standard is real, this is exactly what MS was rightly eviscerated for last year, and this year Sony gets a pass for surprising with the third sequel to Uncharted.

Not a fan of this conference. A lot of little exclusive content for third-party games, and about 30 minutes of stuff that bored me to tears.

Uncharted 4 looks remarkably good, but needed gameplay.
LittleBigPlanet 3 is going to be a great co-op pick up.

I can't really remember the other big announcements. Oh yeah, PS TV. Very cool device, but I don't think I'd use it.

Are you even reading the thread?

I'm sorry, but you clearly didn't see:

Crackdown, Fable, Halo 5 and MC Collection, Phantom Dust, Forza Horizon and Scalebound....

I did, 3 of those were CGI trailers that showed nothing and likely won't be out till late 2015 (at the earliest). So yea, I'll get hyped for those when I actually seem them, next E3.

Horizon 2 was already announced, as was Halo and Fable.

So much CGI this E3. Batman was so refreshing, but surprising because of its release date, and Sunset Overdrive, while a scripted walkthrough, had me at cover shooter. And even they are par for the course in terms of evolution in their perspective genres.

There hasn't been anything surprising. FROM showed more gameplay in the leaks than in the actual reveal, gameplay was probably Broll for press to tell us about, which makes it even worse. Nintendo is usually good about the gameplay, so I'm hoping tomorrow will only be disappointing because they will inevitably spend too much time talking about shit we already knew. Which is the theme of this years E3. This industry's a clusterfuck.

Someone counted, they both had 10.

Seriously some tinted glasses going on here.
Both conferences were alright in terms of games. Sony was boring as hell in the middle.

Just saw that list, I take back what I said.

Not as many of the games at Microsoft's left much of an impression on me I guess.

I don't like moneyhats but since the majority have ps4, it doesn't matter if sony moneyhats since they still get the game. But if it's ms, many will miss the game and is why they complain.

I rate conferences by how much they make me excited for the console. The more 'yesss/holyshit/ineedthisgame' moments I have, the better I'd rate it.

Microsoft: B-/ 70%
+ Fantastic pacing. Dance Central and Fantasia? Really dull stuff-- so what do they so? A sharp, short snippet. Cut. Move on. Everyone really should follow MS's direction for these events. (I do miss the hilarious celebrity dancers though.)
+ SO looked great. Like back to form Insomniac great.
+ AC: Unity and Witcher 3? Yes please.
+ Limbo sequel? I'm sold!
+ That presentation with the light bracelets for Ori I think? Beautiful.

- Wasn't interested in Forza Horizon, the new tracks in Forza etc
- Was definitely not interested in Halo or COD. Yay remastered games and more Halo/COD. Yay. (No thanks.)
- CGI, CGI, CGI.
- A rather underwhelming list of games shown imo. If the only one game I was going really crazy for was a multi-plat title (AC: Unity) then I'd say the conference is pretty lacking. (Honestly, I think it's just the genre of games shown that didn't appeal to me. If you're a big Halo/Forza fan then I'd say this conference is for you.)

EA: Watched until The Sims 3 and tuned out.
Judging from the reactions here, it didn't seem to be worth staying up for anyway.

Sony: B+/ 80% (Disclaimer: I unfortunately missed some parts in the beginning.)

+ Loved The Order. Might not be Gaf's kind of game but it definitely got me interested.
+ LBP3!
+ No Man's Sky looks beautiful.
+ Grim Fadango!
+ Creators of Journey!
+ Why hello there Project Beast-- I mean Bloodbourne.
+ Holy shit, Batman! Arkham Knight looked fantastic! This game just continues to impress me!
+ UC4. Sully? Older Nate? Done deal. And that subtitle. A thief's end? Give it to me, Naughty Dog.

- Awful pacing at the middle-ish part there. Just awful. That part with Shawn (?) was so dull. Like 'tapping my feet and looking at my watch and wondering why is this guy still here' dull. And they didn't really need to bring out the Marvel guy at all. Just announce POWERS and mention that it's a collaboration with Marvel comics (?) and move the fuck on.
- Didn't need a montage for TLOU/GTA5 either I feel. They're not just games people have seen. But they're games people have played too. I know, I know. Better graphics/framerates/running on the PS4 but eh, I could have done without it.
- No TLG. No TLG. NO TLG.

And now, I need sleep.
Love your post and agree to some extent. If MS kept the leaks out, I would have given it 7/10 as well. Nintendo's turn tomorrow! *goes to bed*

MS spent a whole multihour reveal on TV, Sony spent 20 minutes. Bit of a difference.

So despite that horrible middle part, pacing, and sound issues, Sony's E3 had:

Littlebigplanet 3
Uncharted 4
Infamous: Second Son DLC
The Order: 1886
TLOU Remastered
GTAV announcement
BOMBSHELL Grim Fandango remaster, PS exclusive
Incredible No Man's Sky video
Batman: Arkham Knight gameplay
PS TV coming to US
White PS4

Not sure how anyone can think this was a terrible showing....I think the TLG disappointment is clouding some people.

I was at the theater experience event and even with the few hiccups they had this is the new way to watch E3 for me.

Sony blew me wide open. Msoft I didn't even bother to watch the rerecording...I mean all I heard of that I wanted is the chief collection, but it hardly justifies a purchase until it's closer to the Halo 5 beta for me.

I'm just shocked how poorly Xbox One is doing...they need a TON of new IP's and internal studios going full speed to start doing catch up. Sony is another league right now.

How can you asses this objectively when you only watched one conference at a Sony sponsored event? MS showed plenty of exclusives. Just as many as Sony did and more for 2014 than Sony did.

The double standard is real, this is exactly what MS was rightly eviscerated for last year, and this year Sony gets a pass for surprising with the third sequel to Uncharted.

MS dedicated an entire conference to that crap. Sony doing it was horrible, and it killed the pacing completely, but their conference this year was also 30 minutes long than MS, so it balanced out. Content wise, they had they same amount of time dedicated to games, didn't they? So what's the issue?

I liked the Sony conference, not enough to buy a PS4 yet though.. and ugh that Vita part.. "over 100 games in development" Shows 3

Maybe it was because I lowered my expectations but I thought SONY had the best conference (so far)...by a decent margin. No TLG hurt but the fact that they still have a number of 1st party studios with unannounced games has be pumped for Gamescom and TGS reveals.

More than Sony? Really?

I see SO, Horizon 2, and Halo Collection, vs LBP3, DC, TLOU Remaster... seems the same amount?

My thoughts....

Nevermind the TV TV TV stuff, or the PS Now whatever. That's why I was bored out of my mind at this conference. Good for you for the people that are looking forward to the games I'm just completely writing off, though.

I know, I know, I should quit gaming or something. And I have, except for, of course, still playing the content I enjoy.

Out of curiosity, if you don't care at all about MS and nothing at Sony interests you, then what do you like? Nintendo? PC? Hardly anything? Are you like Derrick?
