Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

because they're delusional/clearly exhausted from too much gaming and think that anything that isn't TLG, Half Life 3, and Shenmue 3 is utter disappointment. I hope all three of games ARE released and end up being incredibly disappointing solely because I want to laugh at people here

So let me get this straight

You want highly anticipated games to be bad just so you can laugh at all the people who are excited about those games?

Wow.

Yeah, and Bloodborne aka Project Beast.

So updated:

Littlebigplanet 3
Uncharted 4
Infamous: Second Son DLC
Bloodborne (formerly Project Beast)
The Order: 1886
TLOU Remastered
GTAV announcement
BOMBSHELL Grim Fandango remaster, PS exclusive
Incredible No Man's Sky video
Batman: Arkham Knight gameplay
Mortal Kombat X gameplay reveal
PS TV coming to US
White PS4

The white PS4 is probably going to make me buy a second one. Looked really good.

couldnt watch the conference unfortunately but ive caught up with the announcements. seems on par with microsoft, honestly. i cant give the edge to either. both parties are very solid in their exclusive lineup. certainly not the resounding victory like last year.

Abzu dissapointed me from what I've seen
Couldn't care about the Order
Uncharted trailer came at a bad time
LBP3 is a cool, nothing big for me though
Dead Island 2 is blech for me
Arkham Knight Trailer was great
Actually somewhat unimpressed by MGS V trailer, even preferred last ear's more
Bloodbourne was great
No Man's Sky was cool
Somewhat interested in TLOU
Grim Fandago was AMAZING
Let It Die felt somewhat generic and un-Suda
Don't care for Battlefield
MKX was good
R&C was good, got drowned out though

Overall was a decent/solid without the slog in the middle'Less than Microsoft in my opinion though. Sony disappointed me

Why are some so concerned with the pacing and other minutiae of these conferences? This shit isn't performance art, they're media briefings. Sure, they have larger audiences with streaming and such now but the vast majority of people will get the info disseminated to them via media outlets.

At the end of the day, these things are primarily about plugging new games/features of the consoles and there was a metric shit ton of interesting stuff in the 4 conferences today.

Since i have the feeling that Sunset Overdrive, Dead Rising 3 and Crackdown are basically the same game - some dude/s run around and hack/shoot everything to shit just for the lolz - (in my not quite knowledgable opinion) i think Sony had way more wowing moments. Of course Sony had their own stupid splattergame in Dead Island 2 and the way too long TV part ruined the overall impression, but still it showed more of the gaming i like.

(stole the following list:

Destiny trailer - 6
White PS4 - 7
The Order trailer - 8.5
Entwined - 5
Infamous DLC - 8
Little Big Planet 3 - 8
Bloodbourne - 10
Far Cry 4 - 8
Dead Island 2 - 5
Battlefield: Hardline - 5
Magicka 2 - 7
Grim Fandango - 10
Let It Die - 7
Abzu - 9
No Man's Sky - 10
PS VITA TV - 8
Mortal Kombat X - 7
Ratchet & Clank Remaster of 1st R&C game - 10
The Last of Us Remaster - 9
MGSV - 9
GTA V - 9
Batman - 11
Uncharted 4 - 9

Overall i´m pleased with E3 so far. Many games are coming out. When people say 2014 looks barren they should adjust their glasses. Looking forward i don´t know how to get the money for alle the games coming out Sep.-Dec.

Well, it's just the truth. They did a piss poor job of convincing me to buy their system and that is a big part of what E3 is. Showing me a bunch of inferior versions of games that I would rather play on a better system just does not impress me. That's just pure honesty. I want Microsoft to sell me on the Xbone. I love buying systems and building a collection of games for them (my X360 collection is pretty damned big). They've unfortunately been unable to convince me to do that so far.

In terms of actual stuff I care about, Sony delivered in spades. Agreed with everyone else though, the middle part of Sony's conference just dragged. All that crap should have been at the start, and still much shorter, to clear the rest of the show for games. Powers didn't need ten fucking minutes of stage time, misc. F2P games didn't need fifteen minutes - including a fucking montage - without a single worthwhile announcement, and Shawn didn't need to ground the conference to a fucking halt with allusions to things that didn't pay off at all. I don't know what Sony were thinking there.

In terms of excitement, though, Sony still wins - no question. Microsoft's biggest item were four games I already own. LBP3 is more interesting, and its the least interesting thing Sony showed.

Microsoft: C+
Sony: B

I look at it as a 19th century Dead Space. Which sounds pretty damn cool if you think of it that way. Unless you hate Dead Space.

That trailer looked so far removed from Dead Space, that I just can't see the connection at all. I've only played the first Dead Space, but it definitely was much more action oriented and less "movie-esque", if you know what I mean. The comparison the other poster made to QD's content seems fairly apt, from what we saw.

I'd say MS and Sony are tied.

