Final Fantasy Type-0 HD coming to PS4/Xbox One (no Vita), Agito coming too (iOS/And)

The cheaper solution for this game was 30-40 bucks, then it was supposed to be 100-150, then it became 399. That's the main reason of concern, a mild upscaling isn't worth the investment seeing as neither platform shows any future with Japanese role playing games.

I would say the "incredible outpouring of fan support" largely came from the global community since Japanese role playing games already got their Type-0 in 2011.

And if you're saying that global enthusiasts of Japanese role playing games are not going to buy a new console (I'm confused by your post, but did you factor the price of the console into the price of the game?? Don't do that, that's annoying.) because Japan is heavily into portable game production, maybe so, but Final Fantasy XV and KH3 are a big factor for these new platforms and neither game is anywhere near done. Japan's output is light, but if you want Square Enix games, there never was and unfortunately probably never will be a reason to buy a Vita; get a 3DS and a PS4/XBONE and an iPad and let it go.

It's too bad Sony's "PSP Remaster" program never worked out (and never came to Vita,) it lived and died with Monster Hunter Portable 3 but this game and plenty of other cool PSP games could have benefitted from just that simple upres recompiling that that PSP Remaster engine (BTW, was it an engine or a program?) Too late now, it seems.

Entitlement? Seriously? The platform has gotten generally shit on since day one, and the main push for this game in the west came from the #sonyJRPG side of things. Add the fact that not only did it get announced for Vita, it then got taken away. There is a strong fanbase on the system that buys a ton of games (attach rates are insane) and this was the ONE game that people had been begging for since the launch of the system.

So if we're a bit salty, I think it's justified.

it's time to let go.

I'm so out of the loop for everything FF related...

Type-0 is now FFXV aka Versus XIII? I'm very confused.

Final Fantasy Type-0 is many things, but it is not the game formerly known as Versus XIII. It was announced alongside Versus XIII in the Fabula Nova Crystalis series of Final Fantasy game as Agito Final Fantasy XIII for mobile phones. Development then shifted to PSP and eventually the game was renamed Final Fantasy Type-0. Square Enix reused the game's assets for Final Fantasy Agito, a different mobile game that takes place in Type-0's universe. Type-0 (the PSP game) is now getting redone for PS4 and Xbox One.

The daily struggle of the Vita owner.

Nobody else has one.
The games are amazing.
Companies don't even want you to have one.

Well said! Most of my friends that want handhelds got 3DS, since "Vita doesn't have many games on it..." They are mainly western-game fans (and well, things like Pokemon/Zelda).

Well, I'm glad to see this coming to PS4/XBone...but no Vita? That's odd. And the teasing we got which was a typo...heh. Maybe things will change. Jobs are on the line apparently or just more lies. But hey, I get to play it on the PS4.

If this is more along the lines of a remake as some other posters and even the low-res screen grab suggest then maybe I can see why it wouldn't make it way to Vita.

You know what, I'm gonna fire up Demon Souls and just die a few
many
times and hope I'll forget this thread even existed. See you later thread.

So if this releases next year (lol) is this SQEX's way of appeasing FF fans because FFXV could still be 2+ years away? o_O

ONLY two years away? Dude, FFXV will come out AT least by 2017-2018 (or my guess, the game will be moved to PS5...only to be pushed back again on THAT....)...

I do agree though, this (alongside the most likely release of FFXII: International Edition) will be Square's 'attempt' to appease the FF fan base until FFXV is finished.

....Its a bit hard to be positive about them, when all they do is disappoint people (....man, the whole deal with the Vita version of FF Type-0 is just really messed up...can't believe Square can be THAT cruel to its fan-base X(), but that is my bet.

I'm happy. :)

I'd much rather a game retooled for current gen consoles than an upscaled vita port. I play at home, anyway, so remote play is absolutely an option for me when I want to play the game.

If I want to play it on a handheld, there's always the translation route available. It's a pretty cheap game right now (25-40 bucks), and CFW is easy.

The entitlement from the Vita hardcore is astonishing.
You mean those guys who kept bugging Square to port the game? Yeah. Fuck those whiners.

Somebody would have to check the tally, but I would bet a good portion if not majority of the petitioners were just bugging Square for the game in general. Vita was a factor because Vita was the logical destination, but if it really was just Vita owners demanding Type-0, I don't think we would be here in this thread talking about this remastering, on any platform.

