Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

They showed plenty, you might not like what was shown but they did show alot.

Define a lot. They showed mostly multiplatform games that have exclusive incidental tat, exclusive games they showed last year that are still 6-12 months away and a load of indie titles.

Microsoft showed a lot more exclusive titles that are coming this year.

He flat-out stated that his division scans the net, especially significant GAMING FORUMS
before launching into those letters.

He knew full-well as to what he was doing.

Extremely disappointed in his section. A stark contrast to his brilliant display last year.

I'm sure his division did. Where do you think they got the idea for Grim Fandango?

Is this true? Sauce?
Is what true? The dates or the reasoning for the delay?

If the latter, it was said somewhere in an interview that was the case, but obviously they're spending their time on more than just tweaking those things. I have a feeling it would've been in a releasable state, but yeah... with this extra time, they'll be polishing the hell out of it (and not just tweaking the online/UI stuff).

I'm really surprised that there are negative responses to Sony's conference. I was expecting a weak conference based on insider reports but they knocked it out of the park. Would have liked some Uncharted gameplay, that's the only complaint.

When I saw the Naughty Dog logo I prayed so hard to see an Orange Bandicoot. Oh well, overall I feel Xbox did better in terms of exclusives. (I actually dozed off twice during the PS conference. PS Conference: Now here is concept art for TV series based on a comic nobody knows about! umm no thanks)

Well it got me to pre-order a white PS4 so I say it was good enough

B+, would have been an A if that dude didnt ruined the momentum by talking about TV for 20 minutes

I watched it with a friend. We were more excited about stuff Sony showed than Microsoft.

We were practically giddy when Batman and Uncharted 4 came on.

I do feel like Sony appealed to ALOT more people with their selections than Microsoft did.

The 4 games that caught my interest for Microsoft was Scalebound, Phantom Dust, Fable Legends and Sunset Overdrive.

But unless one of those ended up being godly. It won't justify me buying an Xbone. Halo doesn't do it for me anymore. I know its a matter on taste. But Sony truly offered more diverse titles. Those indies look great, and the segment about PS+ and Powers. I think people seem to forgot that they talked a lot about amazing things coming. The content was great, but the delivery was terrible. Should have been 10 mins. Not 30 mins.

Overall I think Sony won, just because they got to announce GTA V, Uncharted 4 (let be real, that's bigger than Phantom Dust, only extreme gamers know about PD), they got to show off Batman gameplay as well. DAT white Ps4 was godly. Not to mention Far Cry 4 (friend play for free feature)

Microsoft do get +1 for AC Unity though. Look wonderful, renewed my interest in the franchise.

I think Sony ended up having a much bigger wow factor than Microsoft did. The leaks really killed Microsoft wow factor. So despite the TV stuff slow down. Sony ended up going out with a bang with their 4 biggest things. (Metal Gear, GTAV, Batman and Uncharted 4)

PS: I'm guessing some gamers aren't big comic book fan. But that POWERS announcement was amazing to me. Being a fan and all. I think it really got lost between the TV stuff. Its a shame. Though now I'm really looking forward to getting free episodes.

Yeah alot of stuff did not leak for Sony which was surprising.

It's actually a really well known comic if you follow comics.

Just watched replay of Sony conference. Very average meh conference just like MS. Too much talking.

Japanese devs were the highlight of E3 so far. And that is without any FF news.

Pros

-Bloodborne
-Phantom Pain (best trailer of E3 and it was leaked before the day even started lol)
-Scalebound
-Phantom Dust
-Witcher 3
-Indies

Cons

-The thing pissed me off the most was the ridiculous amount of FPS shooters. The industry just has to spam them. Just WTF..Destiny, Halo, COD, BF, Rainbow Six, Evolve. It was just disgusting. Wish more rpg games were made instead with those resources.

-EA's conference was just bad. They should be stripped of their hour next year. If you don't have anything to show than don't show it. No need to show dev diaries at E3. You can do that on any other monday of the year.

Overall very mediocre E3. I give it 5/10. Hopefully next year is better.

I'm underwhelmed by both MS' and Sony's conferences this year. I guess it's the year of the remaster/reboot which is a bit annoying. Definitely some interesting stuff in both but nothing too exciting... although I guess the rampant leaks this year my have dulled that. Overall they're roughly equal for me with perhaps a slight edge in Sony's favor due to Bloodborne.

