For the sake of posterity: the art direction of this game is sublime.

Gotta find some way of recording those streams. The gifs, they must be made.

People thinking this has nothing to do with the first Xenoblade: The end of the story trailer has a Nopon in it. It's in the same universe as Xenoblade. There's obviously going to be something to tie it together.

That X=Cross thing makes me wonder:
is it possible that the original universe WASN'T obliterated, that either it was just Earth (akin to Xenosaga) or that a new, divergent universe was created from that experiment? They were talking about Earth as I recall so that implies that unless they just named the planet the same thing afterall that we're seeing a sort of cross over going on.

I think Xenoblade made it pretty clear that the Earth as well as the whole original universe was entirely recreated. Still it's funny to see the United States in this game, unless this is actually a fictional and completely different United States and the name is just shared. But if not, I guess the new world is like a mix of the original universe + Xenoblade universe.

I hope Alvis appears.

The link in the post above you:

The night to day change scene when the mist goes away and the sun shines forth and the camera pans over the environment and the animals living in it. The music there made me feel soooooooo good. I love it!!

Thanks gonna check it out again later.

I'm conflicted about creating your own character and that being the "main character" for the story. I'm not a huge fan of silent protagonists in general because it makes the dialogue rather awkward sometimes. It's a nice touch for some customization, but having a silent character is kind of a bummer, imo.

customizable doesn't necessarily mean silent. Just look at Guild wars 2

There's also that Social thing in new footage here, in the start menu and some popups which hopefully someone will get to translating. 2nd Trailer still had smaller possible hints with Player 1,2,3,4. Just think they aren't ready to talk about it yet.

got a screenshot?
Sadly I missed that part.

I'm starting to get a bad vibe from that game. Graphics look nice but to me it's starting to look less like a fantasy RPG(which Xenoblade was) and more like a Mech game. I'm not crazy about Mech games. I like them ok but not as much as fantasy RPGs. I'm still confident this thing will turn out pretty good. I'm just a little disappointed by the change in direction they took.

Not surprising. XBC for the wii had some beautiful areas. I was amazed at what they did and how big the zones were for a wii game. They rivaled some 360/ps3 games in terms of openness.
I'm pretty sure Xenoblade has just as good if not better draw distances than most ps3/360 games. When you walk into the Magna forest (or whatever it's called, the forest the Nopons live in) at night and see the tree they live in off in the distance all lit up... Gorgeous.

Hopefully people who think there's a downgrade watch the Nintendo Treehouse or IGN presentation, it's the same environment we got in the first trailer and saw plenty of in the second. I do agree that the character models are a disappointment, I wish they had spent some time working on them after Xenoblade, but it's pretty clear that the graphics are the same.

I'm excited for this game dont get me wrong but my big concern here is that the game is "create a character" for lack of a better term and I worry the game will has a less compelling story because your character could be "anyone" still Mass Effect pulled it off....

What? There's been no such thing. It's always been a sci-fi JRPG.

I don't really need this game to be a looker. It might sound like low standards or bargaining, maybe, but there are other titles that I want to be stunning to look at. Witcher 3, new batman, and to list a Wii U title: the new Zelda. It's not like Xenoblade or most of the Xenosaga's were exceptionally pretty (3 finally found some balance in the art style.) I just need the game to improve the primary combat mechanics, which class change and range/location mechanics will hopefully address. Other than that, I just want it to maintain the great sense of scale that Xenoblade had, maintain the intricate level of "secondary" (non-combat) gameplay such as customization, progression, exploration. That's really the meat and potatoes of Xenoblade right there, in my mind. If it also manages to have a great soundtrack, that's another thing to look forward to. I'm kind of unconcerned about the story. Of course, I hope it's engaging and well written, but it's the aspect I'm not too concerned about.

If it hits most of those points, I will be satisfied.

This looked gorgeous in the Treehouse segment. Really looking forward to playing it!
I hope the soundtrack is as beautiful as Xenoblade chronicles.

I didn't need more mecha in the game, that's for sure. It feels like Nintendo got aware of the positive reception of including mecha on the last trailer and just went nuts with it.

It's a Takahashi game, he goes nuts for mecha all on his own.

You do realize who Tetsuya Takahashi is and the kind of games he makes, right?

Just got done replaying the game-play segment of the Nintendo stream. I had my doubts earlier regarding what direction they were going. But, that segment put all my doubts to bed. Game looks great and I for one really liked the Xenoblade (Wii) battle system. Glad to see it's back with some improvements.