But yeah, "entitlement" is a little rough. There's reason to have expected it on Vita if anything (and Sony didn't do hearts any good by blowing the announcement.) Plus, if they're going to be ripping open the code for a port, even with a nice asset step-up it seems like their work could remain within Vita (or PS3/360, for that matter... otherwise, Lightning Returns is probably the end of the line there) if the engine/middleware supported the platform.

This is the same company that promised, year after year, that FFXIII was exclusive to the PS3, and tricked legions of fans into paying $600 for a machine back in 2006 only for it to go multi-plat in 2009.
Buying any console for a game that hasn't been released is dumb as hell. People who did that and were butthurt about the decision can blame no one but themselves.

This is the same company that showed off FFXIII Versus back in 2006 and eight years later we don't even have a release date in sight.
They've apologized for that and the problems they had post-2006 have been pretty well documented, so there's a reason for all of that. Plus they couldn't really know how much trouble they would run into with XIII & XIV and how shitty PS3's hardware would be for developers. Hindsight is cool, but they were probably originally planning FFVsXIII would've been a 2010-2011 release.

This is the same company that took 3 years to do a PS2 port from 2001.
This is just plain out wrong. Such a thing does not exist.

This is the same company that made not one, but TWO sequels no one asked for, to a game no one liked.
Square Enix has just been trying to jump on the quick-sequel train that Sony, Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, Nintendo etc. have been for 1-2 decades. The kind of business model where they create massive new worlds for every FF and completely original IPs without a single sequel to any of those is simply unsustainable in today's market. XIII-2 had to be made after they spent so long with XIII, Lightning Returns was made since they left XIII-2 in a cliffhanger and FFVsXIII was moved to next gen at that point (it would've been even a bigger fuck you to gamers to end a game in a cliffhanger and never follow up on it), so they knew FFXV would not be released in a few more years and they needed something they could make pretty quickly to fill in empty slots in their release calendar (you don't release JRPGs of FFXV's scope during the launch period or too soon after that, there's just not enough potential market there).

This is the same company that showed up at the PS4 reveal and their presentation was "please be excited."
They showed a tech demo and followed that with FFXV & KHIII announcements a few months later. Not really sure what's the problem here, other than hating on Square Enix for no logical butthurt-reason

What the hell is wrong with square? The more vocal about this game are Vita owners. Fine, put it on the next gen consoles but don't be such an asshole and say that you did it because of the requests by the west and not put it on Vita.

Do you take pleasure on pissing off your audience? What a horrible company, it's good that your finances show how poorly run SE is.
Release a game on a platform that is pretty much dead or release it on two that will probably have combined sales of 25+ million by the time this is released? I don't really know where you are getting that the most vocal fans are just Vita owners. Most of those people probably have at least some interest in either PS4 or Xbone (if they don't already have one). The Vita install base is pathetically small, it doesn't make much sense to release a console-level FF on it. 3DS would've been ok, but Vita is already both feet in its grave. The indies are slowing its burial, but it's gonna happen sooner rather than later.

Glad the games coming west. I own a ps4 but as a vita owner yea its pretty shitty. It makes me really wonder why I even own it. Lucky danganronpa is coming out later this year but man its not even like owning a wii u because the first party support is no where near the level as the wii u. I think the vita will slowly bleed out until its dead. Until one day people ask, "Vita? you mean that ps4 streaming controller?"

So since this HD remaster has been announced, what are the chances of the original PSP game being localized for digital download at least? There's a chance, right?

Yeah, that console-level Playstation Portable game.

Just what we were missing. You defending every decision SE comes up with. Can't you let fans be disappointed for once?

He has a point though: why release a big HD remaster for a very unstable platform when you can reach a gigantic audience? It's just smart business (even though it should be ported to Vita as well).

The hell? Ok. Lets see if I can clear this up even if E3 hype is still fresh in mah body. It's making me not think straight ;) FF Type-0 and FFXV are two different games. FFXV use to be named FF ver. XIII. Type-0 use to be called FF XIII Type-0, I think. Both games, long with FF XIII Lightening games, are apart of something called Fabula Nova Cyrstalis. These games share a common theme/myth regarding crystals and deities.