MS had games from start to finish but very little surprises.
Sony had a lot of genuine surprises that no one saw coming, but that TV stuff in the middle was a bore. It was this year's wonderbook.

So what happened to the Project Beast gameplay? What were those vines from?

I dont know why so many devs go for cgi trailers, the 15 seconds of project beast looked 100x better than the actual trailer

Sony really fucked up by talking about that Powers TV show for so long...

I literally fell a sleep here. I love videogames, E3 is like my 2nd Christmas (at least it used to be) and this year, I was underwhelmed to the point of getting knocked out. My brother woke me up when he noticed me passed out.

They did an announcement and reveal before the show started. For the 20 minutes that app on the PS4 worked, I saw the pre conference stream and they announced Tetris Anniversary for Vita and the coop Killzone stuff (DLC for shadowfall soon and then standalone a month or two out from there).
Yeah, I saw the minimal pre-e3 reveal with one video interview of gameplay. I expected something more from the conference itself, especially for a launch title and Sony's flagship FPS. One that could use some more eyes looking at it.

So despite that horrible middle part, pacing, and sound issues, Sony's E3 had:

Littlebigplanet 3
Uncharted 4
Infamous: Second Son DLC
The Order: 1886
TLOU Remastered
GTAV announcement
BOMBSHELL Grim Fandango remaster, PS exclusive
Incredible No Man's Sky video
Batman: Arkham Knight gameplay
PS TV coming to US
White PS4

Not sure how anyone can think this was a terrible showing....I think the TLG disappointment is clouding some people.

Exacto. They had a pretty great confrence imo. I'm enjoying this year's E3 quit a bit. Even EA had Star Wars, DA:I and Mass Effect to show for.

Uncharted wasn't CGI dude. We've actually seen Bloodbourne gameplay via that leaked WebMs.

I'm talking strictly the conference. I'm not counting the leak. Also, i'm pretty damn sure Uncharted was CGI.

Edit: Just so it doesn't get quoted into oblivion, yes, seems i'm a fool and missed the message at the beginning of the trailer. I will eat my crow

It just occurred to me that while I was happy seeing anything from the new Uncharted, it does seem surprising to me we didn't get just a few seconds of gameplay action.

Let's be fair -- I don't think anyone really thought Sony's E3 lineup was going to be as barren as it actually is. All the predictions were way way way beyond what they actually showed. Even The Order was a mega-brief gameplay demo that barely had any gameplay.

Yeah, a year ago all the talk was "20 PS4 exclusives in the first year".

Everyone already knows this.

Fantastic show by Sony, obliterated the MS conference that was basically a total bust after all the twitter blabber the last few months.

Everybody doesn't know it. Well, anyone tuning into an E3 stream may know it but it's still goodwill and incentive for new purchasers. Also while I think Sony had the better show by a whole letter grade I don't think the MS showing was weak at all. They officially said they were going to show nothing but games; mission accomplished. Anything beyond that was outside forces hyping it up and no company is going to go on social media and say "Plz turn down the hype!".

I'd say MS and Sony are tied.

MS had games from start to finish but very little surprises.
Sony had a lot of genuine surprises that no one saw coming, but that TV stuff in the middle was a bore. It was this year's wonderbook.

Leaks should not damage the contents of a presentation IMO.

Sony won this for me.

Project Beast/Bloodborne alone beat out almost everything Xbox got. And I'm not even a Soul guy.

Coupled with all the early beta, Uncharted 4, the reveal of GTAV, Mortal Ko bat, all those indies, Batman and Metal Gear not to mention Dead Island 2!That was awesome.

So despite the terrible middle part. Though they did announced PS TV, white PS4, and the Ratchet movie. It has its silver lining.

The only thing Microsoft got me excited for was Sunset Overdrive. Halo isn't doing it for me anymore. Halo 5 look great though. Almost everything Microsoft did was leaked, nothing new.

Sony 8.5 out of 10
Microsoft 7.5 out of 10
Ubisoft 8 out of 10
EA 6 out of 10

If its non-interactive whats the difference?

I'd say the difference is kinda that it's Naughty Dog. It doesn't really matter, with them that may as well have been one of the quiet walking around interactive sections we're glimpsing with those graphics since it's going to look the same all the time with ND.

Late to comment, but THATS how you do a damn E3 conference!

I need to get a PS4 before this month is over lol. Also LBP3 fully backwards compatible with stages? Hell yeah! No Man Sky was amazing, and everything was just great all around. Not a dull moment...aside from the programming.

I just cannot get over the people in this thread saying Sony somehow TROUNCED MS or vice versa. I mean, did we watch the same fucking conferences. Sony's conference was boring as fuck, and MS's conference was full of CG with nothing to show. Both announced about the same number of games. I'd understand if certain people tilt a certain way due to certain games appealing to them, but anybody rating MS a 9 and Sony a 6 or rating Sony an A and MS a D is clearly devoid of any shred of objectivity. It's so painfully obvious who are fanboys in this thread. Both conferences were roughly equally dissapointing.