Never played Xenogears/Xenosaga? o-o; As everyone is saying, this IS what Takahashi is all about. Even Blade has its fair share even though you never got to pilot them with the Mechon.

Every Xeno game has mechas.

Also in how many games can you fly a mecha in an open world? And especially in a JRPG?

Holy Shit!

Beyond the Logos Artificial Destiny Emancipator

Lol this is definitely a Takahashi game. And a true Xeno game!
The Tanaka designs look amazing and I'm hopeful for characters I can feel something for, because that was about the only thing missing from Xenoblade.

I'm glad we won't be forced to play as Shulk. The whole customized character as a major player in the story is something I'd like to see more of in games.

The soundtrack is amazing too. I wonder if it would be possible for a Mitsuda + Joanne Hogg collaboration for an opening/ending theme?

I hope the voice work is done in North America this time. The English VA for Xenoblade is great but I'd really like for the localization team to bring back some of the voice actors from the Xenosaga series in prominent roles. I'd love to hear some of those familiar voices like Richard Epcar, Crispin Freeman, Lia Sargent and the others again.

One last thought: Xenoblade Chronicles X is really cumbersome and doesn't really hit you the way the previous titles did. Everybody's just gonna shorten it to Xenoblade or X anyway, so they really should have come up with something simpler.

The wait is gonna be hard, but this game is looking great!

For all the game's apparent strengths, the title is incredibly weak. The 'chronicles' subtitle on the original was bad enough, but this sounds like a HD remaster. The Xeno-noun format is not difficult to mess up. Xenognosis, Xenocross, Xenogenesis, Xenokati - all would have sounded better than what we got.

Beaten, partially.

Yeah, like xenoblade, that's probably how your main character regards the other npcs in your party. There was a pretty extensive almost dating sim in Xenoblade that you could do that strengthened your relationship with each member.

I highly doubt there will be any sort of online in this game at all.

Dude, don't worry about the story.
The story will be lengthy, and it will be batshit insane. And it will be awesome.

Crono Trigger has a silent Protag. Didn't stop it from having a great story.
Plenty of RPGs have silent protagonists. The story is told through the supporting cast as you play along. It works out just fine.

I've been thinking about what Nintendo was warning about, the chasing of maxing out graphics leading to unsustainability and less risk taking. I've concluded to myself that the content of games is the most important thing, the impression the game makes while playing and enjoying it, and after the game is done, how was the experience. People can nitpick about WiiU's hardware power but Mario Kart 8 was gorgeous as I played it. Its soundtrack was amazing, the levels were like amusement park rides! And no antialiasing? Didn't affect my impression that the game was gorgeous.) Graphics is one part of the package we call the "content" of a game, but the overall impression of a game is made up of more than that. We pay for the content that gifted creators make for us, and are at the mercy of what those creators choose to make. So when I take a step back and ask "Am I impressed by so and so a game?" (Xenoblade, for instance, on the Wii) I say "Yep!" and want more content like that game, and however necessary for it to be made, I don't care, so long as it's made. My impression of Xenoblade's appearance was an impression of delight, I did not worry about textures and AA and other stuff, I just took in what the creators prepared for me and concluded that I was delighted by it ;-)

I'm... conflicted about the "create your main character" thing. It feels generic. If said character is fully voiced, I may be OK with it if they manage to make the character interesting (like in Mass Effect), but otherwise I'm a little wary that said character may be not only a silent protagonist (something which is not necessarily a bad thing, we have countless counter-examples of interesting silent protagonists), but also a bland one (that would be bad).

I kinda hope that there will be a multiplayer option, though I'm fine either way.

Eh, I feel different about that. I liked not having previously heard or been familiar with any of the voices/voice actors in Xenoblade and I thought they sounded great. I guess it would depend on who they cast.

I just hope 8-4 LTD doesn't touch this game. I'd like Treehouse to localize the game themselves or have the same group that did Xenoblade do this game.

If thats in reply to the pic, I dont understand JP but that looks more like a achievement thing to me at first glance lol.

I think how much online is the question, not that if there is or isn't since the first trailer with the chat logs and the job postings for network programmers.

Considered the storied past that Xenoblade had, I don't think you're going to have all that.

Did you miss the part where there were mechs in the very first reveal of the game?

The game takes place in the United States in Neo Los Angeles, I think it would be weird if every character had a British voice. The other games didn't matter since they didn't have a real world area. :/

Just no Johnny Yong Bosch or Vic Mignogna.

Man, this is so Tetsuya Takahashi that I can't help but get excited. I'm expecting a story on the level of Xenogears.