The most interesting thing for me was the Farcry 4 feature that lets you invite friends. That sounds pretty cool.... although to be honest I could never get into Farcry 3 so I probably won't take advantage of the feature.

2015 looks like it's going to be a big year though.

Fair enough I was legitimately curious.

Vita is dead man.

The fact that they changed the name of PSV TV to PS TV spoke volumes to me. I've been a Vita adopter since release. Really made me disenfranchised.

My theory has been that Sony was perfectly happy with the Vita carving out a small niche and getting indies and half-assed ports. This further solidified it.

If Sony really cares about the Vita, they would have some sort of 30min-1hr purely vita conference and just talk about it, some games for it, and its future, if the PS4 just took too much time out of their E3 conference. But they won't ever do such a thing.

I had saved up $100 to spend frivolously on video games. Had to decide between a 64GB mem card and a 3DS. Went for the 64GB mem card. No regrets, but still. Disheartened.

Isn't it weird that PS Vita seemingly has it's own PS Now games? At the show, and in this IGN article they seem to imply just that. I always thought PS Now games would be playable on any platform with the service. Perhaps I'm reading it wrong?

Rank: B+/A-

Pros:
Tons of games
Beginning was hype
Sony definitely listened to fans and their thoughts
Trailers were dope
Third-party on board
Indies on board
R&C Movie
GTA V saves from competitor on PS4
Games shown at other conferences looked better at this one
Surprise game! Woo!
Cons:
Presentation was horrible all-around
Powers was cool, but it's not for E3
You can't beat Jack, especially with a guy who doesn't represent the "face" of Sony... really bland guy
Hype started in the beginning rather than spread out
Tried to copy last years "applaud" by hiring stand-ins to clap at some times... Youtube really?
Unintentionally hinted at things that didn't come into fruition
Vita TV bundle was an absolute joke
Too much time spent on stupid shit in general
Mics sucked

Overall, most here are disappointed because they hyped up stuff that just wasn't plausible, period. Anyone saying this conference sucked or was "the worst" were due to most of y'alls own accords. Sony's conference was beyond solid, but many little things brought it down in the grand scheme of things.

I think this has to be the most accurate and fair assessment of Sony's conference. You hit it right on the nose.

My personal thoughts on the Sony conference

Pros

-Finally finding out what the Destiny exclusive content will be

-Entwined looking awesomely intriguing, being affordable, and available now

-Infamous Second Son DLC making my nether regions stir

-Sequel to one of my favorite franchises, Little Big Planet, with new characters

-That Far Cry 4 demo man. Wing Suits. Crossbow machine guns. Grappling Hooks. Elephant stampedes. The greatest way to have a friend demo the game without needing to own it

-Grim mother effing Fandango

-Indie love

-Magicka 2 making me smile. Loved the original (GIVE ME HELLDIVERS ALREADY)

-Let it Die surprise

-Bloodborne being friggin awesome

-Azbu

-NO MAN'S SKY

-Gratuitous amounts of Free 2 Play games

-I'm finally going to be able to get a Vita...scratch that, Playstation TV!

Cons

-Technical hiccups

-Order 1886 being underwhelming

-Dead Island 2 once more being CG only

-Shawn "Yawn" Layden boring me to TEARS. I would actually have preferred the smug jackass Don Mattrick over him

-Brian Michael Bendis wasting A FOREVER AMOUNT OF TIME on a TV show and then not even showing a damn trailer

-Seriously. Did Sony take 20 minutes of their show straight out of the Microsoft 2013 handbook?

-Uncharted 4 looking STUNNING but being so short it might as well have been absent

-Why a spoiler filled trailer for Last of Us? Was it needed?

-Where was Drive Club? Isn't that coming out in like, October?

Even worse, during the E3 theater postgame with Geoff. He starts up by slowly walking by a Crash Poster in Naughty Dogs HQ, it was such a tease!

Lol really? Must have been torture for those who saw that poster. So that Bandicoot sign during that one Sony ad meant nothing? An its not like Activision is doing anything but sitting on the IP, you know what at this point I would like to see Crash with any other dev.