Sorry, but after seeing that Uncharted 4 clip I don't think that's ever going to happen...
Lets wait until we see Halo 5. 343 did amazing things with Halo 4 visually. I think it's the best looking console game of last gen. I really wanna see what they do with the Xbox One.

That being said obviously the PS4 is just flat out more powerful so it's likely that games (at least multiplats that is) will always look slightly better on PS4.

So what happened to the Project Beast gameplay? What were those vines from?

I dont know why so many devs go for cgi trailers, the 15 seconds of project beast looked 100x better than the actual trailer

Because when you show gameplay, then when things change during development and say, for example, the lighting quality is degraded in the final game, people flip their shit ala Dark Souls 2.

If it's one of your biggest (and only) titles for the fall I think you have to show it. I would have happily taken more Drive Club over half the time they used for the LBP3 demo.

I know I'm going to at least try the DC demo. LBP3, perfect for my kids and maybe the core 3 friend I have on PSN.

It just occurred to me that while I was happy seeing anything from the new Uncharted, it does seem surprising to me we didn't get just a few seconds of gameplay action.

Yeah, a year ago all the talk was "20 PS4 exclusives in the first year". Whelp, maybe if you include some bad indie games.

This is my issue. I did not buy my PS4 to play indie games. I know I may be in the minority, but indies to me are not system sellers for the most part.

I think people were expecting things to be a lot bigger than they actually were. This being the E3 right after a console launch people hyped them selves up to the point they couldn't get down and were thus disappointed. Though everybody should know the real big games don't come out till 2-3 even 5 years after the consoles have launched when people are building engines on architecture that isn't changing all the time and they have solid footing to go crazy. Considering the games shown, I was pretty blown away...even the GTA V upgrade was impressive. Either it's the younger generation that's self entitled or the 30-35 folks that are becoming old and senial way early but the games I grew up on in the 90's make everything out now pretty much look amazing.

I just wanted more games. I know what I like and I didn't see that at the conferences. At least in the PS2 era I could choose between widely different genres. Now it's sequels, remasters and CGI trailers, all within the same basic genres and templates.

If I'm going to spend $400 on a box I need like five killer games. I don't see either hitting that until 2015, maybe.

That stealth edit. Where the part about "bad indie games??"

Sony basically did laps around everyone else's conference today. It's a shame they sucked the win with the parts with the new SCEA guy and that tv dude.

What i really liked...

1. unannounced beta/alpha launching during e3. Already gotten into BFh
2. No man Sky - GOTS
3. GTAV coming to to PS4. Day one.
4. Far cry 4 tech that lets you play coop without having the game on PS4. Just insane...
5. Vita TV coming to NA... about time.
6. I forget the name but its like journey but underwater. Look so cool.

What i hated:

Same as everyone else. The PSN guy and movie/tv junk. Why are they wastin my PS+ money on stupid tv shows.... YUCK! This alone wreck the conference. Went from a 9/10 to a 7/10. Guess it could be worse, at least it not wonder book.

E3 day one verdict: I only have a PS4 at this point and i really see no reason to get anything else in the near future. MS really had the most to prove and the best they did was CGI trailers of game that are years off. I love MS pacing of their show but they just didnt have the games they needed. MS just didnt have any megaton. Leaks of huge megaton that didnt happen really hurt them IMO.

Sony wins E3 IMO. I really see nothing that will change the PS4 out selling everything.

Yeah, I saw the minimal pre-e3 reveal with one video interview of gameplay. I expected something more from the conference itself, especially for a launch title and Sony's flagship FPS. One that could use some more eyes looking at it.

That and more driveclub would have been nice...I mean we got a trailer for Infamous Second Son DLC (super excited for that), so you think Killzone DLC would get a showing as its Sony's only FPS exclusive. And Driveclub since it launches in a few months. Trim up that section on sharing and Powers and you could have fit trailers for both in.

If someone heavily edits the Sony presentation to just gameplay footage, it would be awesome. Such a huge variety of game styles.

We're really getting to see what second generation software PS4 games look like, and they're looking great. Destiny continues to look stunning. I've never been overly fond of the Batman games, but even I was impressed by Arkam Knight. Entwined looked lovely. When they said "If you use your Playstation app you can download the game now" I though, hey, I might as well. The future is here. Been waiting for GTAV to get a PS4 release. Looked swish as fuck.

No Man's Sky wowed me like nothing else this E3. If it was from a AAA studio I'd have been impressed, but THAT coming from a small indie studio is mind blowing.

Bloodborne trailer didn't really do much for me, but I'm well past caring about pre-rendered trailers. But still, confirmation of the game was all I was after. They could have just put up a slide that said "New Souls game by FROM SOFTWARE" and I'd have been popping boners for days.

I found gallows humour in the fact that Bravia TVs got more mentions than the Vita. Poor little dude.