Pretty disappointing overall and just as bad as Microsoft's.If it wasn't for Bloodborn this would have been a complete disaster. It also dragged way too long when it could have been way shorter. At least half of that conference holded zero appeal to me.
Oh and fuck exclusive dlc,i hated it when MS was doing it last gen and i hate it now that Sony does it.Better spend the money to actually fund development for 3rd party IPs that wouldn't have been funded any other way.Timed exclusives especially are pointless.

Anyway all my hopes for an actual interesting conference are uppon Nintendo now. Please don't disappoint me Iwata! :(
All i need is ZeldaU and X.

The lack of big 2014 titles shown was disappointing but 2015 looks crazy for PS4 with Uncharted 4 taking the lead. Why didn't they have Driveclub demoed though? Seemed like a missed PR opportunity with the launch just a few months away.

You put Uncharted 4 in a con column and I can't take you seriously.

  • The Last Guardian - Please understand. :(
  • Sales figures - Waiting for NPD?
  • Deep Down - Huh?
  • SquareEnix - lol?
  • Vib Ribbon - Fucking cock-tease!
  • Project Morpheus - Why bring it up if you're not going to talk about it?
  • TV content - Are you sure you don't have more TV exclusives to talk about?

You put Uncharted 4 in a con column and I can't take you seriously.

They showed some footage rendered in engine, it was so dark you couldn't really tell anything other than the high detailed face of Nate. It was barely a teaser trailer and you think that should be in the Pro column?

The only reason I bought PS4 was for Uncharted and even I think it should be in Con column.

6/10 for me, very bad pacing, very boring.

Enjoyed the MS a little bit more, 7/10.

Both consoles could be a great buy but both conferences just reinforced my decision to go PC for the moment (PC, WiiU, 3DS and PS3).

If I had to choose between the two it would be a tough call.

XB1
- Halo Collection is a great idea for those that missed on Halo, I just played the 1st one on PC. That would be 3 great new experiences.
- Sunset Overdrive from what I have seen looks pretty cool.
- Don´t know what to make out of the Platinum game yet.
- Forza Horizon 2 looks good.
- Released: Titanfall and Forza 5 are games I am interested in.
- Inside looks amazing
- Good 3rd party support. I don´t mind the lack of parity
- Have not played GTA 5 yet. Would also get Tombraider and Wolfenstein.

PS4
- TLOU remastered, have not played this one yet but I have a PS3. This loses in terms of value to the Halo Collection IMO.
- Driveclub looks good but I am not interested.
- Bloodborne/Uncharted 4/The Order 1886 looks great but too far off
- Not interested in anything else exclusive, everything worthwhile seems to be too far off
- Good 3rd party support and has the edge
- Have not played GTA 5 yet. Would also get Tombraider and Wolfenstein.

IMO MS had the better conference. Sony's conference was pretty weak in the exclusives and relied on multiplatormers like Batman, Destiny to deliver the show, whereas Microsoft's didn't and relied on their own content. MS seemed to have more exclusives like Crackdown 3, Forza Horizon 2, Fable Legends, Cuphead, famed Kamika's new game, Killer Instinct season 2, Halo 5 beta, Inside, Ori, Scalebound, Happy Wars, Project Spark and not to mention QB and Gears of War were not even there. It was also really boring when Sony started talking about Playstation TV and spent far much time on Powers and discussing Destiny content, like wow big deal when MS kept going from project after project. I don't really care for LBP and remasters. I guess it's all subjective though.

Wha.... no way man Sony killed it

Yeah, it was rough. It was the first time after the show that I felt like cheering, because I thought some secret bombs were about to be dropped...instead Geoff just casually stands in front of it and talks UC4. Giraffe cock tease

I think the game you were looking for is Spore.

I think Spore is almost a better comparison. They are being so unclear with what the limits of the procedural generation are it will almost certainly disappointing when we see where the boundaries lie.

I still think it looks great though.

Ya spore is a better example. Still looks cool if they at least get the space stuff down. I'm just afraid of being burned.

Well I watched it at the movie theater screening. First thing I thought of when it ended: "... There were a lot of Sony first party studios missing" followed by "2015 is going to be fucking crazy."

There even more "Where was _____?" this year than I felt there was last year.

shots fired at Microsoft about bundling kinect then they go on to talk about t.v and movies.. argh....
I wasn't much of an xbox fan but after sony presentation i see no reason to pick up a ps4. everything of interest is either multiplatform or eventually coming to xbox.
